Canon!Barbara!Moss,!who!served!as!Chaplain!in!the!Anglican!Church!in! Gothenburg!until!her!retirement!at!the!end!of!last!year,!used!to!say!that! one!of!the!questions!she!was!most!commonly!asked!by!members!of!the! local!Swedish!Church!was,!“How!many!people!work!at!your!Church?”! To!which!the!redoubtable!Barbara!would!reply,!“Most!of!them!”!

!

What!is!true!for!Gothenburg!is!also!true!for!Copenhagen.!Our! extraordinary!Chaplaincy!covers!an!entire!country!(albeit!a!relatively! small!one!)!and!holds!regular!services!in!four!different!locations!(a!couple! of!hundred!miles!apart!).!And!yet,!it!thrives!with!just!one!fullNtime! employee!and!a!veritable!angelic!host!of!volunteers!who!give!of!their!time! and!their!talents!to!sustain!and!grow!Anglican!witness!in!Denmark.!

As!this!Report!shows,!these!wonderful!people!were!especially!busy!in! 2015.!With!large!increases!in!numbers!attending!services,!an!expanding! electoral!roll!and!many!new!initiatives!being!undertaken,!we!have!more! reason!than!ever!to!say!a!heartNfelt!“Thank!You”!to!all!those!who!support! Purpose(and(Structure(

The!Church!Council!has!the!responsibility!of!coNoperating!with!the! Chaplain!in!promoting,!in!the!chaplaincy!area!(in!our!case!the!country!of! Denmark),!the!whole!mission!of!the!Anglican!Church:!pastoral,! evangelistic,!social!and!ecumenical.!!We!have!an!historic!church!building! at!St!Alban’s!Church!Copenhagen,!and!a!congregation!at!Aarhus.!The! Church!Council!has!maintenance!responsibilities!for!the!St!Alban’s! Church!building!and!its!grounds,!and!for!the!vicarage.!!We!are!part!of!the! Deanery!of!the!Nordics!and!Baltics,!and!of!the!Archdeaconry!of!Germany! and!Northern!Europe!(in!the!Diocese!in!Europe).!!The!Diocese!in!Europe!

This!is!the!only!committee!required!by!law.!!It!has!power!to!transact!the! business!of!the!Church!Council!between!its!meetings,!subject!to!any! directions!given!by!the!Council.!!The!membership!is:!the!Chaplain,!the! Churchwardens,!the!Church!Secretary!and!the!Hon.!Treasurer.!!The! Standing!Committee!meets!between!each!Council!meeting!and!agrees!the!

Council!agenda.!

The(Trust(Funds!

The(Princess(Viggo(Fund(for(St(Alban’s(Church!is!to!assure!the!continuance!

of!St!Alban’s!Church!by!providing!a!source!of!finance,!which!in!case!of! need!may!be!applied!to!supplement!the!normal!resources!of!the!church.!! The!board!of!trustees!is!chaired!by!the!HE!the!British!Ambassador.! The(Lindholm(Fund!is!to!support!the!maintenance!of!St!Alban’s!Church! and!the!church!choir,!and!is!chaired!by!Richard!PetersenNFormand.! The(Wendy(Vigild(Fund!is!to!support!the!training!of!Readers!and!laity!in! theological!study,!in!memory!of!the!late!Wendy!Vigild.! The(Cray(Jensen(Fund!exists!to!renew!and!maintain!the!furniture!and! equipment!of!St!Albanls!Church.!

St!Alban’s!Church!does!not!receive!any!financial!support!from!The! Church!of!England,!nor!from!the!Danish!or!British!states.!!We!are!selfN funded!by!the!generous!giving!of!the!congregation,!and!voluntary!fundN raising!events.!!We!thank!all!our!givers!–!large!and!small.!

Attendance(in(2015!

Our!main!weekly!services!at!St!Alban’s!Church!are!Holy!Communion!at! 10.30!on!Wednesdays,!and!the!Sung!Eucharist!at!10.30!on!Sundays.!! Easter!attendance!(Maundy!Thursday!to!Easter!Day)!in!2015!was!a!record! –!450!(318!in!2014!and!334!in!2013).!Christmas!attendance!(Christmas!Eve! and!Christmas!Day)!was!also!a!record!–!331!(285!in!2014!and!264!in!2013).! Sunday!Eucharist!attendance!also!grew!very!significantly!(by!over!20! percent)!from!95.6!in!2014!to!115.27!in!2015.! !

