An Ex of a Friend Is My Friend?: an Exploration of the Effects of Pre-Marital Romantic
An Ex of a Friend is My Friend?: An Exploration of the Effects of Pre-Marital Romantic Relationship Termination on Social Networks Michelle E. Losordo Boston College 2 Abstract This study examines the effects of the termination of pre-marital relationships within college social networks. Fifteen undergraduates were asked questions pertaining to how the break-up of two friends affected them, as well as their social networks. Key aspects of the post- break-up experience include: the current relationship between the participant and the ex-partners, the relationship between the ex-partners when they were together, the reason for the break-up, the description of the social network, the current relationship between the ex-partners, and how the break-up story was told by each ex-partner. The results illustrate that the dissolution of pre- marital relationships within the college environment has significant consequences for the members of the ex-partners’ social networks. 3 Literature Review “Can we still be friends?” This seems to be one of the most common ways many break- ups end. Whether the disengager means it or not, this question is not as simple as one might think. While it could possibly be the ideal situation, everyone knows that this is not always the case. However, Busboom, Collins, Givertz, and Levin’s (2002) study revealed that post-dating friendships are common among young adults. Significant research corresponds to this as Kaplan and Keys (1997) reported that 14% of males and 13% of females revealed that their closest current friendship was with an ex-romantic partner. Sheehan and Dillman (1998) discovered in their study that about 50% of respondents reported being friends with their ex-romantic partner. -
The Impact of Attachment and Intimacy on Initiator Breakup Strategies
Interpersona | An International Journal on Personal Relationships interpersona.psychopen.eu | 1981-6472 Articles Communication Modes During Romantic Dissolution: The Impact of Attachment and Intimacy on Initiator Breakup Strategies William Hoffman* a [a] Department of Communication Studies, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, USA. Abstract A majority of romantic pair-bonds will not remain together. Surprisingly, however, less is known about relationship dissolution compared with other stages of romantic relationships, such as initiation and maintenance. The present study addresses this gap by investigating breakup initiators’ communication strategies as outcomes for the individual’s attachment style and the emotional intimacy of a recent terminated romantic relationship. Participants (N = 174) completed a series of empirically reliable and valid Likert-scale measures to assess both predictors: (a) adult attachment and (b) emotional intimacy. Emotional intimacy was a significant predictor of each of the four breakup communication strategies, and adult attachment style – particularly attachment anxiety - was significantly related to specific communication strategies, primarily those related to openness. This researcher concluded that emotional intimacy better predictors of breakup communication strategy compared with attachment style. Limitations and a general discussion or summary of findings are provided, followed by some suggestions for future research. Todd Rundgren Information
Todd Rundgren I have been a Todd Rundgren fan for over 40 years now. His music has helped me cope with many things in my life including having RSD and now having an amputation. I feel that Todd is one of the most talented musician, song writer and music producer that I have ever met in my life. If you have ever heard Todd's music or had an opportunity to see Todd in concert, you will know what I mean. Most people do not know who Todd Rundgren is. Most people say Todd who? Todd's best-known songs are "Can We Still Be Friends," "Hello, It's Me" "I Saw the Light," "Love is the Answer," and "Bang on the Drum All Day" (this is the song that you hear at every sporting event). Todd is also known for his work with his two bands Nazz and Utopia, while producing records for artists such as Meat Loaf, Hall and Oats, Grand Funk Railroad, Hiroshi Takano, Badfinger, XTC, and the New York Dolls. A Wizard, a True Star. the Title of Todd Rundgren's 1973 Solo Album Aptly Sums up the Contributions of This Multi-Faceted Artist to State-Of-The-Art Music
TR-i A Wizard, A True Star. The title of Todd Rundgren's 1973 solo album aptly sums up the contributions of this multi-faceted artist to state-of-the-art music. As a songwriter, video pioneer, producer, recording artist, computer software developer, conceptualist, and, most recently, interactive artist (re-designated TR-i), Rundgren has made a lasting impact on both the form and content of popular music. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Rundgren began playing guitar as a teenager, going on to found and front The Nazz, the quintessential `60's cult group. In 1969, he left the band to pursue a solo career, recording his debut offering, the legendary Runt. But it was 1972's seminal Something/Anything?, on which he played all the instruments, sang all the vocal parts, and acted as his own producer, that catapulted Todd into the superstar limelight, prompting the press to unanimously dub him 'Rock's New Wunderkind'. It was followed by such landmark LPs as The Hermit of Mink Hollow and the above mentioned A Wizard, A True Star, as well as such hit singles as I Saw The Light, Hello It's Me, Can We Still Be Friends, and Bang The Drum. In 1974, Todd formed Utopia, an entirely new approach to the concept of interactive musicianship, and embarked on an extensive round of touring and recording. Standout Utopia offerings included Oops! Wrong Planet, Adventures in Utopia, and Oblivion. Along the way, Utopia combined technical virtuosity and creative passion to create music that, for millions, defined the term "progressive rock." Rundgren's myriad production projects include albums by Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, Psychedelic Furs, Meatloaf, XTC, Grand Funk Railroad, and Hall And Oates. -
Can We Still Be Friends? FDA and Pacira to Settle Lawsuit Relating to Off-Label Promotion? Alan G
Legal Insight Attorneys at Law Can We Still Be Friends? FDA and Pacira to Settle Lawsuit Relating to Off-Label Promotion? Alan G. Minsk and William H. Kitchens Taking a page (or lyric) from Todd Rundgren’s 1978 song, “Can We Still Be Friends,” it looks like the government, namely, the Food and Drug Administration and Department of Justice, and Pacira Pharmaceuticals, are looking to settle a pending lawsuit, whereby Pacira is challenging FDA’s restrictions on the company’s promotional efforts. According to the U.S District Court hearing the case, the parties have extended the deadline by which the government must respond to Pacira’s lawsuit, indicating that they are looking to settle the case completely or narrow the dispute, which focuses, primarily, on promotion of off-label promotion. We discussed the Pacira lawsuit1 in our last Newsletter, and we have written about the Amarin lawsuit2, which was the precursor to this one. Recently, in a rare move, FDA removed the Warning Letter issued to Pacira from the agency’s website, suggesting settlement might be near, or at least is in discussions. We won’t re-review the facts of the Pacira case, as we have written about it previously. Furthermore, it’s too early to predict exactly how this will be resolved. FDA is still smarting over the Amarin decision, and the Pacira case, being heard in the same court that decided the Amarin matter, would seemingly favor the drug company. However, FDA doesn’t want to abdicate its ability to regulate drug promotion and wants to preserve the integrity of the new drug approval process. -

American Women Artists Since the Vote
American Women Artists Since the Vote Amendment XIX of the Constitution of the United States The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. his online exhibition presents works from the Museum’s collection by twenty- Tfive American women since 1920, the year of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. These selections represent every decade of the past century and a range of media, including painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and installation. The artists included here came from, lived in, and traveled to diverse regions of the United States and some even around the world, and they relate to a range of social and ethnic backgrounds and experiences. Their artworks indicate the engagement of American women in a variety of modes and styles of artmaking during this period, including their elevation of some practices that have been considered women’s work and, hence, less important than “fine” arts like painting and sculpture. This exhibition has a dual purpose: to celebrate the centennial of the Nineteenth Amendment and to consider its ramifications for the American women it was intended to enfranchise. Certainly, it was a boon—agonizingly hard-won—for the women of this country finally to have the right to vote. However, the language of the amendment made the extension of the right to vote limited and allowed states, counties, and municipalities to continue inhibiting voting rights on other accounts, including age, ethnicity, literacy in English, and ability to pay poll taxes.
