The entire Gainesville music scene was built around songs: Top Forty songs on the radio, songs on albums, original songs performed on stage by bands and other musical ensembles. The late sixties was a golden age of rock and pop music and the rise of the rock band as a musical entity. As the counterculture marched for equal rights and against the war in Vietnam, a sonic revolution was occurring in the recording studio and on the concert stage. New sounds were being created through multitrack recording techniques, and record producers such as Phil Spector and George Martin became integral parts of the creative process. Musicians expanded their sonic palette by experimenting with the sounds of sitar, and through sound-modifying electronic ef- fects such as the wah-wah pedal, fuzz tone, and the Echoplex tape-de- lay unit, as well as a variety of new electronic keyboard instruments and synthesizers. The sound of every musical instrument contributed toward the overall sound of a performance or recording, and bands were begin- ning to expand beyond the core of drums, bass, and a couple guitars. -

Historic Coast Culture's Farm‐To‐Fork Chef Series
Historic Coast Culture’s Farm‐to‐Fork Chef Series Presented by the St. Johns Cultural Council Overview Food is a major part of understanding any culture or region. On Florida’s Historic Coast, the culinary scene reflects 450 years of its coastal location and diverse heritage. From the original Spanish settlers, British colonists and the Greeks and Minorcans who emigrated here, visitors can savor a fascinating array of local culinary tastes and farm‐to‐table dishes. Visitors can experience everything from fine dining and quick eats to food festivals, in‐town and farm‐tasting events and culinary classes. Vision Today, farm‐to‐table Culinary is one of Florida’s Historic Coast’s key cultural assets that offers cultural travelers even deeper experiences while they are visiting. To showcase St. Johns County’s farm‐to‐table restaurants and farms, the St. Johns Cultural Council is creating a series of Farm‐to‐Fork Chef Dinners. Each will feature a top local chef from a farm‐to‐table restaurant and a local farm(s). The Chef Series will include both “In‐Town Dinners” at unusual places and “Farm Dinners” in rural settings. These culinary events will also feature local artisans, farm‐to‐table produce, local seafood and/or meats, farm‐to‐table desserts as well as local spirits. Each event will be unique, with a theme chosen by the Chef(s) for the location. These tastings will feel like an intimate dining experience where 30‐40 guests can speak one‐on‐one with the Chef(s) as well as local artisans and farms. -

An Ex of a Friend Is My Friend?: an Exploration of the Effects of Pre-Marital Romantic
An Ex of a Friend is My Friend?: An Exploration of the Effects of Pre-Marital Romantic Relationship Termination on Social Networks Michelle E. Losordo Boston College 2 Abstract This study examines the effects of the termination of pre-marital relationships within college social networks. Fifteen undergraduates were asked questions pertaining to how the break-up of two friends affected them, as well as their social networks. Key aspects of the post- break-up experience include: the current relationship between the participant and the ex-partners, the relationship between the ex-partners when they were together, the reason for the break-up, the description of the social network, the current relationship between the ex-partners, and how the break-up story was told by each ex-partner. The results illustrate that the dissolution of pre- marital relationships within the college environment has significant consequences for the members of the ex-partners’ social networks. 3 Literature Review “Can we still be friends?” This seems to be one of the most common ways many break- ups end. Whether the disengager means it or not, this question is not as simple as one might think. While it could possibly be the ideal situation, everyone knows that this is not always the case. However, Busboom, Collins, Givertz, and Levin’s (2002) study revealed that post-dating friendships are common among young adults. Significant research corresponds to this as Kaplan and Keys (1997) reported that 14% of males and 13% of females revealed that their closest current friendship was with an ex-romantic partner. Sheehan and Dillman (1998) discovered in their study that about 50% of respondents reported being friends with their ex-romantic partner. -
