My soul, now bless thy Maker! 1. Praise the Almighty, my soul, adore Him! Let all within me bless His Name Yea, I will laud Him until death. Who maketh thee partaker With songs and anthems I’ll come before Him Of mercies more than thou dar’st claim. As long as He doth give me breath. Forget Him not Whose meekness From Him my life and all things came; Still bears with all thy sin, Bless, O my soul, His holy name. Who healeth all thy weakness, Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Renews thy life within; Whose grace and care are endless 2. Trust not in princes, they are but mortal; And saved thee thro’ the past; Earth-born they are and soon decay. Who leaves no suff’rer friendless, Naught are their counsels at life’s last portal, But rights the wronged at last. When the dark grave doth claim its prey. Since, then, no man can help afford, 2. He shows to man His treasure Trust ye in Christ, our God and Lord. Of judgment, truth, and righteousness, Hallelujah! Hallelujah! His love beyond all measure, His yearning pity o’er distress, 3. Blessèd, yea, blessed is he forever Nor treats us as we merit, Whose help is in the Lord most high, But lays His anger by, Whom from the saving faith naught can sever The humble, contrite spirit And who in hope to Christ draws nigh. Finds His compassion nigh; To all who trust in Him, our Lord, And high as Heaven above us, Counsel and aid He doth afford. As break from close of day, Hallelujah! Hallelujah! So far, since He doth love us, He puts our sins away. 4. God the Almighty, the great Creator, Ruler of sky and land and sea, 3. For as a tender father All things ordainèd, and sooner or later Hath pity on his children here, They come to pass unfailingly. He in His arms will gather His rule is over rich and poor, All who are His in childlike fear. His promise ever standeth sure. He knows how frail our powers Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Who but from dust are made; We flourish like the flowers, 5. Penitent sinners, for mercy crying, And even so we fade; Pardon and peace from Him obtain; The wind but o’er them passes, Ever the wants of the poor supplying, And all their bloom is o’er,— Their faithful God He doth remain. We wither like the grasses, He helps His children in distress, Our place knows us no more. The widows and the fatherless. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! 4. God’s grace alone endureth, And children’s children yet shall prove ∆ 6. Praise, O mankind, now the Name so holy How He with strength assureth Of Him Who doth such wondrous things! The hearts of all that seek His love. All that hath being, to praise Him solely, In Heav’n is fixed His dwelling, With happy heart its “Amen” sings! His rule is over all; Children of God, with angel host Angels, in might excelling, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Bright hosts, before Him fall. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Amen. Praise Him, Who ever reigneth, All ye who hear His Word, Nor our poor hymns disdaineth— My soul, oh, bless the Lord! Amen. TLH 526 “In God, My Faithful God” 3. Ye forest leaves so green and tender, ascribed to Sigismund Weingärtner, 1607 That dance for joy in summer air; Ye meadow grasses, bright and slender; 1. In God, my faithful God, Ye flow’rs so wondrous sweet and fair; I trust when dark my road; Ye live to show His praise alone, Tho’ many woes o’ertake me, With me now make His glory known. Yet He will not forsake me. His love it is doth send them 4. All creatures that have breath and motion, And, when ‘tis best, will end them. That throng the earth, the sea, the sky, Now join me in my heart’s devotion, 2. My sins assail me sore, Help me to raise His praises high, But I despair no more. My utmost pow’rs can ne’er aright I build on Christ, Who loves me; Declare the wonders of His might. From this Rock nothing moves me. To Him I all surrender, 5. Lord, I will tell, while I am living, To Him, my soul’s Defender. Thy goodness forth with every breath And greet each morning with thanksgiving 3. If death my portion be, Until my heart is still in death; Then death is gain to me Yea, when at last my lips grow cold, And Christ my Life forever, Thy praise shall in my sighs be told. From whom death cannot sever. Come when it may, He’ll shield me, 6. O Father, deign Thou, I beseech Thee, To Him I wholly yield me. To listen to my earthly lays; A nobler strain in Heaven shall reach Thee, 4. O Jesus Christ, my Lord, When I with angels hymn Thy praise So meek in deed and word, And learn amid their choirs to sing Thou once didst die to save us Loud hallelujahs to my King. Amen. Because Thy love would have us Be heirs of heavenly gladness When ends this life of sadness.

5. “So be it,” then I say With all my heart each day. We, too, dear Lord, adore Thee. We sing for joy before Thee. Guide us while here we wander Until we praise Thee yonder. Amen.

TLH 30 “Oh, that I Had a Thousand Voices” Johann Mentzer, 1704

1. Oh that I had a thousand voices To praise my God with thousand tongues! My heart, which in the Lord rejoices, Would then proclaim in grateful songs To all, wherever I might be, What great things God hath done for me.

2. O all ye pow’rs that He implanted, Arise, and silence keep no more; Put forth the strength that He hath granted, Your noblest work is to adore. O soul and body, be ye meet With heartfelt praise your Lord to greet!
