Have you heard the buzz? AHB is debuting an exciting new online tool to help you take advantage of our community’s creative abundance. We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming arrival of our new community cultural platform, Currents Online. The website will ofcially launch in June 2019. Read more about all the ways Currents Online will energize your experience of the Over arts and humanities in this issue of Currents Magazine. 30 YEARS Our Arts in Education Program continues to grow, broadening its reach and bringing new OF PROMOTING participants into the program with each school year. Arts in Ed connects public school classroom THE ARTS & HUMANITIES! teachers at all grade levels with local artists and helps them collaboratively design unique AHB PROGRAMS, residencies that infuse arts education into the core curriculum. This year one of our newest SERVICES & EVENTS teaching artists, Teresa Marchinek, brought a Readers Theater to the Odyssey Multiage Program, Amy delighting participants and strengthening students’ communication and public speaking skills. Award Experiences like these expand student learning in amazing ways. According to Woodward Arts in Middle School Teacher Erin McCallum, students who participated in Arts in Ed “gained a deeper Education understanding of human beings and an increased awareness of self and others.” Public Art Committee AHB’s Public Art Committee is also hard at work on exciting projects. Something New, PAC’s Directors annually rotating outdoor sculpture exhibition, is entering its second year and is in the process Forum of selecting new works of art to refresh the Winslow corridor. We’re excited to introduce two new Cultural sculptures to Bainbridge Island this summer. Reps Currents 2019 promises to be a landmark year for Arts & Humanities Bainbridge and for the island’s cultural Magazine sector as a whole. Our community’s rich creative culture is an essential piece of what draws people to Bainbridge Island and why many choose to make this place their home. There’s something special about the way the arts blossom here. However, we know it can be hard to keep abreast of everything that’s happening in the cultural sector - exhibitions, concerts, classes, plays, lectures, art walks, flm screenings, poetry readings, and more. And with such a diversity of galleries, museums, nonproft organizations, and creative individuals active in our community, sometimes seeing the forest for the trees can be a challenge. But we believe there’s something invaluable about tapping into the island’s creative spirit. We also believe that it should be easier to do. That’s why Arts & Humanities Bainbridge is introducing Currents Online. Starting in June, Currents Online will make it possible for the frst time to experience the full breadth and depth of Bainbridge Island’s creative culture in one easy-to-use resource. The Bainbridge Island Studio Tour ABOUT THE STUDIO TOUR: The Studio Tour is a twice-annual self-guided art show held in local artists’ studios and gardens, the second weekend in August and the frst weekend in December. PATTY GRAZINI, Kids Shoes, 2018, 1920s Japanese scroll paper and hand dyed papers, 9.5”h x 6.5”w x 6.5”d. PATTY GRAZINI: Forms of Devotion Patty Grazini, from Seattle, presents several series of paper sculptures transporting the viewer to a fantastical and sometimes forgotten world. Her work intertwines intriguing and eccentric narratives from history with detail, depth and devotion. Grazini cuts and sculpts fne found and hand-dyed papers from Europe and Asia. Her most recent series is constructed with paper currency from all over the world to portray intricate scenes from nature. A solo exhibition, Patty Grazini: Forms of Devotion, features over twenty works, including pieces from private collections and recent works. We are excited, as well, to present the premieres of two works by local composers: The frst, titled You’ll Find Me, was written by Genevieve Persen. Hand in Hand is Here to Stay Persen, who is a member of the Chorale as well as a composer, says of this work: “This piece is written for Mary Kouyoumdjian, a composer and a close friend, who suddenly lost her fancé, Matt Marks, a year ago, on May 11, 2018.
