ToA Down South Every year the second it gets cold outside I use the same joke, “How did you all convince me to move to Minnesota?” The cold front, even for this Chicago boy, is something we all know is coming and almost all of us hate it. Do not get me wrong, I like seasons, but I only like the three that do not include massive amounts of snow. I understand the desire to move south for the winter.

A few years ago, I made a trip to Miami/Boca/Naples to have lunch and coffee with congregants down in Rabbi Fine and Synagogue Treasurer Florida. It was a wonderful and meaningful trip. There is a certain in January. pride for Temple of Aaron that is rarely felt elsewhere. When I go to conferences, I am always stopped by some random person I have never met to tell me a story they have about Temple of Aaron.

There is a Jewish value of staying connected with your community and it is repeated twice in Pirkei Avot: “Do not remove yourself from the community.” The great Hillel brought it to our attention. Why is this so important that it is mentioned twice? Sforno – an Italian Sage of the 16th century – explains, “Yochanan the High Priest…served with distinction for 80 years during the second Temple only to later become a Tzaduki (someone who denies tradition).” Sforno knew that Hillel was in disbelief over Yochanan’s denial of all he knew and practiced up until his older age. Hillel was so pained by Yochanan’s departure January 29 in Boca Raton and Miami; he ensured it was emphasized in our literature. January 30 in Naples. Take Stock in Youth

Where do you spend Shabbat? Do you spend it with us here at ToA? Do you spend it out in nature? Do you spend it with family? Throughout my life, I’ve had the opportunity to spend Shabbat in a multitude of different places. I have spent Shabbat at USY conventions in Philly, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, California, Florida and many other places in hotels and camp grounds alike. I have spent over 50 Shabbatot at camps in the summer, many at home with my family when I was younger, and now with our family here in Minnesota. I have spent Shabbat in Jerusalem, Venice and other European cities, and I have spent Shabbat in Aruba. While all of these times have had special Joshua Fineblum, CJE moments, one place exceeds them all, our Annual Cantor/Educator Family/Young Professional Kallah. 651-252-5403 Email: Over the past three years, we have had both [email protected] members and potential members join the clergy and staff for an amazing away weekend either at Camp Chi or Herzl Camp. It has been incredible to watch members of our community come together each year for this event and we have already begun planning for this year‘s event.

Please mark your calendars to join us, May 1-3, 2020, for this year’s annual family/ young professional Kallah. We look forward to having you join the clergy once again this year at Camp Chi, in the Wisconsin Dells, as we spend a meaningful Shabbat together there. This month we want to welcome Eric Bomberg and Sarina Weinstein and their four-month-old Zoey! Make sure to say “Hi” next time you see them!

Q: Where did the people in your family grow up?

E&S: Eric grew up in Mendota Heights and lived there until he was 18 years old. After that, he moved between California (most recently San Francisco) and Minnesota five times before finally ending up back in Plymouth about a year ago. Sarina is originally from Los Angeles, lived in Minnesota with Eric for two years, and then moved with Eric back to Minnesota about a year ago. Eric was a member of ToA growing up, and actively participated in USY.

Q: So a lot of moving back and forth – what ultimately brought you back to stay?

E&S: We moved back here for Eric’s job at the University of Minnesota.

Q: What do the two of you do for work? Hobbies? What keeps Zoey busy during the day?

E&S: Eric currently works as a pediatric endocrinologist, researcher, and weight management specialist for the University of Minnesota. His hobbies include running and most anything sports-related. Sarina works as a business operations manager for two Montessori schools in the Eden Prairie area. She enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with the family.

Zoey currently attends infant care at Eden Prairie Montessori, where Sarina works, and LOVES it!

Q: Why did you choose the Temple of Aaron?

E&S: We joined the Temple of Aaron because Eric grew up going there, and his family and friends are still active members and regularly attend services there.

Q: Favorite Jewish Food? Eric: the “traditional” break-fast meal (lox and bagels, egg and tuna salads) Sarina: Matzah Ball Soup and Passover Rainbow Bars

Q: Favorite Jewish Holiday?

E&S: Passover!
