    INTRODUCTION Having picked this book off the shelf, you’re probably asking yourself, “How could there be a neuroscience of zombies?” While yes, zombies do have brains (you have to destroy their brains in order “kill” them, or so the myth goes), we would be hard pressed to make a case that “zombie neuroscience” qualifies as its own field of study. Neuroscience— the study of the brain, particularly its relationship to behavior and cognition—already has its fair share of perhaps silly and fantastical “specialty” subfields; why add to the list? Well, did you know that we neuroscientists have the answer to every thing? Regular readers of the Opinion page of the New York Times or other popular media outlets will already know that neuroscience can explain why you are in love with your iPhone, why lying to your kids about Santa is a neurologically sound form of parenting, and why inducing a coma leads to proof of heaven. You see, by filtering all of human existence through our very muddy lens we can answer all of life’s questions. By our estimates, an fMRI study explaining the meaning of life should be coming out by sometime early 2015 (hint: it involves 42 brain regions). We hate to break it to our colleagues in the fields of philosophy, religion, and physics, but thanks to a few fancy brain imaging machines and a couple of decades of pretty hard think- ing about stuff, we neuroscientists now can understand every- thing, so they’ll probably need to seek employment elsewhere. If neuroscience is the panacea and explanation for everything else, why not the zombie apocalypse? There’s a market for that, right?     International Studies Perspectives (2017) 18, 211–224 Laughing off a Zombie Apocalypse: The Value of Comedic and Satirical Narratives1 RODGER A. PAYNE University of Louisville In recent years, many international relations scholars have been discussing films, books, and television programs featuring zombies, largely because such narratives are thought to provide a compelling metaphor for thinking about a diverse array of contemporary threats. These range from relatively traditional threats posed by violent terrorists to nontraditional threats from epidemics or mass migration. However, because zombie narratives are gen- erally apocalyptic, employing them can provide a misleading and dangerous understanding of international security. By contrast, satirical and comedic zombie stories provide interesting alternative narratives that coincide with the emancipatory objectives of critical security studies. Satirical narratives fo- cusing on elites characteristically critique these powerful figures, often re- vealing them to be self-centered buffoons. Indeed, satire and black comedy can be quite subversive, reflecting critical and potentially transformative notions—about threats andotherdimensionsofsecurity politics. Comedies typically center upon ordinary people, emphasize their regular lives, and end happily—aligning with the aspirations of the human security agenda. I consider various forms of migration in films produced in Ireland to interrogate how identity and the nation are presented. Considering forms of migration opens a different approach to the films that enables questioning of the myths of the nation-state within globalized capital and culture. In Ireland, the land has given shape to the physical boundaries of imagined identity; land is understood as a material trace denoting a linear history of invasion, conquest, and ultimately independence – an evolution from colonial oppression to postcolonial identity.

Loving wife Shelly and her best friend Carrie are horrified when Bill devours a man in “like 10 seconds.” His new fast food diet leaves behind no trace of a victim. While disgusting, the hunger is manageable and lucrative until Bill accidentally infects Carrie. Shelly's brother Charlie concludes the virus is a government conspiracy so together they concoct a crazy plan to protect the family, stop the Men in Black from beheading Bill and save the world from a Zombie Apocalypse.
