A jogtörténész, levéltáros a Felvidéken elsősorban Késmárkon, Bártfán, illetve Eperjes város levéltárában dolgozott. E kötet szerves kiegészítése az Ma- gyarországi magánkönyvtárak I. (Adattár 13.), a Kassa város olvasmányai (Adattár 15.) és a Dernschwam könyvtár (Adattár 12.), amelyekhez most csatlakozik a jelen kötet a maga 141 könyvjegyzékével. Azt jelenti ez, hogy Kassa (1730-ig), Eperjes (1660-ig), Bártfa (1710-ig), Lőcse (1714-ig) és Késmárk (a maga szerény anyagával 1700 körülig) városok olvasmánytörténeti forrásait első olvasatban a szakemberek kezébe adtuk. Tervezett kutatásaink keretében a Királyi Magyarország területére vonatkozóan várható még négy kötet: Nyugat-Magyarország olvasmányai (Kőszeg, Ruszt, Sopron, Kismarton); Magyarországi magánkönyvtárak III. (Besztercebánya, Körmöcbánya, Selmecbánya); Magyarországi magánkönyvtárak IV. (vegyes felvidéki, illetve kárpátalji dokumentumok); Rákóczi-könyvtár. Kötetünk első felében több szempontból is vegyes forrásanyag található. A tulajdo- nosok körének társadalmi származását tekintve csakúgy, mint vallási hovatartozásukban nagyon heterogén. A XVII. század második felének, illetve a századfordulónak a politikai életet irányító arisztokrata és jelentősebb középnemesi családjai közül a Zrínyiek, Nádasdyak, Csákyak, Rákócziak, Forgáchok, Thökölyek, Bercsényiek, Ba- lassák és a Szirmayak képviseltetik magukat; nem hiányzik ugyanakkor a magát a hi- vatali életben érvényesíteni tudó nemesi réteg jelenléte sem (pl. Váradi György, 1682). Ezek a könyvtárak természetesen sok szempontból különböznek egymástól. Nem összehasonlítható például a közeljövőben monografikus feldolgozásban is megjelenő csáktornyai Zrínyi könyvtár anyaga a késmárki Thököly gyűjteménnyel. Az egyes bibliotékák összehasonlítását persze gyakran a forrásanyag különbözősége is nehezíti. Az említett két példánál maradva: a könyvtár újrarendezése során keletkezett katalógus (Zrínyi, 1662), amely feltehetően a költő, hadvezér Zrínyi Miklós valamennyi könyvét felsorolja nehezen vethető össze a különböző ingóvagyon-összeírások során esetlegesen megemlített könyvek töredék-jegyzékeivel (Thököly Zsigmond, 1673, 1677). Külön említhető II. Rákóczi Ferenc több kisebb könyvgyűjteményének dokumentáltsága (Sárospatak, Szerencs, Munkács, Bécsújhely), amely források segítségével a fejedelem gondolatvilágának alakulása is részben nyomon követhető, s ha hozzávesszük a halálakor vele volt könyvek inventáriumát (Rodostó, 1736: KtF VII. 30.), akkor e gondolati fejlődés végeredményéről is adalékokat nyerhetünk. A katolikus főpapság olvasmánykutúrájáról e helyütt Széchény Pál kalocsai érsek, Skerletz Miklós pécsi kanonok, illetve Otto Johann Wolkra veszprémi püspök gyűj- teményeiről készült, sajnos csak részösszeírások tanúskodnak. A katolikus alsópapság és az evangélikus, illetve református lelkészek ugyancsak kis számban vannak képviselve e kötetben. IX Az értelmiség alulreprezentáltsága olvasmánytörténeti forrásanyagunkban az egész viszgált időszakra (1526-1750) általában is jellemző;

