STATE GOVERNOR, MR. BABAJIDE OLUSOLA SANWO-OLU’S, PROFILE THIS ABRIDGED ACCOUNT PROVIDES A GLIMPSE INTO HIS TRAJECTORY OF EXECELLENCE

Introduction Until his election as the 15th Governor of on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 elections, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu was the Managing Director/CEO of Lagos State Development Property Corporation (LSDPC). He was also a 3-time Commissioner in Lagos State, having served in the Ministries of Economic Planning & Budget, Commerce & Industry and the Ministry of Establishments, Training & Pensions.

Education Mr. Sanwo-Olu is an alumnus of the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School of Government, London Business School and the Lagos Business School. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Surveying & Geo-Informatics and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the . He had his early education at Government Demonstration School, Gbaja, and Ijebu-Ife Grammar School, Ogun State.

Professional Associations He is member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), Nigerian Institute of Directors (IOD), Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and Fellowship of Institute of Training and Development (NITAD).

Private Sector Experience Mr. Sanwo-Olu was a Treasurer at former Lead Merchant Bank from 1994 to 1997 before joining United Bank for Africa (UBA) as the Head of Foreign Money Market. He subsequently moved to First Inland Bank Plc (now First City Monument Bank) from where he retired as a Deputy General Manager and Divisional Head.

Public Service Experience His public service career began in 2003, when he was appointed Special Adviser on Corporate Matters to the then Deputy Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Femi Pedro, and later Special Adviser on Corporate Matters to the Governor, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

For his outstanding performance, he was appointed acting Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget. In 2007, he became the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry under Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. After the General Elections in 2007, Mr. Sanwo-Olu was appointed Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions by Governor .

His meritorious service to Lagos State continued when Governor Akinwumi Ambode appointed him as the Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development Property Corporation (LSDPC) in 2016.

Board Appointments His valuable experience garnered from executive-level roles in both private and public sectors has not only distinguished him, but also made him a valuable resource to some notable organisations, on whose boards he had served.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu’s board role included being the chairman of Baywatch Group Limited and First Class Group Limited. He was a board member of the Department for International Development (DFID/DEEPEN) Fund and Caverton Offshore Services Group, where he served on the Audit Committee.

Politics On 16th September 2018, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu formally declared to run for the office of the Governor of Lagos State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His declaration attracted endorsements from major stakeholders in Lagos State politics; including the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Lagos State Council Chairmen and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He won the Party Primary on October 2nd, 2018 and became the APC candidate for Lagos State Gubernatorial elections in 2019. He was declared winner of the March 9, 2019 gubernatorial elections by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, March 10, 2019 after defeating 44 other candidates, who represented different parties at the election. By that announcement, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu became the 15th Governor of Lagos State.

A product of resounding victory, Mr. Sanwo-Olu polled 75.6% of the total valid votes cast in the election to substantiate his legitimacy, which was further affirmed by a 72.12% vote difference between him and the contestant. His victory at the election is a solid endorsement of his leadership aptitude and the All Progressives Congress (APC) politics of development and inclusiveness in Lagos State.

Some Notable Achievements Before Election Some of his notable public sector achievements include:

• Setting-up and serving as the pioneer Chairman of Lagos Security Trust Fund Board.

• Working to improve public transportation system by setting-up the LAGBUS to compliment the Bus Rapid Transit system also known as BRT.

• On security, Sanwo-Olu also worked on the Control & Command Centre in Alausa, which significantly improved the capacity of the security agencies to respond to distress calls in a swift and timely manner.

Awards & Recognitions It is unexpected that Mr. Sanwo-Olu’s enterprising career in the private sector, defining roles in public service and selfless contributions to the society would not have attracted international recognitions and accolades at home.

Personal and Family Life Mr. Sanwo-Olu was born on June 25, 1965 in Lagos State. He is a reliable partyman and astute politician, who is reputed for his people-centered ideology. He is happily married to Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, a Medical Doctor and their marriage is blessed with lovely children.
