Using Scene7 CS Extension (CSXS)

Note: If you upgraded to use the latest version of , be aware that support for Flash was removed. As such, the Scene7 CS Extension plug-ins that let you log in to Adobe Scene7 from within Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign no longer work. Adobe® Scene7® Creative Suite® Extension® lets you log in to Scene7 Publishing System from inside Adobe CS6 Photoshop®, Illustrator®, InDesign®, or Flash®. You can navigate to an asset in Scene7, open it in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash, and edit it within the Creative Suite application. You can also view assets in Scene7 folders, upload assets to Scene7, publish assets, and download assets. As well, you can upload a web-to-print template in Scene7-FXG format, preview it, and parameterize it in Illustrator and InDesign. You can do these tasks from inside Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash. Scene7 CS Extension is designed so you can use the Scene7 Publishing System locally on your computer inside Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash. About Adobe Scene7 Creative Suite Extension

Note: If you upgraded to use the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud, be aware that support for Flash was removed. As such, the Scene7 CS Extension plug-ins that let you log in to Adobe Scene7 from within Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign no longer work. Scene7 CS Extension lets you display the same folders and assets that appear online in the Scene7 Publishing System (SPS) web user interface. Use Scene7 CS Extension in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash to do these tasks when connected to SPS: • Edit a file stored on SPS using a Creative Suite application. • Browse and manage SPS folders, and search for assets in SPS. • Upload assets from your desktop to SPS. • Publish assets. • Download master files from SPS. • Save a file in the FXG format and upload it to SPS. • Preview the parameterization and parameter values of an FXG template. • Place an image from SPS in an open Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash file. System requirements

To use Scene7 CS Extension, make sure the 5 or later edition of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash Professional is installed on your computer. Scene7 CS Extension does not work with earlier editions of Adobe Creative Suite software. See also www.adobe.com/go/learn_sc7_systemreqs_en.

System requirements under Windows • Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon® 64 processor. • Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 3; Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (Service Pack 2 recommended); or Windows 7. • 1 GB of RAM or more recommended. • 9.3 GB of available hard-disk space for installation. Additional free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash-based storage devices). • 1280 x 800 display with qualified hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics card, 16-bit color, and 256 MB of VRAM. Installing and updating Scene7 CS Extension

Note: If you upgraded to use the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud, be aware that support for Flash was removed. As such, the Scene7 CS Extension plug-ins that let you log in to Adobe Scene7 from within Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign no longer work. You install the Scene7 CS Extension starting in the Scene7 Publishing System. (Only customers set up to use Scene7 Publishing System can install and use Scene7 CS Extension. If you are not set up to use SPS, contact your Scene7 administrator.) The installation of the extension is managed in Adobe Extension Manager CS6, which is bundled with all Adobe CS6 applications. After you install the Scene7 CS Extension, it is available in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Flash. You can update the Scene7 CS Extension as new features are added. Important: In computers running Windows 7 and Windows Vista, you must have administrative privileges and log on as an administrator in Windows to install and update the Scene7 CS Extension.

Installing Scene7 CS Extension Install the Scene7 CS Extension starting in the Scene Publishing System. In SPS, click Setup > Personal Setup. On the Personal Setup page, under Creative Suit Extension, click Download Now. How you install the Scene7 CS Extension depends on your operating system: Mac OS and Windows XP After you click Download Now, double-click, or choose to open the installation file with Adobe Extension Manager and click OK. Adobe Extension Manager opens and the extension is installed. Windows 7 and Windows Vista After you click Download Now, a message box explains the installation process. You must be logged on as a Windows administrator to install the extension. After you click OK in the message box, double- click the downloaded extension file (MXP or ZXP) to install the extension using Adobe Extension Manager. Alternatively, you can run the Adobe Extension Manager with administrator rights. To do so, right-click the Extension Manager icon or program file and select Run as Administrator. Then select Install in the Extension Manager and select the downloaded Scene7 CS Extension file. You are asked to close any open Creative Suite applications before completing the installation.

