encorespotlight.com 11 5 Shows You Didn’t Know Are Based on the Same Story Many of our favorite and beloved stories are based on the play Parfumerie, including She Loves Me. The narrative of feuding acquaintances that don’t know they’re in love has seen many iterations over the years. Whether or not you’re familiar with this classic Broadway gem, we bet you know at least one of these other versions with a similar storyline.

1937 - Parfumerie 1940 - The Shop Around the Corner 1949 - In the Good Old A play by Miklós László, Parfumerie Produced by MGM, The Shop Around the Corner Summertime takes place in a Budapest gift shop starred Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart, and Nine years later, MGM produced and follows the personal relationships Frank Morgan. While the film still took place in another version of Parfumerie – this among the store’s employees and Budapest, this time the two central characters time as a technicolor musical film customers, as well as the relationship worked at a leathergoods shop. The film has been complete with six songs. 1998 - You’ve Got Mail Perhaps the most familiar adaptation of this story comes from Nora Ephron’s 1998 film You’ve Got Mail, which starred Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. This movie saw the plotline reimagined for a technologically savvy generation, choosing to have the anonymous relationship develop via e-mail 1963 - She Loves Me messages and online chatting between two competing bookstore owners in In 1963 the Broadway musical She Loves Me debuted, which reverted the story back to a modern-day New York.