!

At!Aarhus!the!congregation!gathered!8!times!in!2015!–!seven!times!for!the! Eucharist!and!once!for!the!Christmas!Carol!service.!The!average! attendance!at!the!Eucharist!was!27,!while!over!100!people!attended!the! Carol!service.!

!

Twelve!services!–!in!each!of!both!Løget!Church,!Vejle!and!in!Jelling! Church!–!were!held!in!2015!in!conjunction!with!the!Danish!Church!and! with!the!involvement!of!Deacon!Christophe!Ndikuriyo.!The!average! attendance!in!Løget!was!29!and!the!average!in!Jelling!was!27.6.!

MISSION!AND!MINISTRY!IN!JUTLAND!

2015!was!a!very!exciting!year!for!Saint!Alban’s!ministry!in!Jutland.!After! consultation!and!careful!consideration,!the!congregation!in!Aarhus! decided!to!increase!the!number!of!services!from!five!per!year!(plus!a! Carol!Service)!to!one!service!every!month!(on!the!final!Sunday!of!the! month).!It!was!also!decided!to!change!the!time!of!worship!from!19.00!to! 18.00.!!

!

This!move!has!already!begun!to!bear!fruit!with!increased!attendances!in! 2015.!In!comparison!with!an!average!congregation!of!18!in!2013!and!24!in! 2014,!the!2015!figure!was!27.!This,!along!with!the!increased!frequency!of! services,!means!that!over!twice!as!many!people!attended!Anglican! Eucharistic!worship!at!Møllevangs!Church!in!2015!than!had!done!so!in! 2013.!Our!thanks!go!to!the!group!of!loyal!volunteers!(coNordinated!by! Angela!Hansen!and!Richard!Nichol)!who!organize!the!services!and!the! wonderful!food!and!fellowship!afterwards.!Thanks!also!to!the!Saint! Alban’s!Choir!who!travelled!to!Aarhus!in!August!(pictured!left)!to!

In!addition!to!the!Aarhus!services,!Saint!Alban’s!is!also!involved!—!in! partnership!with!the!Evangelical!Lutheran!Church!in!Denmark!—!in!the! provision!of!“international!services”!in!the!English!language!in!Løget! Kirke!(Vejle)!and!Jelling!Kirke.!Our!thanks!go!to!Deacon!Christophe! Ndikuriyo!who!coNordinates!these!services!with!Danish!Church!clergy.! “For!the!year!of!2015,!I!would!mention!the!financial!support!I!got![from!St! Alban’s]!as!contribution!to!my!studies!either!as!transportation!or!buying! books.!I!am!very!thankful!for!that!since!without!that!kind!of!support,!it!

As!a!Migrant!in!Denmark,!my!first!challenge!is!still!linked!to!the!Danish! language!since!the!language!is!the!channel!of!the!culture.!Apart!from!the! language,!my!statute!as!Deacon!also!limits!me!in!different!ways!since!I! always!need!an!Assisting!Lutheran!Pastor,!at!least!in!the!Service!for!the! Eucharist!purposeN!what!is!an!extra!effort!to!Lutheran!PastorsN!

considering!their!normal!job!description.!This!challenge!has!been!more! obvious!with!the!change!of!work!for!a!Pastor!in!Løget!as!it!took!8!months! to!employ!a!new!one.!

Contrary!to!Løget!where!the!vision!is!reaching!out!to!Migrants!with! Permission!to!live!in!Denmark,!the!vision!for!Jelling!is!offering!room!in! the!Church!to!the!Asylum!seekers!from!the!Red!Cross!Centers!of!Jelling,! Thyregod!and!Sandverd.!Consequently,!the!other!challenge!is!related!to! the!activities!within!Jelling!Church!given!the!fact!that!the!Asylum!Centers! are!normally!transitory!places.!Therefore,!it!is!difficult!to!establish!a!stable! congregation.!

!

My!humble!request!to!Saint!Alban’s!Congregation!is!on!one!hand!a!going! on!supportive!prayer!for!this!extended!Ministry.!On!the!other!hand,!I! would!request!a!visible!implication!by!allowing!a!collaboration!with!the! Choir!in!Saint!Alban!for!organizing!one!evening!concert!in!Vejle!or! Jelling.!I!hope!that!this!Concert!would!be!a!great!occasion!of!reaching!out! to!many!Anglicans!and!other!English!speakers!of!Vejle!and!Jelling! without!ignoring!the!other!surrounding!areas!of!the!two!places.!!!

