TRANSPORTATION, SAFETY AND HEALTH TIPS Mexico City is a vibrant, bustling metropolis that attracts millions of visitors from across the globe every year. As with most cities, visitors should not be overly concerned with their safety, however, it is still necessary to take precautions when traveling to a new destination as a tourist.

»» Travel through the city with someone local and in groups. »» Be aware of fast moving vehicles, traffic patterns including one way streets and bus lanes. Do not assume that a green light means that it is safe to go; double check incoming traffic from all directions. »» Be on guard while moving through the airport and other crowded areas. »» Use Uber. Do not hail taxis from the street, use buses or use the STC/Metro. »» Don't travel around with valuables or large sums of money; do not take out cash from ATMs at night. »» Take it slow. Mexico City's elevation is very high at 2,200 meters above sea level; consider packing medication if you tend to experience symptoms at high altitudes. »» It's unsafe to drink tap water. When dining in restaurants, you can request free filtered water by asking for "agua de garrafon." »» Use discretion if you decide to consume street food--consult with locals before eating at particular locations, pick places that have longer lines and observe how food is being prepared, cooked and stored. »» Refrain from going out to bars or nightclubs at night on your own; travel in a group or with a local peer. »» If you ever have doubts or questions, reach out to your designated EO Mexican Brother Advisor (MBA) who will be happy to help you in any way! »» If you have an urgent need during your visit and need local assistance, please contact Yokebed Rivera at +5215525761263 or [email protected].
