Second circular

The São Francisco craton in eastern contains two Paleoproterozoic orogenic features, which correspond to distinct segments of a collisional orogen developed between 2.1 and 1.9 Ga. The northern portion of the craton in Bahia state hosts a 300 km wide and 700 km long belt of amphibolite to granulite facies rocks that comprises three distinct Archean blocks and a Neoarchean/Paleoproterozoic magmatic arc. The Mineiro belt, located in the southern end of the craton, in the highlands of , involves an Archean basement, 2.5-2.0 Ga old passive margin to foreland basin strata, and a large volume of granitic rocks. The Paleoproterozoic section is best exposed in the district of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero ( Quadrangle), famous for its iron and deposits. As announced in the first circular, the workshop is organized in three sections: a seven days long field trip in Bahia, one and half day of presentations and discussions in , Minas Gerais, and four and half more days of field trips in the Quadrilátero Ferrifero region.