Updating Scene7 CS Extension Note: If you upgraded to use the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud, be aware that support for Flash was removed. As such, the Scene7 CS Extension plug-ins that let you log in to Adobe Scene7 from within Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign no longer work. Follow these steps to update the Scene7 CS Extension: Important: To update the Scene7 CS Extension on computers running the Windows 7 or Windows Vista operating system, log on as an administrator in Windows. 1 Open the Scene7 CS Extension in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Flash (Click Window > Extensions > Scene7). 2 Click the panel menu icon and choose Manage Features. The Manage Features dialog box opens. It lists the Scene7 CS Extension version that is installed on your computer.

3 Click the Update button (if the Update button in the dialog box is dimmed, your version of the Scene7 CS Extension is up to date). 4 Continue the update, following instructions for the operating system on your computer: Mac OS and Windows XP Adobe Extension Manager opens (it can take a moment to open). Skip to Step 5. Windows 7 and Windows Vista A message box describing the update appears. Click Continue. Open Adobe Extension Manager. 5 In the Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash category, select Scene7 (an Update icon next to the extension name indicates that an update is available). 6 Click the Update button and click Yes to download and install the extension. You are asked to close any open Creative Suite applications before completing the update.

Migrating Scene7 CS extension to CS 5.5 or later Note: If you upgraded to use the latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud, be aware that support for Flash was removed. As such, the Scene7 CS Extension plug-ins that let you log in to Adobe Scene7 from within Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign no longer work. You can migrate extensions from CS5 or CS 5.5 to CS6 or later using Adobe Extension Manager 5.5 This section assumes that you already have CS6 and have installed some or all of the Scene7 CS extensions, and have installed CS6 or later on the same computer. 1 Start Adobe Extension Manager. If you run Adobe Extension Manager 5.5 or later on Windows 7 or Vista, you must run Adobe Extension Manager as an Admin. (Instead of clicking from the start Menu, right-click on it and select "Run as Administrator.") 2 Click Yes to start migrating the extensions. The extensions are not selected (the check boxes are not checked) when the migration completes. 3 Enable (check) each of the Scene7 Extensions under the appropriate application areas. The main “Scene7” hub extension is common to , Photoshop, Flash, and InDesign. If you enable this extension in one of these applications, it is enabled in all of them. Flash, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign each has its own Preview extension. Each Preview extension must be enabled in the specific application's area after you select the individual product from the Product panel. If you enable the Adobe Illustrator Preview extension, click Yes to All when asked if you would like to overwrite a file.

Starting Scene7 CS Extension and connecting to SPS

Follow these steps to start the Scene7 CS Extension and sign in to your Scene7 Publishing System server: 1 In Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash, choose Window > Extensions > Scene7. The Scene7 panel opens. 2 Enter your Scene7 Publishing System username and password.

3 Optionally, choose a server from the Server list. 4 Click Log In. Scene7 CS Extension offers a command for connecting to SPS in a browser window. Click the panel menu icon and choose Scene7 Publishing System.

About the Scene7 panel

Like other panels in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Flash, you can drag the Scene7 panel away from the panel dock to another location on the screen. You can resize the Scene7 panel by dragging one of it sides.

The Scene7 panel is designed to give you the same capabilities you have when working in Scene7. Here are the different parts of the Scene7 panel: Expand/Collapse button Expands or collapses the Scene7 panel. Panel menu icon Opens a drop-down list with Scene7 options. Search box Searches for assets. Folder button Displays your company’s folders so you can select a folder. Browse button Displays assets in the selected folder. Sort drop-down list Sorts assets in a folder by name, type, date, or size (Browse mode only). File Types drop-down list Shows files of a certain type or all files (Browse mode only).

