The humor schedule for this year The festival of humor and wit, mockery and satire can hardly be limited to one performance or one day. As it turns out, there is too much to be picked on and pointed at. Hence, the laughter riot will come in daily doses for 17 days with a total of 22 shows starting from 2 August to 18 August. There is no doubt that every show will be neck deep in sarcastic humor and will be the highlight of every performance. A number of comic maestros from the silver and small screens will be on stage with their own performance. Not one performance will collide with another in terms of story. Various artists from comedy series popular on TV will join forces to bring you an evening of humor-coated truth in the form of stand-up comedy. Some of the many teams performing are Jhyaikuti Jhyai, Meri Bassai, Jai Hos, Tito Satya and Jire Khursani. Other single performances by Sailendra Simkhada, Tika Bhandari, Sushma Karki, Manoj Gajurel and Laxman Gamnage are also major attractions of the long celebration. Also witness legendary comic actors Kiran KC and Shiva Hari Poudel team up and create magic on stage. The tickets for all the shows are available at the ticket counter of Nepal Academy Hall, Kamaladi. What is the Environmental Activist Training? Environmental Activist Training (EAT) is a workshop designed to connect youth with local role-model activists of the environment field to inspire action and spread awareness. The participants will get to hear stories of activists- what all they have learnt and about their inspiration. The workshops being held in different areas around Kathmandu will give the youth an opportunity to learn more about organizing events at grassroot level, social media, film-making, social entrepreneurship, and other aspects of being an environmental activist. What is the larger goal of Chakraby? Chakraby is working on setting up approximately 14 bicycle racks, where people can park and lock their bikes. It is a social experiment that will make cycling in the city slightly more convenient for a potentially big amount of people. How has been the response of people? KALAM It has been really overwhelming in terms of how much support we have received for our workshops. We have been able to get students from 25+ colleges and various clubs and institution. Malla had an idea, he sketched characters and his ensemble of cast sculpted a beautiful structure eater out of an amorphous matter.

“Banki Prista” depicts the story of the aftermath of civil war. The plotline

Th underscores the inefficiency on the part of the state to document the remaining chapters of the war. It laments that the leftover is untouched. The history books will never narrate what ensued after both sides seized fire, after the state and the revolutionary party signed the paper, after the media wrote/broadcasted the end of the war. There are no records of the sufferers, the lost, the killed, the widowed, the broken families, and the deserted villages. The play throws questions at the audience. Fighting constraints is child’s play for the Nepali creative people and Malla is no exception. In fact, we should be the torch bearers for ‘How to work in limited resources’ convention. If someone needs a crash course on ‘low-cost theatre production’ one should contact Malla. The hung corpse is suggested, likewise the river, the stone, the rape scene and the one that gets the standing ovation is the ‘rolling of the corpse into the hole’ scene. Salute to Bhimmaya Prajapati Manandhar who breathed life into the character. Every time she had to The audience is asked to use their ability to visualize things that are not lift a heavy boulder (an imaginary one), she would exercise all her force and the on stage. The play applies an interesting methodology of storytelling. It audience could understand the incessant perspiration and the wiping off sweat uses minimal dialogues and limited props and seeks participation from the act (since lifting multiple heavy boulders consumed her vigor!) and the displayed audiences to comprehend the content. It endorses the fact that feelings are exhaustion does not look unnatural. Her portrayal of a widow and the sufferings universal and that emotions shouldn’t be uttered loud to be translated. And that she has to endure was so real-to-life that the audience member sitting next the actors have been successful to communicate the message. Malla lives by to me could not bottle up her emotions and resultantly shed tears. one philosophy and that is- theatre should transcend space and time. And that is what he has effectively practiced with “Banki Prista”. The choreographed dance movements, fighting scenes are timed well. The lighting was outstanding and accentuated the drama required in such scenes. The play has tried something different than what had been fed to us so far for example the ‘chase’ scene between the dacoits and the soldiers is superbly executed, so is the one in which the recently widowed wife is robbed off the cultural symbols of a married woman. There is a lot of experimentation and thus “Banki Prista” is triumphant in being a treat to the audiences. The cast did justice to their parts and didn’t look out of their characters; except for the two actors who opened the play. They were impersonating old people and thus were wobbling and stooped but their physical gestures looked exaggerated and unconvincing and therefore appeared unreal and unnaturally old. Also, like with his last play “Sakuni Pasaharu”, this one too could have been a bit shorter. It seems overstretched at times. Nevertheless most of the portions transfix the audiences. Because of the overwhelming response, the production had to extend the viewing date. It will be staged till 4 August from 5 pm. Contact: 4438947