The!Church!Council!met!eleven!times!in!2015.!!The!Standing!Committee,! comprising!the!Chaplain,!two!Church!Wardens,!the!Treasurer,!and! Secretary,!met!as!and!when!needed,!usually!one!week!before!the!council.!! The!main!issues!and!decisions!of!the!2015!Council!are!outlined!below:!

The!Communications!Team’s!social!media!policy!was!agreed.! The!Pilling!report!on!Human!Sexuality!was!discussed,!in!order!to! provide!feedback!to!the!Deanery!Synod.! The!lack!of!a!Safeguarding!Officer!was!a!concern.! The!new!security!system!was!explained,!with!a!keypad!system,!extra! cameras!and!automatic!lights.! The!arrangements!for!the!hosting!of!the!general!meeting!for!the! National!Council!of!Churches!in!Denmark!were!agreed.! The!activities!to!make!the!Annual!Report!for!2014!were!agreed.! The!draft!accounts!for!2014!and!the!budget!for!2015!were!reviewed.! The!Fête!for!2015!(22nd!August)!was!discussed.! The!activities!to!complete!the!Annual!Report!and!the!Annual!Church! Meeting!(26th!April)!were!arranged.! The!issue!of!postal!voting!was!raised!and!a!motion!passed!to!bring! the!issue!to!the!ACM.! The!first!Sunday!each!month!as!a!“Family!Service!with!Baptism”,! with!more!involvement!by!the!younger!people!in!the!congregation! was!discussed.!

The!handing!over!of!the!treasurer!role!was!discussed.! The!new!Guardians’!Season!and!the!possibility!of!a!new!piece!of! furniture!for!the!Guardians!were!discussed.!

The!arrangements!for!organizing!the!Summer!Fête!and!the!ability!to!

accept!nonNchurch!organisations!having!stalls!at!the!fête!were!agreed.! The!Århus!services!were!discussed.!It!was!agreed!to!hold!them!more! regularly!and!at!a!slightly!earlier!time!of!18:00,!rather!than!19:00.!

There!would!be!a!series!of!concerts,!mostly!on!Sunday!afternoons.!

The!piece!of!furniture!for!the!guardians!was!discussed.! It!was!agreed!that!St!Alban’s!would!be!put!on!the!local!churches! publications!list,!so!that!the!services!would!be!listed!in!Berlingske! Tidende!and!Jylland!Post.!

Easter!Services!were!reviewed!and!those!for!Pentecost!(left)!planned.! Ideas!for!increasing!the!churchls!capacity!were!discussed.! Two!people!had!agreed!to!perform!Safeguarding!roles.! The!need!to!find!a!new!person!to!fulfill!the!role!of!Childrenls!Ministry! CoNordinator!was!aired.!

It!was!agreed!to!invite!Claire!Wesley,!an!expert!on!Childrenls! Ministry!in!the!diocese,!to!run!a!weekend!training!for!teachers.! An!advert!for!a!new!CoNordinator!of!Music!Ministry!and!Organist! was!discussed,!as!Iain!would!be!leaving!on!St!Albanls!Day.! The!A.G.M.!of!the!Danish!Council!of!Churches!was!discussed.!

Colin!Hunt!was!elected!treasurer!for!the!council!for!2015.! Jane!Passant!and!John!Nicholson!were!appointed!to!the!combined! roles!of!Safeguarding!Officer,!Safeguarding!ID!Checker!and! Safeguarding!Champion,!keeping!the!first!two!separate,!but!the!last! being!able!to!be!performed!by!either!of!the!other!roles.! Chris!Parker!was!appointed!Lay!Vice!Chairman!for!2015.! The!first!event!had!been!run!by!the!concert!coNordination!team!and! more!volunteers!were!sought.!

The!piece!of!furniture!for!the!guardians!was!discussed!in!detail.! The!progress!of!the!fête!planning!was!reviewed.! The!plan!to!produce!final!accounts!for!2014!was!discussed.!A!Special! Church!Meeting!(SCM)!would!have!to!be!held.! A!name!for!the!special!Pentecost!event!had!been!found:!“Many! Voices,!One!Spirit”;!the!logistics!of!the!event!were!agreed.! The!church!policy!statement!on!safeguarding!was!agreed.! The!post!of!organist!had!received!applications;!the!interview! arrangements!were!agreed.!
