Each player takes a sheet of characters and a figure, each hunter takes one hunter's reference card, and Dracula takes a reference card. Prep are Hunter Cards: Shuffle all the item cards and place them face down near the board (5a). Then shuffle the Hunter and Dracula's event cards together into one deck and place it next to a deck of items (5b). Sort the hunter war cards by type and place them in three different piles near the point deck (5c). Prepare Dracula cards: Sort counter cards (6a) and Dracula's combat cards (6b) into two separate decks and individually shuffle them. Then create a location deck (6c) by organizing location maps numerically. Place all three decks face down near Dracula's side of the board. Create a token Pool: Place the ticket tokens face down near the board and randomize them. Then divide the remaining tokens by type and place them in piles near the board. Draw the meeting cards: Dracula draws five meeting cards for his starting hand. Place hunters: Each hunter places his figures on the city board. Lord Godalming is in Constanta A, Dr. John Seward is in Marseille B, Mina Harker is in Brussels C, and Van Helsing is in Amsterdam D. Playing an advanced game, each hunter chooses his starting city. Choose Dracula's starting location: Dracula chooses the starting spot. Instead of placing his figure on the board, he secretly his cards for a map corresponding to the place where he wants to start. He then puts this card map on the first space (left space) of the trail. Dracula cannot choose a sea zone, Dracula Castle or a city that the hunter occupies as a starting mim. By placing a map of the location, Dracula places his shape on a red circle next to the first space of the E. If there are three hunter players, one player controls two hunters. If there are two hunter players, each player controls two hunters. If there is one hunter player, this player controls all four hunters. Players like Hunters or Dracula Playing Dracula's Fury, each player controls one character-one of the hunters or Dracula. When the rule or action applies either to the hunter or to Dracula, this applies to both the player and the character (hunter or Dracula) who controls the player. A guide for new Hunters Hunters should focus on tracking down and killing Dracula. This requires time and cooperation. At the beginning of the game, hunters must use the action to navigate the map, hoping to find a place that is on the Dracula Trail. It is useful for hunters to spread to cover more land. While the hunters move in at the beginning of the game, they must collect as many useful items, events and ticket tokens so that when they get closer to finding Dracula's location later in the game, they can effectively corral him into a corner and defeat him. The object of the game during the fury of Dracula, hunters play as a team and win or lose the game together. Hunters search for Dracula when he secretly travels around Europe. Dracula's goal is to advance the path of influence into space 13 by creating new vampires and defeating hunters. The hunters' goal is to find and defeat Dracula before its influence sweeps Europe. Play Fury of Dracula is played during a series of game rounds. Each round consists of a hunter phase, followed by the Dracula phase. Rounds continue until the end of the game. Hunter Phase Each stage hunter contains both day and night. During the day, hunters can move around Europe and look for Dracula. At night, hunters can explore and prepare for the day ahead. First, each hunter performs one action during the day. Each hunter then performs one action at night. Players perform actions numerically according to the activation order number, which is printed on the top left corner of each character sheet. There are seven different actions a hunter can perform. Each hunter's reference card contains a brief description of these actions. Hunters perform the action as follows: 1. Moving actions When the hunter performs the action of moving, he moves his shape on the board to indicate his new location, which should be either a city or a marine zone (see What is the place?). Hunters can only perform moving activities during the The hunter can travel by road, rail or sea, namely: Road: Hunter can move from one city to a nearby city (see What are the roads and and Railroad: If a hunter has a ticket token, he can spend it on a railroad ride. He uses the value on the token from the spent ticket to determine how much railways he can use to move to a new city. This is described in detail later. Sea: If the hunter is in the port, he can move to the adjacent sea zone. If the hunter is in the marine zone, he can move either to a nearby port or to an adjacent marine area. If the hunter is in the marine zone during the day, he must move. If the hunter is in the marine zone at night, he must pass. What is the location There are two types of locations on the game board: cities and marine areas. Each city has a name and is either a large or a small city. Some cities are also ports. Each port is adjacent to the marine zone and has an anchor badge pointing to this. Sea zones are spaces on a board separated by borders. Two marine zones, which have common