    119 APPENDIX TO LUTHER'S CHURCH POSTILl The Fifth Sermon on the Epistle for the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity 2 Corinthians 3 :4-11 Translated by James L. Langbartels ext, you have heard that we should carefully distinguish the two N preaching offices, that of Moses and that of Christ. Moses came with such a shining face so that everything sparkled in his eyes. It was as if his face had rays;2 that is, it was glowing, so that people could not remain before it; rather, he had to cover3 his face when he wanted to speak with the children of Israe1.4 When he climbed up the mountain to God, he took off the cover; but when he returned to the children of Israel, he again put the veil before his eyes [Ex 34:29-35]. 'Luther himself prepared the Church Postils for Advent through Lent. The press of other duties led Luther to entrust the preparation of the remaining Church Postils to Caspar Cruciger (1504-1548). Cruciger's normal practice was to choose a sermon of Luther on the Historic Epistle or Gospel reading, edit it, and publish this as the Church Postil, which met with Luther's full approval. For the Church Postil on the Epistle read ing for the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity on 2 Co 3:4-11, Cruciger chose the sermon series Luther preached in August and September 1535 (Pr 1566-1570). In his editing of these sermons, Cruciger chose to omit most of the last sermon in which Luther dealt especially with the veil of Moses.

  • The Real Presence of Christ in Scripture: a Sacramental Approach to the Old Testament
    The Real Presence of Christ in Scripture: A Sacramental Approach to the Old Testament by Geoffrey Boyle A Thesis submitted to the Faculty of Wycliffe College and Graduate Centre for Theological Studies of the Toronto School of Theology In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Theology awarded by the University of St. Michael's College © Copyright by Geoffrey Boyle 2019 The Real Presence of Christ in Scripture: A Sacramental Approach to the Old Testament Geoffrey Robert Boyle Doctor of Philosophy in Theology University of St. Michael's College 2019 Abstract Of the various sense-making attempts to understand the relation of Christ to the Old Testament over the last century, there is a noticeable absence of any substantial presence. Christ is prophesied, witnessed, predicted, typified, and prefigured; but apart from a few alleged christophanic appearances, he is largely the subject of another, historically subsequent Testament. This thesis surveys the christological approaches to the Old Testament since the early 20th century breach made within historicism, introduces a patristic mindset, proposes an ontological foundation to a sacramental (real-presence) approach, then demonstrates this through a reading of Zechariah 9-14. The goal is to bring together three arenas of study—exegetical, historical, theological—and demonstrate how their united lens clarifies the substantial referent of Scripture, namely Christ. The character of the OT witness is thus presented in christological terms, suggesting a reading that recognizes the divine person within the text itself, at home in the sensus literalis. By way of analogy to the Cyrillian hypostatic union and a Lutheran eucharistic comprehension, the task is to show how one encounters the hypostasis of Christ by means of the text’s literal sense.

AN ANCIENT TRIED AND TESTED THREE-STEP PLAN FOR INCREASING THE SPIRITUAL (INWARD) AND NUMERICAL (OUTWARD) GROWTH OF LUTHERAN CONGREGATIONS BY PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL VERBALLY AND NONVERBALLY 24 HOURS A DAY Most evangelism programs do not work, and as a result many Christians feel guilty for not having personally witnessed to more people. This plan is an ancient plan because it was used by Israel of old and by the Christian Church from the day of its inception, and works because it communicates Law and Gospel nonverbally as well as verbally, and does it 24 hours a day year around. Face to face witness is not required, but the Plan enables even small children to do it easily and naturally. • The Twelfth Sunday After Trinity Sunday Also Live in Thee
    Communion Practice: We believe that Christ is truly present in Holy Communion and, as we try to be faithful to Christ in the serving of this Sacrament, we ask that everyone be examined and instructed by the Pastor before receiving Holy Communion. All confirmed members of this parish, who have been regularly examined by the Pastor, are welcome to partake of the Holy Eucharist today. We also welcome the members who are in good standing of any of the parishes served by the Bishop, Pastors, and Deacons of The Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North America (ELDoNA), and who have spoken to the Pastor prior to the service. Members of other Lutheran parishes or other denominations are kindly asked to refrain from communing today. The Pastor would be glad to make an appointment with anyone to discuss our teachings and/or our parish. A Prayer upon Entering Church Almighty, Ever-Living God, grant that I may gladly hear Thy Word and that all my worship may be acceptable unto Thee; through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen. A Prayer before Communion Dear Savior, upon Thy gracious invitation I come to Thine Altar. Let me find favor in Thine eyes that I may approach Thy Table in true faith and receive the Sacrament to the salvation of my soul. Amen. A Prayer after Communion O Thou blessed Savior Jesus Christ, Who hast given Thyself to me in this holy Sacrament, keep me in Thy faith and favor; as Thou livest in me, let me The Twelfth Sunday after Trinity Sunday also live in Thee.
