ALLEN, James II: Born on 7 Jul 1724 in Crewe, Va. ? DAR # 473868 Hanover, Amelia .Va.. He died on 28 Nov 1793 in Prince Edward Co., Va.. served as a private in Captain Joseph Smith's company in a detachment of 2nd Virginia Brigade commanded by Col. Fediger, formerly the commanded by Col. William Russell, known also as the 10th Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Stevens. He enlisted Sept. 6, 1776 and served three years. His name is borne on the rolls to March 1780 with remark "Expiration of service March 31, 1779. AMONETTE, John: (1756-1833) applied for pension, 1832, for service as private in Captain Franklin's company, 10th Virginia regiment. He was born in Virginia; died in Madison County, Alabama.-- D.A.R. Lineage Book, Vol. 68, p. 315. AARON, William: Born 1751, died 1841, he served in the 10th Virginia Regiment, listed as a pensioner on the 1840 Franklin County, Georgia Census. BRUMMETT, Thomas: Thomas Brummett born in Virginia 1754, died November 11, 1842 in Anderson County, TN. He married Mary BURRIS 17 Apr 1792 in Knox Co., TN. Mary Brummett, his widow, applied for a widows pension July 1838 in Rockcastle County, Ky and died November 6, 1847 In Anderson Co., TN. Thomas Brummett applied for a pension in Anderson County on October 16, 1818, aged 64 years. Thomas Brummett was a Private in the Virginia Continental line. His application (R-1368) for a pension in Knox Co, TN as a resident of Anderson Co. on October 16, 1818, aged 64 years, states that he enlisted 1777 in the Virginia 10th Regiment under Captain Shelton. He was in the , Guilford Courthouse, and others. After 3 years, he was discharged at Philadelphia. He was admitted on the pension rolls October 17, 1818. He was awarded a $96.00 annual allowance beginning January 15, 1819. CASON, John: John Cason’s pension application states that enlisted in Spotsylvania County, VA in February 1777 for three years under Captain Shelton in the regiment commanded by Colonel Walker (no record of a Col. Walker possibly Willis?) and another name (undecipherable). He also served under Colonel Fleury in General Wayne's division . He states he was marched to Williamsburg where the regiment was organized and from there to Danbury near the city of Philadelphia where the army went into winter quarters. In the spring they marched to New York and from there to the north. He was in the storming and taking of Stony Point in July 1779 where he continued for two months. From there they marched to the south to join General Gates army. On his way south at Fredericksburg, VA in February 1780, his term of enlistment expired and he was discharged. He served as a private. He was living in Anson County, NC when he filed his application for pension and died there in October 1834. CHRISTIAN, William: Lieutenant, Capt. John Sims Company, 1776-1778. After 1778 Field Officer in the Virginia Militia, Fought at the Battle of Guilford in North Carolina. (see pension application at our Image Gallery). CRUTCHFIELD, John: entered the service of the United States in December of 1777 and was marched to under the command of Lt. FRANCISCO, Peter: see < Revolutionary War - Peter Francisco > GREEN, John: Colonel, 10th Va. Regiment. GREGG, Mathew: Baptized September 17th, 1751 d. March 1832 Married Nancy Gibson in 1769.They both died in the home of their son John on March 30, 1832. Nancy was adopted and raised by a Lady Greystock on a James River, VA Plantation.He was a free will baptist minister, but considered himself a farmer. Joined the Revolutionary army at the age of 31 in October, 1776, enlisting from Stafford Co. Virginia. He served a three year term enlistment. His company was commanded by Capt. Mountjoy and belonged to the 10th Virginia Regiment . He was transferred to Capt. Thomas Holt's company and Col. Buford commanded that. Later he was transferred to Capt. Woodson's Company. He was in the Battles of Monmouth of Strawberry Hill & Valentine's Hill. Later he served under Capt. John Spotwood and Colonels Edward Stevens and John Green. He was discharged from the army December 1779. HARRIS, William: Enlisted in the 10th Virginia Regiment in Capt. John Gillison's company in Culpeper County, Va., on January 17, 1776, transferred from his 10th Virginia Regiment to the life guards, hinting that William arrived in Boston about March 1776. During his three-year army enlistment, William Harris traveled with the father of our country and undoubtedly had a front-row seat to all the major actions of the Revolutionary War. From Boston to New York to Valley Forge and finally to New Jersey and the evacuation of the British from the North, HOPKINS, Samuel: b. in Albemarle county, VA., about 1750; d. in Henderson, KY., in October, 1819. He was an officer in the , fought with distinction at Princeton, Trenton, Monmouth, and Brandywine, and at the his battalion of light infantry was nearly annihilated, while he was severely wounded. He was lieutenant-colonel of the 10th Virginia regiment at the , and after the death of Col. became its colonel, and served as such till the end of the war. He was made a prisoner, with the other officers, at the surrender of Charleston on 20 May, 1780. While they were conveyed in a British vessel to Virginia he complained to the captain of the harsh treatment and starvation to which they were subjected, and threatened to raise a mutiny on the ship unless they were treated as officers and gentlemen. This bold language secured for the sufferers proper care during the rest of the voyage. In 1797 he settled on the Green river in Kentucky, and served for several sessions in the legislature of that state. HORD, Thomas: Lieutenant, 10th Va. Regiment. MOUNTJOY, John: Captain, PULLEN, William: William Pullen served as a private in Captain George Lambert's company of Continental regulars of the 14th battalion, of foot, commanded by Colonel Charles Lewis. Revolutionary War.' He enlisted January 1, 1777, to serve three years and his name last appears as that of a private on a roll dated Camp near Morristown. December 9, 1779, of Captain Overton's company, 10th Virginia regiment, commanded by Col. William Davies. The records show that the 14th Virginia Regiment became the 10th Virginia regiment about November, 1778, and that about May, 1779, the lst and 10th Virginia regiments were incorporated and designated the 1st and 10th Virginia regiment. He resided in Jefferson County, June 1, 1840, aged 82. Census of Pensioners, 1841, p. 149. REPETO, William: SCRUGGS, Samuel Scott , (aka Scott Martin): Samuel enlisted, August 22, 1777, into James Franklin's Company of Foot under the alias of Scott Martin. This unit was re-designated as Company 3 of the 10th Virginia Regiment. On October 4, 1777, the 10th VA Regiment fought in the Battle of Germantown as part of Colonel Weedon's 3rd Brigade. Following this event Samuel spent the infamous winter with the Continental Army at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Samuel participated in the, June 28, 1778, battle at Monmouth, NJ. He may have been wounded in this engagement because his service records show him in the North River Hospital in August. After Monmouth, the 10th VA Regiment became part of the 6th VA Regiment. From December 1778 to March 1779 Samuel was at Camp Middle Brook, NJ, and in November 1779 at Camp Haverstraw, NY. Samuel spent the winter of 1779-80 with the Continental Army at Morristown, NJ.
