USING PARAFFIN WAX FOR CANDLE MAKING. GOOD RULES TO FOLLOW... Paraffin Wax has many practical and hobby uses! This instruction sheet focuses on candle making for pillar, votive & container candles. This wax is not formulated for spa/therapy use on body parts. 1. Place our Paraffin Wax into a pouring pitcher that is itself placed in 1lb (450g) Paraffin Bars a pan of water (essentially, a double-boiler setup). Use a thermometer to monitor the wax’s temperature, and heat it to a liquid state (85°C / 185°F is a good target temperature). 2. If you’re going to add colouring to your Paraffin Wax, do so at about 80°C / 175°F. 3. Once liquified, stir the Paraffin Wax for 4-5 minutes, to ensure evenness between the wax and any additives / colouring you might be using. 4. If you’re going to add fragrance oils to your Paraffin Wax, do so just before pouring. Once added, stir the Paraffin Wax again. (This will maximize the fragrance effect.) 5. For pouring, turn your heat down and let the wax cool (71°C/160°F). Pouring into a preheated container/mold is best. 3lb (1.36kg) Paraffin Granules 6. Pour at a consistent temperature - wax that is too cool when poured may create air bubbles; wax that is too hot may shrink undesirably. For best results, pour the wax just above its melting point. Save about 20% of your wax from your original pour, for top-ups. After pouring, you may have to top up your candle containers because wax will typically shrink after it cools down. If desired, do a re-pour of additional wax into your candle’s container to top it up and level it out. Let the wax completely solidify first. NOTES FOR SAFE USE 7lb (3.2kg) Paraffin Granules 1. Paraffin Wax is excellent for candle-making. Do not heat or melt the wax over an open flame or in a microwave. 2. Do not overheat - like most wax, Paraffin Wax is flammable. 3. Remove wax pieces/granules from their box or pail before melting. Never melt the wax while still inside its container. 4. Always follow the operating instructions of your wax warmer if you’re using one. Paraffin Wax is usable in all warmers. 5. Paraffin Wax is a food grade wax, and is safe for canning.
