Single Campaign Medals

1 Le Rhin, contributed further, in the course of 1807, to the capture of Naval General Service 1793-1840, many other vessels and the blockade of Rochefort; witnessed, on the three bars, Boat Service 4 June 1805, Emerald 13 March 1808, Off night of 13 March 1808, the destruction, in Vivero harbour, in face of Tamatave 20 May 1811 (J.McKillop, Master’s Mate.). Toned, extremely fine. (1) a desperate opposition, of a large French schooner, L’Apropos, of 8 guns and 70 men; and was present, as Midshipman, in April 1809, at £4,000 - 6,000 the destruction of the French shipping in Basque Roads. €4,900 - 7,400 Becoming Master’s Mate, in Sept 1910, of the Astrea of 42 guns and Lieutenant John McKillop was born in March 1788 at Glenarm Co. 271 men, Capt Chas Marsh Schomberg, Mr McKillop proceeded to Antrim and was the son of the late David McKillop who served as a the Cape of Good Hope; and on 20 May 1811, when in company off Lieutenant in the Royal Navy for 50 years. He entered the Navy on the Madagascar, with the Phoebe and Galatea frigates similar in force to 10th October 1804 as First Class Volunteer on board the Loire under the Astrea, and 18 gun brig Racehorse, he assisted - after a long and Captain F.L.Maitland, with whom he continued almost uninterruptedly warmly contested action with the French 40 gun frigates Renommee, to serve, in the same ship, and in the Volontaire and Emerald until Clorinde, and Nereide, and a loss to the Astrea of 2 killed and 16 September 1810. He was under the fire, during that period, of the wounded at the capture of Renomme, and, on 25 of the same month, batteries in Muros Bay, when they were gallantly stormed and carried, of the Nereide and the settlement of Tamatave. As a reward for his and the privateers Confiance and Belier taken, by the boats under conduct on the occasion he was nominated, 30 June following, the late Sir Jas. Lucas Yeo, 4 June 1805; assisted, on the 23rd of the Acting-Lieutenant of the Astrea. He was confirmed to her 8 May 1812 same month, in capturing Le Valliant of 30 guns; was in company, but went on half-pay on her return under Captain John Eveleigh, to 24 Dec following, with L’Egyptienne frigate, at the capture, after an England in September 1813 and has not been since afloat. He married obstinate resistance, of La Libre of 40 guns; conveyed, in July, 1806, Anne, eldest daughter of the late Thos. Dickey, Esq., of Ballymena, co. to Sir Rich. Keats, off L’Orient, intelligence which led to the capture of Antrim by whom he has issue five children.

(1) £1,200 - 1,500 €1,500 - 1,900 £2,700 - 3,200 €3,300 - 3,900 Joseph Carey was born in Quebec on the 16th October 1830, he enlisted as a Boy, aged 14, on the 16th October 1844. He sailed for Surgeon ‘Earl Spencer’ 1800; Assistant Surgeon 1st Jan 1801; Calcutta on the “Duchess of Northumberland” on the 11th May 1846 Surgeon 22nd Feb 1811; Retired 5th December 1821. Served in Third and arrived at Aboukir in Egypt on the 29th May 1846, he arrived in Maratha or Pindari War 1817-18. Calcutta on the 10th September 1846. On the 22nd April 184 he was promoted to drummer, then to Corporal and took part in the Punjab 4 campaign and is entitled to the Punjab Medal with Mooltan and Punjab 1848-49 two bars, Goojerat, Mooltan (R.Hammond, 1st Bn. 60th.R.Rifles). A Goojerat clasps. He served as an original defender at the Lucknow couple of light contact marks, very fine. (1) Residency on the 1st July 1857, and was disbaled by a gunshot wound on the 9th. He was reduced to Private the following year and £500 - 600 restored to Corporal in April 1859. He embarked for England on the €620 - 740 1st September 1859. He was again reduced to Private in April 1860, and died at Aldershot on the 23rd October 1860. Private Robert Hammond died in Hospital on 25th December, 1849 (PRO.WO 12/6908, refers). Sold with various research. His medals were sent to his uncle who had served in the 32nd Foot as a Sergeant.

(Lanark Volunteer Rifles). With minor other issues etc. Generally very fine. (Lot) O.B.E. London Gazette 11.1.1944. He displayed great energy, administrative ability and drive in preparing £140 - 180 Malta to meet ‘Operation Husky’ requirements. On the day the €170 - 220 expedition left Malta he controlled the programme for Landing Craft loadings and assemblies. Every craft was loaded and sailed at the 54 programme time. British Army Insignia, an assortment including cap badges, shoulder titles, buttons, medallions etc. Varied state. (Lot) M.I.D. London Gazette 31.8.1943. Commander Henry Francis Waight was appointed an Acting Gunner, £150 - 200 R.N. in June 1914 and a Mate in October of the same year. During €190 - 250 the Great War he served in Torpedo Boats 2 and 109 from August 1914 until June 1916, when he joined Acteon, the Torpedo School 55 Ship, and latterly in the Light Cruiser Prosperine. Having been Royal Navy and Royal Marines Insignia, advanced to Lieutenant in June 1917, Waight went on to attain a wide assortment in cloth and metal mainly 20th Century issue with the rank of Commander prior to being placed on the Retired List buttons and other related insignia, defective medals. Varied state. (Lot) sometime between the wars. Called up in the Acting Rank of Captain in August 1939, he served in the Naval bases Spartiate and Arrossan £200 - 300 €250 - 370 in Scotland, prior to being posted to Stag, a Naval Depot in the Suez area in February 1942. A brief spell at Alexandria in the Nile followed, 56 during which period he was recommended for an M.I.D. for services Medal Cabinet, in support of the advancing 8th Army. Almost certainly these services a mahogany and mahogany veneer medal cabinet, with 18 standard included special duties at Benghazi in limiting damage to the port drawers and a further larger drawer at the base, with brass bound during heavy air attacks and in getting everything back into working corners to the front and two brass carrying handles, 45cm high x 54.5cm wide x 33cm deep. In good serviceable condition. (1) order. In May 1943 Waight joined St.Angelo in Malta, a posting that led to the award of the O.B.E. for his role in planning and supervising £100 - 150 the “Operation Husky” force while attached to the Staff of the Vice- €120 - 190 Admiral, Malta. He received the O.B.E. at Buckingham Palace in May 1944 and finished the war as S.B.N.O. while with the Golden Hind. Not suitable for postage but delivery in the UK can be arranged.
