NEW YORK,NEW YORK edited by Valerie Block

A conservative approach, in writing onservative hit man James CO’Keefe, who used Candid Camera tricks to shake up National Public Radio and take down advocacy group Acorn, has a new project up his sleeve. He’s looking to write a book, according to publishing industry sources. ¶ His agent, Alexander Hoyt, began talking to editors last week. ¶ Mr. O’Keefe won acclaim in conservative circles in 2009 for posing as a pimp with his hooker and secretly videotaping encounters that supposedly showed Acorn staffers offering illegal getty images advice to the couple. The tapes were eventually found to have been misleadingly edited. The young activist used similar tactics to bring down a top NPR fundraiser last spring. ¶ Mr. Hoyt denied that he was “shopping” anything. He and Mr. O’Keefe are “talking about a possible book,” he said. “We’ll have a better idea [of what it is] in the coming weeks.” ¶ Conservative houses are getting ready for a busy book-selling season, heading into the 2012 election. One challenge will be finding time between major events, when the titles can get enough attention. ¶ “People are trying to get their books published between now and the primaries, and between the primaries and the election,” said one publisher. “It’s a very exciting time.” —matthew flamm

Continued from Page 2 the YES Network, which carries New Jersey Nets games, will suffer less than MSG,but it is adding pro- gramming as well. There will be more college basketball, possibly more soccer and the new Yankees Baseball Daily. In addition, the Nets, which will move to the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn next fall, are missing a chance to promote their new digs. ESPN and especially TNT will also be scrambling to fill gaps in their programming. While ESPN can turn to college football and bas- ketball, TNT has been resorting to reruns of CSI: New York. The Turner network relies on its NBA playoff games to drive ratings and keep it competitive with rival USA for the top rung among ad- supported cable channels. Silver lining for networks The silver lining is that the cable networks may actually be more profitable without basketball. Time Warner’s TNT and - ney’s ESPN and ABC collectively pay the NBA about $1 billion a year for rights to the games; they netted a total of about $664 million in ad sales last year, according to Credit Suisse analyst Spencer Wang. Because college sports and series reruns are cheaper, an expected ad revenue drop wouldn’t hurt the bot- tom line. “Profitability and margins would improve moderately for each network,” Mr. Wang wrote in a re- search note last month. The risk, he added, is that fans could remain angry once the dispute is settled and might not come back. Some experts say that’s unlikely, and point to how the National Hockey League has rebounded since a lock- out canceled its season in 2004. Others argue that Major League Baseball never completely recov- ered from the 1994-95 strike that cost it a World Series. “That was when you saw baseball wane as the national pastime and football replace it,” said Adam Swanson,an analyst at research firm SNL Kagan, who covers regional sports networks. “Who’s to say that basketball couldn’t be hurt, too?” Ⅲ

But the Crain’s story set off a se- ries of phone calls and correspon- dence starting Nov. 7 between Todd Miller, the new chief executive of Peninsula, and Richard Cook, a deputy commissioner with the De- partment of Health. “We are reviewing the informa- tion we recently received,” a DOH spokesman confirmed last week. After the Crain’s article ques- tioned whether Revival has taken control of the hospital instead of just investing in it, DOH sought details on the hospital’s governance and asked why there is no management services contract between Revival and Peninsula,as state law demands. Mr. Miller also admitted to Mr. Cook that Steven Zakheim, the controversial health services entre- preneur who is married to the own- er of Revival Home Health Care, is serving as an adviser to him. “Steve Zakheim is providing un- paid consulting services to the man- agement of Peninsula, but he is not a member of the board of directors or its operating committee,” Mr. Miller wrote in a letter to Mr.Cook. In June 2005, Mr. Zakheim pledged not to be involved with Re- vival Home Health Care after it was learned that he had failed to disclose a misdemeanor conviction on a pre- vious application to acquire a nurs- ing home. Mr. Zakheim’s affidavit for DOH stated he would “not have any direct or indirect involvement with the operation, management or control” of the home care agency. Board stiffed Mr. Miller also told DOH after the Crain’s article was published that the Peninsula board was unchanged and included no Revival members.
