Congratulations to this year’s Marketing Honor Students! These students have each taken a minimum of three years of marketing classes earning a B or better, competed in at least two years of DECA Competition and served as a leader on at least one major Marketing/DECA related project. This year’s Marketing Honor Students have each done far more than the minimums going above and beyond in many ways. They were designated as Marketing Honor students at graduation by wearing the DECA Stole with their graduation gown. Congratulations to each of you, your proud “DECA Mom,” Mrs. Vinther

Thank you to all those who supported our DECA Students this year. I wanted to share with you one last celebration/reflection piece related to the DECA Community Giving pro- ject that, with the help of many caring adults, placed 2nd at the International DECA Competi- tion this year.

Washington DECA recently highlighted our project success in their virtual Spring Empow- er Hour program. This professionally done video does a great job of highlighting the positive impact of community service and cel- ebrating the success of our students for coor- dinating this project.

If you have 3 minutes to watch the video here is a recording of the Washington DECA Em- power Hour—our students are featured at about 15:25 – 17:40.

Enjoy, thank you, see you in the Fall, Alana Vinther Marketing Teacher/DECA Advisor

JUNE CELEBRATES LGBTQ+ PRIDE & JUNETEENTH

Juneteenth (short for “June Nine- teenth”) marks the day when fed- eral troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all en- slaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.

8th to 9th grade bridge

Dear Parent/Guardians: We are extremely excited to again offer our Summer Bridge program for our incoming 9th graders. This three-day program is available to all stu- dents who will be 9th graders at Tyee High School in September.

The Summer Bridge program is designed to support students in making a smooth transition from middle school to high school both socially and aca- demically. While some students are prepared to meet the rigors of high school, research shows that many incoming freshmen are not. Did you know that more students fail 9th grade than any other grade level? It is also clear that if a student falls behind in the 9th grade, they are less like- ly to complete high school. We at Tyee are committed to student success and believe that a solid freshman foundation will ultimately lead to aca- demic and personal success throughout high school and beyond.

During the Summer Bridge program we will: Provide students helpful and positive study skills and work habits Introduce students to their teachers, counselor, and administrators Help students to build community with their peers Engage in fun activities

Summer Bridge will be held at Tyee High School, August 25-27, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Students will be provided breakfast and lunch. Please note there will not be a school nurse on campus during this time. In case of a health related emergency, staff will be directed to call 9-1-1. If any health conditions exist that require medication or treatment please specify on the registration form. To register visit https://tinyurl.com/TyeeBridge21. We look forward to meeting and getting to know your child and getting them off to a successful start at Tyee High School.

Sincerely,

Nicole Dock Kris McBride 9th Grade School Counselor 9th Grade Success Dean (206) 631-6492 (206) 631-6465

Important Yearbook Announcement! There are no scheduled student portraits this year due to Covid. Portrait uploads for the 2021 yearbook is now available on Treer- ing.com! This can be done via computer or the mobile Treering app. Photos can be uploaded via computer, cellphone, Google drive, Google Photos, Instagram, and Facebook. Parents, and/or students will need to create an account via this link: https:// www.treering.com/validate?PassCode=1016189530221763 See instructions on flyer at right. It will give option to purchase book, say no, then continue to log in and upload student portraits, senior portraits, and senior baby photos. Make sure to spell student name correctly, with grade, when uploading. Photos do not need to be professional, but should be correctly exposed and well lit, of the student only, and avoid distracting elements in the background. If no student photos are uploaded, yearbook staff will use previ- ous year photos if they are available within district files. As our yearbook staff is limited to attending only home games this year, we would love to see photos you have! Please share any photos from sports events you attended in the community upload section folders. New this year: students who purchase a yearbook receive two free custom pages to add any personal photos and graphics you want, which will appear only in your own book. Check the yearbook website for more info and/or contact year- book advisor Colleen Pfeilschiefter with any questions.
