Many a traveller has been caught paying expensive cab fares after booking an early flight from this airport without investigating how to get there in time for check-in. Here’s what you need to know about getting to and from Stansted Airport: TUBE There is no Tube station servicing Stansted Airport. However, if you are travelling by the Stansted Express (see below) you will have to catch the Tube to Liverpool Street Station. The Tube runs from around 5am (remember that if you book a cheap 6am flight, you will need to check in at the airport at least one hour before your flight). Liverpool Street Station is on the Circle, Hammersmith and City, and Metropolitan Tube lines. See a tube map here. Cost: Cash single fare £4; with an Oyster card £2-£3.50 Journey Time: You should check the Transport for London tube map to see how far you have to travel. Cost: Cheapest single fare £15.50; Cheapest return fare £25.50 Journey Time: Trains depart every 15 minutes with an average journey time of 45 minutes. One of the biggest operators is National Express, which operates a 24-hour service to and from London Victoria (and you can get a Tube from there to your Central London destination). Cost: Single fare approx £10 Journey Time: Approx 1 hour 30 minutes Links: www.nationalexpress.com TAXI If you book one of the earliest flights from Stansted, you may need to travel before the buses, tube or trains start. In this case you might need to get a taxi or ‘minicab’. There are some cheap minicab operators in London who will quote you a standard fee to get to the airport.