Zoom Shrinks or enlarges thumbnail images (the larger a thumbnail is, the more details about a file can be read on the thumbnail). Refresh Options button Offers commands for refreshing folders and files. Tools menu Provides commands for updating, uploading, and downloading files. Add Folder button Creates a folder. Trash button Deletes folders or files. Note: To get Help using the Scene7 CS Extension, click the panel menu icon and choose Scene7 Help.

Working with assets

Scene7 CS Extension provides tools for locating assets you want to work with on the Scene7 Publishing System, and opening, editing, and updating those assets.

Locating an asset you want to work with Use these techniques to locate an asset you want to work with: Navigating to a folder Click the Folder button to see a list of folders, and click to select a folder on the list. Folders that contain subfolders have an Expand button next to their names. Click the Expand button to see subfolders in the list. Viewing the assets in a folder After selecting a folder, click the Browse button to display its contents. You see assets in the folder you selected. Beside each thumbnail image is the asset's name, file type, size, creation date, and last- modified date. You can use the zoom tools to make the thumbnails larger or smaller. Click an asset to select it. Searching In the Search box, enter all or part of an asset name, and press Enter. (To search in a particular folder and its subfolders, select the folder before pressing Enter.) Assets that meet your search criterion appear. To go to the folder where an asset you found in a search is stored, select the asset in the search results. Then open the Tools menu and choose Reveal Selected Asset in SPS Folder. Then click the Folder button to switch to Folder mode. Sorting In Browse mode, open the Set Sort Order menu and choose sorting options to sort the list of assets. You can sort assets by name, type, date created, date last modified, and size. Filtering In Browse mode, open the Show Files of Type menu and select a file type to display only files of a certain type.

Opening, editing, and updating an asset Follow these steps to open and edit an Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, or Flash asset that is stored on Scene7 Publishing System: 1 Locate the asset in the Scene7 panel. 2 Select the asset. 3 Double-click the asset or open the Tools menu and choose Open Selected SPS Asset. 4 Use the tools in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Flash to edit the asset. 5 Open the Tools menu and choose Update SPS Asset. The edited file is saved on the Scene7 Publishing System.

Important: How uploaded files are saved on SPS depends on whether the Overwrite Duplicates option is selected in the Upload Preferences dialog box. If this option is not selected, choosing Update SPS Asset doesn’t overwrite the original file on SPS. Instead, a copy of the file is saved. This copy is appended with a number. Scene7 recommends overwriting duplicates for better tracking of assets. For more information about Upload Preferences, see “Upload preferences” on page 11.

Deleting assets To delete assets, select them and click the Trash button . Note: You can’t recover an asset you deleted by using the Scene7 CS Extension. To recover an asset you deleted, log in to SPS in your browser. In SPS, click the Trash icon to open the Trash folder, select the asset, and choose File > Restore From Trash.

Uploading files and folders to Scene7 Publishing System

Use the Tools menu in the Scene7 panel to upload files and folders to Scene7 Publishing System (SPS). This menu offers commands for uploading a file you’re working on, uploading many files, and uploading a folder Follow these instructions to upload files and folders: File you’re currently working on In the Scene7 panel, select the SPS folder to which you will upload the file. Then open the Tools menu and choose Upload to SPS > Active Document to [Folder Name]. Files In the Scene7 panel, select the SPS folder to which you will upload the files. Then open the Tools menu and choose Upload to SPS > Files to [Folder Name]. The Select Files to Import dialog box opens. Select files and click the Open button. Folder In the Scene7 panel, select the SPS folder to which you will upload the folder. Then open the Tools menu and choose Upload to SPS > Folder to [Folder Name]. The Browse for Folder dialog box opens. Select a folder and click OK. Files are uploaded using your default upload preferences. For more information, see “Upload preferences” on page 11.

Creating a folder on SPS

Follow these steps to create a subfolder on the Scene7 Publishing System: 1 In Browse mode, select a folder 2 Click the Add Folder button . 3 Enter a name for the folder. Folder names cannot be more than 50 characters. 4 Click OK.
