La pionera fue la Sociedad “El Porvenir Democrático” (1869-1874), a la que siguieron la Sociedad “Filarmónica y de Recreo” de Güímar (1884- 1909), el Casino de Güímar (1900-), único que sobrevive hasta el presente, la Sociedad “Euterpe” (1910-1914)2 y el Casino “La Unión” (1915-1924)3. En este artículo solo nos vamos a dedicar a la segunda de ellas. En la calle San Pedro Abajo de Güímar se estableció la Sociedad Filarmónica y de Recreo, que existió durante unos 25 años y en los últimos compartió su actividad con el Casino de Güímar.     LAS CAMPANAS DEL MUNICIPIO DE GÜÍMAR: LENGUAJE, HISTORIA Y TRADICIÓN José Lorenzo Chinea Cáceres Resumen El presente artículo aborda el estudio de las campanas del municipio tinerfeño de Güímar, atendiendo a criterios organológicos, histórico-artísticos y etnográficos. Partiendo de la comprensión de las funciones desempeñadas por estos instrumentos de comunicación social en la cultura occidental católica, se desarrolla un estudio documental de cada una de las campanas que penden de las torres y espadañas de los templos de la localidad, concluyendo con una sucinta referencia a los diferentes repiques tradicionales que se ejecutan durante sus fiestas mayores. Palabras clave: campana, Güímar, campaneros, repiques. Abstract «Güímar’s bells: language, history and tradition». This article deals with a study about church bells from Güímar, a municipality on the island of Tenerife. In order to do it so, different approaches —organologic, historic, artistic and ethnographic— have been considered. Firstly, the understanding of church bell role in social communication inside occidental-catholic culture is analysed. Secondly, all church bells from church towers and 73 bell gables in the churches throughout Güímar have been taken into consideration in order to carry out a documentary study. Finally, a concise mention of different traditional ringings from main town celebrations has been added. Keywords: Church bell, Güímar, bell-ringers, ringings.
