With a backdrop of uncertain corporate default rates, increasing bankruptcies, liquidations and a massive wall of debt maturities looming, some may seize the moment and others keep away. Our distinguished panel of experts will aim to demystify the opportunity set for distressed investing and discuss the process for identifying and structuring investments to capitalize on current and future dislocations. Specific topics will include an assessment of the macro landscape relative to the distressed space, key metrics of successful corporate financial and operational restructurings, framing the opportunity set for corporate distressed investing and opportunities present in the structured finance space including asset backed securities. No walk-ins will be permitted. Biographies Todd Arden, Managing Director, Angelo Gordon and Co. Todd joined Angelo, Gordon in 2000 and is a Managing Director in the distressed securities group. Prior to joining the firm, Todd served as a Portfolio Manager/Analyst within AIG/SunAmerica’s High Yield Group. Previously, he was a Senior Equity Analyst at Troubh Partners. Todd began his career as a Manager in Arthur Andersen’s Financial Consulting Services practice, concentrating in the distressed/litigation support area. Todd is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a B.A. degree from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. degree from the Columbia University School of Business. Eric Epstein, Managing Member, Davidson Kempner Capital Management Mr. Epstein joined DKCM in February 2000 and became a Managing Member in January 2004. Previously, Mr. Epstein was a Managing Director at M.D. Sass Investor Services, where he oversaw the U.S. Sales and Marketing effort from January 1999 to January 2000 and was on the investment committee for the M.D. Sass Multi-Strategy Fund. From February 1995 to December 1998, he was Managing Partner of EJ Advisors, LLC, a middle-market investment banking advisory firm in Atlanta. From March 1993 to January 1995, Mr. Epstein was a Vice President of Bear Stearns, Inc. in New York City where he worked for the Asset Management and Financial Services Groups. From January 1991 to February 1993, Mr. Epstein was the Director of Marketing and a Portfolio Manager for the Asset Management Division of C.J. Lawrence, Deutsche Bank. He received a M.S. from the Leonard Stern School at New York University in 1990 and received his B.A. in Economics from Clark University in 1989. Sadie Gurley, Senior Portfolio Manager, Marathon Asset Management Sadie Gurley is a Managing Director and a Senior Portfolio Manager for the Marathon Distressed Subprime Fund and Marathon Structured Finance Fund focused on the residential mortgage and asset backed marketplace. Ms. Gurley was previously employed at Fortress Investment Group where she was a portfolio manager of a prime, subprime and manufactured housing whole loan and securities portfolio. Previously, Ms. Gurley was a ten year veteran at Goldman, Sachs where she worked in various roles focused on mortgage and asset backed securities including trading and investment analysis. From 2000 to 2005, Mrs. Gurley was a Vice President in the Asset Backed Securities Trading and Mortgage Trading desks where she was responsible for valuation of whole loans, hedging strategies, due diligence, contract negotiation, creations of structured solutions, and securitization. From 1998-1999, Mrs. Gurley worked in the Principal Finance Group advising clients on acquisitions and divestitures of consumer finance businesses and asset portfolios, evaluating opportunities in the consumer finance industry. From 1995-1998, Mrs. Gurley was a member of the Mortgage Research team and provided analysis of mortgage and asset backed collateral portfolios for structured transactions, securitization and valuation. Mrs. Gurley is a graduate of Washington State University (1991) and received her MBA from the New York University (2000). Robert Russell, Senior Portfolio Manager, Avenue Capital Group Mr. Russell is responsible for directing the investment activities of the Multi-Manager Strategy. Prior to joining Avenue in 2007, Mr. Russell was a Portfolio Manager in the external management group and member of the portfolio committee at Harvard Management Company, the investment manager that oversees the endowment and other assets for Harvard University. At Harvard Management Company, Mr. Russell was responsible for the management and oversight of Harvard's external hedge fund and global equity investments, a portfolio with over $10 billion in assets, including all aspects of manager sourcing, investment due diligence and structuring of investments in the portfolio. Mr. Russell also served as a Portfolio Manager for Harvard Master Trust, an ERISA pension plan with over $900 million of assets. Prior to that, Mr. Russell was a Principal and Portfolio Manager in the Fundamental International Equity Research Group at State Street Global. Prior to State Street Global, Mr. Russell was an officer at Eaton Vance Management. Mr. Russell received a B.S. in Finance, Investments and Accounting from Babson College (1996).
