A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains,

Below: In the valley above Trigrad (PC). As with all Honeyguide holidays, part of the price of the holiday was put towards local conservation work. The conservation contributions from this holiday raised £700, namely £40 per person topped up by Gift Aid through the Honeyguide Wildlife Charitable Trust. Honeyguide is committed to supporting the protection of Lilium rhodopaeum. The Rhodope lily is a scarce endemic flower of the Western Rhodopes, found on just a handful of sites in Bulgaria and just over the border in Greece, about half of which have no protection. Money raised in 2014 was enough to fund Honeyguide leader Vlado Trifonov, who is recognised as the leading authority on the Rhodope lily, for monitoring and mowing for two years at the location visited by Honeyguiders. That includes this year (2015). That work is likely to continue for some years, but other conservation needs in the future are uncertain.

Journal of Entomological Society of Iran 33, 9-17. Thermal disinfestation of stored grains by solar energy Shams Fawki1*, Walid Aboelsoud2, Ahmed El Baz2 1 Department of Entomology, Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, Abbasia 11566, Cairo, Egypt. 2 Department of Mechanical Power Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Abbasia, 11517, Cairo, Egypt. *Corresponding author: [email protected] DOI 10.5073/jka.2018.463.093 Abstract Chemical control especially fumigants is the most commonly used method to control stored-grain pests. A safer alternative for disinfestation is by heating up grains to a temperature of 50-60 °C. However, this alternative consumes high thermal energy due to the relatively high temperature required to achieve the required goal. Using solar energy as heat source for low temperature applications has become a viable mean for heating applications. Heating of grains using solar energy requires special design of grain storage system as well as development of efficient heat transfer mechanism to increase grain temperature over a limited period of time. The main objective of the current study is to use thermal disinfestation as a non-chemical, safe control method for grain management. A heating system based on solar energy has been developed as heat generator to control stored-grain insects. The target temperature range is 50-60 °C, which is enough to kill most of stored-grain insects.

Abstract The Ibero–Balearic collection of Meloidae Gyllenhal, 1810 (Coleoptera, Tenebrionoidea) of the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona.— A commented catalogue of the Ibero-Balearic collection of Meloidae Gyllenhal, 1810 housed in the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Bar- celona is presented. The studied material consists of 2,129 specimens belonging to 49 of 64 species from the Iberian peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The temporal coverage of the collection extends from the last decades of the nineteenth century to the present time. Revision, documentation, and computerization of the material have been made, resulting in 963 collection records (June 2014). For each lot, the catalogue includes the register number, geographical data, collection date, collector or origin of the collection, and number of specimens. Information about taxonomy and distribution of the species is also given. Chorological novelties are provided, extending the distribution areas for most species. The importance of the collection for the knowledge of the Ibero–Balearic fauna of Meloidae is discussed, particularly concerning the area of Catalonia (northeastern Iberian peninsula) as it accounts for 60% of the records. Some rare or particularly interesting species in the collection are highlighted, as are those requiring protection measures in Spain and Catalonia.

Status of UK priority species: relative abundance Technical background document, 2020 NB this paper should be read together with 4b Status of UK Priority Species; distribution which presents a companion statistic based on time series on frequency of occurrence (distribution) of priority species. 1. Introduction The adjustments to the UK biodiversity indicators set as a result of the adoption of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity (including the Aichi Targets) at the 10th Conference of Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity mean there is a need to report progress against Aichi Target 12: Target 12: By 2020 the extinction of known threatened species has been prevented and their conservation status, particularly of those most in decline, has been improved and sustained. Previously, the UK biodiversity indicator for threatened species used lead partner status assessments on the status of priority species from 3-yearly UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UK BAP) reporting rounds. As a result of the devolution of biodiversity strategies to the UK's 4 nations, there is no longer reporting at the UK level of the status of species previously listed by the BAP process. This paper presents a robust indicator of the status of threatened species in the UK, with species identified as conservation priorities being taken as a proxy for threatened species.
