CROSSlines

A fascination with information systems was what first drew Benjamin Aranda and Christopher Lasch together when they were sharing a finals studio at Columbia University’s Grad- uate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. Today, their digitally driven firm, Aranda/Lasch, has a New York studio, headed by Aranda, and a second studio in Tucson, where Lasch is based. Still committed to their original interest in modularity even as their work grows in scale, the duo seem to have reached a kind of critical mass: Their very first building, a retail venue in Miami’s Design District, is slated for comple- tion in the spring, and they’re in the midst of designing an outdoor theater in Libreville, Gabon. In addition, their work has been exhibited at New York’s Museum of Arts and De- sign and Beijing’s Gallery All, and their collaboration with artist Matthew Ritchie continues with a suite of sculptures and public seating.
