Dear :

Almost every day, I have the joy of learning about a gift that has been received to help children in the care of Nemours. My heart warms when I think of the impulse that moved a donor to make that commitment.

The Nemours Fund for Children’s Health accepts thousands of gifts each year—through the mail, over the internet, in a bequest or sometimes from the donor’s own hand when they come to visit us. Whether the contribution is small or significant, I know that it was given not only because that individual or organization cares, but also because they have confidence in the ability of Nemours to help restore and improve the health of children.

Support from donors helps Nemours improve patient care, provide facilities that are attractive and comfortable for children and families, advance life-saving biomedical research, and strengthen innovative prevention and education programs. And because of Mr. duPont’s Trust, 100 percent of each dollar contributed goes to help children.

Donors have many choices for giving to help children. Some contributors choose to support research to find better treatments for children with leukemia. Others direct their gift to a specific clinical area such as orthopedics or cardiac care, or to help improve facilities. Many donors just ask us to use their gift to meet the most urgent needs of children.

However you choose to give, whatever the amount you contribute, your gift is incredibly important to children and their families. They may never know your name—just that someone cared.

Sincerely,

Lori J. Counts, CFRE Managing Director Nemours Fund for Children’s Health

L403602_NFCH AR-R.indd 16 8/10/10 9:36 AM Gifts From the Heart

Kids are still kids, even though they may be hospitalized or receiving outpatient treatments such as chemotherapy. Toys, board games, DVDs, books, craft supplies, video games, dolls, new stuffed animals and other items go a long way towards helping children stay happy and occupied during days, weeks or even months in the hospital.

Our Child Life Specialists help children cope with their hospital experience by using toys, games, crafts and activities to relieve stress and provide a distraction from medical tests and treatments.

Individuals, churches, schools, corporations, civic associations and other groups often donate these items. We are most grateful for their thoughtfulness and generosity.

Visit Nemours.org/give to see a complete list of items appropriate for donation to Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware or Nemours Children’s Clinic locations in Florida.

Please direct questions to the Nemours Fund for Children’s Health at 302- 651-4828 or [email protected].

The Auxiliary of the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children

Since its founding in 1985, the Auxiliary of the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has made a significant impact on the well-being of families and children through their many gifts of time and resources.

The Auxiliary, 100 members strong, operates The Red Balloon Gift Shop, which offers a wealth of gifts, toys, games and other items. All proceeds from the Shop, a favorite stop for families and Nemours staff alike, are donated to the Hospital, as are funds raised from book sales, fudge sales and other events.

Auxilians staff the Hospital’s Family Resource Center, Admissions Service and a twice-daily Hospitality Hour that offers complimentary refreshments to families. Children become more familiar with the hospital through the Auxiliary’s Hospital Awareness Program.

In the last 25 years, Auxiliary members have contributed more than 225,000 hours of service and $600,000 to meet the needs of children and families, such as new furniture for waiting areas or a generous gift to help build the Family Resource Center. Our Auxilians are also very proud of the Financial Assistance Fund, which offers help to families with expenses such as transportation, utility bills or other urgent needs during their child’s illness and hospitalization.

Global pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is more than just a close neighbor of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. It is a generous and involved friend. The company’s transformational $1 million gift in 2009 to support the hospital’s planned expansion is the latest example of its partnership with Nemours.

“The Hospital is such an important resource for families,” says Rich Fante, President US and RVP North America for AstraZeneca. As a parent of three- year-old twins, I can tell you that it is a great comfort to know that world-class medical treatment is available so close to home.”

The company has been a generous sponsor of A Night at Nemours for all five years the black-tie event has been held. Through AstraZeneca’s Healthcare Heroes program, volunteers presented “Shadow Buddies” dolls to the Hospital’s Child Life program. These dolls help children understand their medical conditions and provide a special friend.

In 2009, a gift from AstraZeneca made possible The Body Theater, a video display located in a busy waiting area of the hospital. It shows three hours of engaging child-oriented content including video, games, quizzes and mystery pictures in both English and Spanish to help children and their families gain a better understanding of asthma.

Nemours Fund for Children’s Health is grateful to AstraZeneca and its employees for caring so much about children and their health.
