Community Profile – Ynyswen, Treorchy and Cwmparc
Community Profile – Ynyswen, Treorchy and Cwmparc Version 5 – will be updated and reviewed next on 29.05.20 Treorchy is a town and electoral ward in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf in the Rhondda Fawr valley. Treorchy is one of the 16 communities that make up the Rhondda. Treorchy is bordered by the villages of Cwmparc and Ynyswen which are included within the profile. The population is 7,694, 4,404 of which are working age. Treorchy has a thriving high street with many shops and cafes and is in the running as one of the 3 Welsh finalists for Highs Street of the Year award. There are 2 large supermarkets and an Treorchy High Street industrial estate providing local employment. There is also a High school with sixth form Cwmparc Community Centre opportunities for young people in the area Cwmparc is a village and district of the community of Treorchy, 0.8 miles from Treorchy. It is more of a residential area, however St Georges Church Hall located in Cwmparc offers a variety of activities for the community, including Yoga, playgroup and history classes. Ynyswen is a village in the community of Treorchy, 0.6 miles north of Treorchy. It consists mostly of housing but has an industrial estate which was once the site of the Burberry’s factory, one shop and the Forest View Medical Centre. Although there are no petrol stations in the Treorchy area, transport is relatively good throughout the valley. However, there is no Sunday bus service in Cwmparc. Treorchy has a large population of young people and although there are opportunities to engage with sport activities it is evident that there are fewer affordable activities for young women to engage in. -

Pressure from families of service personnel killed in Iraq eventually hastened the protracted process, which commenced in 2009, six years after the invasion of Iraq led by the United States with prominent UK support. Reg Keys, whose son, Tom, age 20 years, was one of six Military Police killed in southern Iraq in June 2003, has consistently campaigned for justice for those who died in this unnecessary war. -
People, Places and Policy
People, Places and Policy Set within the context of UK devolution and constitutional change, People, Places and Policy offers important and interesting insights into ‘place-making’ and ‘locality-making’ in contemporary Wales. Combining policy research with policy-maker and stakeholder interviews at various spatial scales (local, regional, national), it examines the historical processes and working practices that have produced the complex political geography of Wales. This book looks at the economic, social and political geographies of Wales, which in the context of devolution and public service governance are hotly debated. It offers a novel ‘new localities’ theoretical framework for capturing the dynamics of locality-making, to go beyond the obsession with boundaries and coterminous geog- raphies expressed by policy-makers and politicians. Three localities – Heads of the Valleys (north of Cardiff), central and west coast regions (Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and the former district of Montgomeryshire in Powys) and the A55 corridor (from Wrexham to Holyhead) – are discussed in detail to illustrate this and also reveal the geographical tensions of devolution in contemporary Wales. This book is an original statement on the making of contemporary Wales from the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods (WISERD) researchers. It deploys a novel ‘new localities’ theoretical framework and innovative mapping techniques to represent spatial patterns in data. This allows the timely uncovering of both unbounded and fuzzy relational policy geographies, and the more bounded administrative concerns, which come together to produce and reproduce over time Wales’ regional geography. Bettisfield Moss Trail The Bettisfield Moss Trail To explore Bettisfield Moss follow the brown tourism signs from the Ellesmere to Whitchurch (A495), the Whitchurch to Wem (B5476) or Wem to Welshampton roads (B5063), to the World’s End car park (SJ 48033482, SY13 2QE), situated at the end of the second road on the right, coming west from Dobson’s Bridge, Whixall. The trail can also be accessed from Moss Lane off Cadney Lane, Bettisfield, and from the east along the Shropshire Way loop no 23. The trail is 2 km (1½ miles) long and takes about hour to walk. The route is marked by a series © Crown Copyright: Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales. Ref 94-CS-1688 04 10. 12.03.1994 of arrowed posts, and is level and easy to walk, Bettisfield Moss covered by forest in 1994 but often wet so wear wellingtons or stout footwear. Memorandum on the Economy and Transport Draft Budget Proposals for 2021-22 Economy, Infrastructure and Skills Committee – 20 January 2021 1.0 Introduction This paper provides information on the Economy & Transport (E&T) budget proposals as outlined in the 2021-22 Draft Budget published on 21 December 2020. It also provides an update on specific areas of interest to the Committee. 2.0 Strategic Context / Covid Impacts Aligned to Prosperity for All and the Well Being and Future Generations Act, the Economic Action Plan is the guiding policy and strategy document for all of Welsh Government’s activities. The 2021-22 plan builds on the considerable progress in implementing and embedding key elements of the plan, involving engagement with a range of stakeholders, particularly the business community and social partners. The pathway to Welsh economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic builds on the foundations of Prosperity for All: The Economic Action Plan. This shaped an economic development programme which invests in people and businesses - driving prosperity and reducing inequality across all of Wales. The mission builds on the early progress we have made in raising the profile and challenges in the Foundational Economy, recognising there is more to be done to spread and scale the approach. Other key initiatives, including Prosperity for All: A Low Carbon Wales, Cymraeg 2050, the Employability Delivery Plan and our Fair Work agenda, run through all interventions. The Well-being of Future Generations Act and its wider framework continue to provide a uniquely Welsh way of tackling the long-term challenges that our people and our planet face. -
