Reynolds and O. Doyle Markham Radiological and Environmental Sciences Laboratory U.S. Department of Energy 785 DOE Place Idaho Falls, ID 83402 The publication "National Reactor Testing Station Environmentally Related Publications" (Markham, 1973) was a milestone in that for the first time since the establishment of the testing station 25 years before, titles relating to environmental issues from a variety of disciplines were presented under one cover. For those who subsequently initiated ecology or radioecology research projects, the concise listing of titles saved much time and energy. Since that contribution, many changes (including the name) have taken place at what is now the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL). The two most significant changes regarding environmental research occurred (1) in 1974 with the establishment of an active ecology research program at the INEL (the INEL Radioecology and Ecology Program), and (2) in 1975 when the INEL was designated a National Environmental Research Park (NERP). The mission of the Idaho NERP is to serve as an outdoor laboratory for scientists to study the basic ecology and examine the effects of energy development and technology on the sagebrush-grassland ecosystem. The NERP status and concomitant responsibilities resulted in an expanded radioecology and ecology research program that, to date, has utilized the talents of over 100 3 scientists, representing approximately 20 colleges and universities, 10 federal and state agencies, and 10 private firms. Through the combined efforts of these researchers and the research staff of the U.S. Department of Energy's Environmental Sciences Branch at the Radiological and Environmental Sciences Laboratory, the Radioecology and Ecology Program produced (in print or accepted for publication) a total of 32 Master's Theses, 11 Ph.D. Dissertations, 36 technical reports, 147 technical publications in refereed journals, and 6 popular articles since 1974 (Table 1). This report chronologically lists the citation of each of these documents. Individual annual progress reports, safety review documents, and other similar manuscripts resulting from Radioecology and Ecology Program research are excluded from the list. Appendix A groups the papers by primary and (usually) secondary subject categories. Numbered citations are in print. Those preceeded by letters are in press. We thank S. K. Rope and R. G. Mitchell for their assistance in categorizing citations. 4 Table 1. INEL Radioloecology and Ecology Program Publications, 1974 - 1986. 1. Markham, O. D. 1973.
