IST Significant Weather Features ♦ The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Tauktae” (pronounced as Tau’Te) over Saurashtra moved north­northeastwards with a speed of about 10 kmph during past 06 hours, weakened into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and lay centred at 0830 hours IST of today, the 18th May, 2021 over Saurashtra near latitude 21.6°N and longitude 71.3°E, about 10 km east of Amreli, 130 km south­southwest of Surendranagar and 210 km southwest of Ahmedabad. It is very likely to move northnortheastwards and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm during next 03 hours and into a Depression by today evening. The remnant of the system is very likely to move north­eastwards across Rajasthan to west Uttar Pradesh during 19th & 20th May. ♦ A trough runs from north Bihar to north Chhattisgarh at 0.9 km above mean sea level across Jharkhand. ♦ Southwest Monsoon likely to advance into South Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal around 21st May, 2021. Main Weather Observations Heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over East Madhya Pradesh. Light to moderate rainfall occurred at most places over East Madhya Pradesh and Many places over West Madhya Pradesh. Very light to light rainfall occurred at isolated places over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. Thunderstorm with lightning occurred at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh. Vidarbha: NIL. Maximum Temperature Maximum temperature markedly fell over West Madhya Pradesh, Appreciably fell over East Madhya Pradesh. No large change in maximum temperatures over Chhattisgarh & Vidarbha. They were Markedly below normal over Madhya Pradesh, Appreciably below normal over Vidarbha and below normal over Chhattisgarh. Durg recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42.2 degree Celsius. No significant change in Maximum temperature over Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours there after rise by 3­5 degree celsius. No large change in maximum temparatures over Chhattisgarh during next 3­4 days. Minimum Temperature No large change in mimimum temperatures over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. They were appreciably below normal over West Madhya Pradesh, below normal over East Madhya Pradesh and normal over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh. Seoni recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 18.6 degree celsius. The occurrence of drought is unpredictable and causes unprecedented damage to the production of crop and K e yw or ds livelihood. The present study has been conducted to assess the meteorological drought situation in Ujjain district using Effective Drought Index (EDI). For assessment six rain Drought intensity, gauge station situated in the study area is selected. Out of which station namely Barnagar, Drought magnitude, Ghatiya and Tarana have maximum extreme drought event with 8, 7, and 3 respectively. EDI, ArcGIS The occurrence of severe drought event is high for Khachrod station with 30 events. Article Info Drought intensity is maximum for Barnagar station (-1.44) and minimum for Mahidpur station (-1.3) indicating variability in the availability of water.
