Press Release Winter 2020 Press Realease Winter 2020 PRESS RELEASE WINTER 2020 PRESS REALEASE WINTER 2020 DISRUPTION: PISTE PERFORMANCE THAT’S OUT OF THIS WORLD This winter, K2 Skis is launching a whole new ski line for the speed freaks of this world. The Disruption collection brings together intergalactic tech with K2’s revolutionary edge — because skiing isn’t about winning races it’s about having fun. Penzberg, 13 January 2020 – It was 50 years ago that man first set foot on the moon. Setting sail towards the unknown took a big dose of curiosity, a lot of bravery and the best technology and materials available on the planet. It took grit and determination, and a belief in what you’re undertaking; that’s what’s called for when you’re redefining boundaries or going beyond them. Forging your own path and disrupting everything that you previously held true. But what does the moon landing have to do with skiing? Well, with its Disruption line, the latest skis to be launched by K2, the US iconoclasts are taking a brave new step away from their freeriding comfortzone and into the world of piste performance – bringing their high-end ski technology with them of course. With its Disruption line, K2 is disrupting the status quo of piste and race skis to bring something new. The new piste performance line from K2 is inspired by the feel of pulling Gs, mashing on that downhill edge, turn after turn, lap after lap. Precise performance, sparking arcs – not for FIS points, not to win races – but because skiing is about having fun. Not every day is a powder day. So why think of the powder-free ones as off-days? Piste fans, freeriders, whatever your flavor, we hope you like skiing fast, because these rocket ships are primed and ready to send it to the friggin‘ moon. If you’re not fast, you’re last. This is a full rethink of what piste performance means. Full disruption. For its Disruption line, the K2 design team worked together with both current and washed-up racers alike to craft the best skis for real piste conditions. And because it’s K2, the bar is set pretty high when it comes to the tech spec and fun factor. “No question, any day out skiing is an awesome day. The new K2 Disruption skis are so much fun to ride on the groomers. The edge contact is unbeatable, they’re stable and have a turn radius that’s insanely variable. Perfect for high-speed first-chair firm or the afternoon chop and dodging people through cut up snow”, says American former ski racer and K2 athlete Warner Nickerson (38) about the new collection’s top features. On 13 - 15 January 2020 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen the one and only “NO-HOLDS BARRED SKI RACE WITH THE WORLD’S RADDEST” took place. Media representatives and K2 partners from the trade had the chance to peek under the hood of the new Disruption models and get a taste of how they perform on the piste. Videos and pictures are available for download at www.k2skis.com/media-kit-eu The full Disruption line is available from autumn 2020. A small range of Disruption models is on sale at select retailers from February 2020. Please contact us for more information on retailer and media tests. High modulus carbon and polymeric dampers are strategically placed over the edges of the ski. DMD reduces vibrations and chatter along the edge and offers drastically improved edge contact for a smoother, more planted arc in hard and rough snow. The new I-Beam technology is used to generate stability and precision through the entire turn – either Carbon I-Beam or Titanal I-Beam, depending on the model. Both provide enhanced stability, precision and energy transfer along the whole length of the ski. PowerWall technology makes the transmission of energy from skier to ski edge direct and precise thanks to laminated sidewalls that extend into the heart of the ski. DISRUPTION MEN’S MODELS WINTER 2020 DISRUPTION MTi DISRUPTION STi With a longer turning radius, Titanal For precise, edge-high knifing on firm snow, I-Beam and Dark Matter Damping look no further than the D-STi. The sheer passion of this unique international community of progressive, original women has redefined the way women are perceived both on and off the groomers. Winter 2020 sees new Disruption Alliance additions to the women’s portfolio in the form of the D-MTi Alliance und D-SC Alliance. Tough tech – women who rip need a ski to match. Inspiration for the design of the women’s 2020 models was taken from feedback via the K2 Women’s Alliance of course. That’s how ski stars Amie Engerbretson and McKenna Peterson put their heads together to come up with the styling of the new Disruption models. “The design and look of the skis are strong, modern and powerful – just like the skis themselves. Feminine yet edgy too”, says Amie Engerbretson, describing the new styling, which in all-black, military and neon colors is a far cry from pretty pink flowers. The rollout of Elastic Suite signifies a major upgrade to K2 Sports’ wholesale ecommerce capabilities whose retailers can now virtually access K2 Sports’ multiple product lines via the latest digital merchandising technology resulting in a more strategic, streamlined and sustainable wholesale purchasing process. “Elastic Suite is paving the way to quickly becoming known as the standard B2B ecommerce solution among brands and retailers; the addition of K2 Sports is indicative of this growing trend,” said Josh Reddin, EVP of Elastic Suite. “To connect our industry-leading virtual wholesale merchandising technology with such an iconic and historic brand as K2 is an opportunity we greatly appreciate. Consumers within this category are athletic, ambitious, and active. Both K2 Sports and K2 Skis both fall into this category of consumer products, however, K2 Skis’ specific manufactured skis are the secondary demand in this case. The skis that it produces are in a marketplace that is demanded by skiers of all abilities. The specific target market that I am seeking to reach through my advertising campaign is female skiers ages 20 – 34 (young adults) who live in Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, Montana, Utah and Colorado. The main demographics that I am specifying in this campaign are sex (females), age (20-34), and household type (nonfamily). I selected this target market because females are continuing to emerge as athletes with increased interest and participation. This provides an expanding market that is also young and single, allowing them to spend disposable income on personal recreational goods. Relevant behavioral variables in this case include purchase occasion and benefits sought. Since skiing is a seasonal sport, the purchase of skis is dependent on the weather and geographical environment in relation to the season. Clearly skis will be more highly sought during the winter and are an essential purchase as part of the sport. Skiers in this target audience are going to be seeking a high-quality product at an affordable price, which also contributes to the enhancement or preservation of their status on the mountain.
