It is bounded by Koria on the north, Anuppur and Dhindori district of Madhya Pradesh on the north-west, Mungeli on the west and south west, Baloda Bazar on the south, Korba district on the east and Jangir-Champa on the south-east. The area of the district is about 5818.49 km 2.