borders, are close. What are roads and railways? Roads and railways are the lines connecting cities with other cities. If two cities are connected by the same road, they are adjacent. On the diagram, the two big cities are not adjacent to each other, but both are adjacent to a small town. Each railway connects one city to another city. Hunters can use railways to travel long distances or between cities that are not adjacent. In the diagram, the hunter can navigate the railroad to move between two major cities, even if they do not abut. It's day, and the hunters perform actions in turn order: Lord Godalming is in Toulouse and he chooses to move along the road. There are several cities adjacent to Toulouse and he decides to move to Barcelona. Dr. Seward is in Marseille, and he decides to travel by rail. He spends one of his ticket tokens, which has 3/2 on it. Van Helsing is located in Genoa, which is a port. He decides to move by sea, so he moves to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Mina Harker moved from the Mediterranean to the Tyrrhenian Sea during the previous hunting phase. During the day it must move by sea. She decides to move to the nearby port city of Rome. 2. Supplying action to prepare for a deadly, imminent confrontation with the count, hunters must collect materials by drawing a paragraph and event card. If the hunter performs a delivery in a big city, he draws the top card of the item from the element deck and places it in his hand. If the hunter is in a small town, he does not draw a card of goods. Then the event map is drawn. When a player draws an event map, he must read it, as some event maps must be played Event maps are scattered differently during the day and at night, namely: Day: During the day, hunters take the card from the top of the event deck. If there is a hunter icon in the top of the event deck map, the hunter draws the card by placing it in his hand. If the top card of the event deck has a Dracula icon, the card is placed face down in the reset stack. Night: In time Hunters take the card from the bottom of the event deck. If the event card at the bottom of the deck has a hunter's badge, the hunter draws the card by placing it in his hand.

He is discreet and silent, and has grown into manhood in my service. The Fury of Dracula. I knew now well enough where to find the monster I sought. Be Inspired. Son of Dracula. Was it not this Dracula, indeed, who inspired that other of his race who in a later age again and again brought his forces over the great river into Turkey-land; who, when he was beaten back, came again, and again, though he had to come alone from the bloody field where his troops were being slaughtered, since he knew that he alone could ultimately triumph! While universally feared by the local people of Transylvania and even beyond, Dracula commands the loyalty of Gypsies and a band of Slovaks who transport his boxes on their way to London and to serve as an armed convoy bringing his coffin back to his castle. It seemed as if the whole awful creature were simply gorged with blood.

Creature of the Night: The Changing Image of Dracula Kathleen Webb Miami University Creature of the Night: The Changing Image of Dracula A thesis submitted to the Miami University Honors Program in partial fulfillment of the Requirements for University Honors by Kathleen Webb May 2003 Oxford, Ohio ii iii Abstract Vampires have horrified and fascinated people the world over for thousands of years. During that time vampires have evolved with society. Even from the time the Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula was published in 1897 to the first on-screen depiction of Dracula, there is change. Dracula doesn’t bring to mind the fearsome, corpse-like monster that Stoker created, but images of Bela Lugosi in the classic 1931 film. Today the “Bela Lugosi” Dracula has become the quintessential vampire. His long, black opera cape and tuxedo are the standard attire for the twentieth and twenty-first century vampire. Dracula is not a static creature, and has changed with the times. As society becomes more comfortable with sex, Dracula does as well. Thus it is important to examine not only what led to the “birth” of Dracula but also the social situations which have changed the way Dracula is portrayed in film and literature. Stoker’s Dracula who was pure evil has “matured” over time and now is an attractive figure who finds himself engaged in love affairs. iv Creature of the Night: The Changing Image of Dracula By Kathleen Webb Approved by: ______________________, Advisor (Dr. Ronald H. The Vampire as a Conduit of Cultural Anxieties Concerning Queerness BY WILLIAM A. TRINGALI Mentor: Heidi Bean Billy Tringali 1 The vampire is the queerest of monsters. Its terror does not emerge because it is an ungodly creation of science, or a mindless killing machine. It does not rise from the deep, scaled and covered in algae to steal unwary beachgoers. It is not a mishmash of various corpses, sewn together by a mad scientist. It does not howl at the moon, or remain a mild-mannered Jekyl in its waking hours, only to transform when it lies down to bed. No, the horror of the vampire is sexual.
