Grand Master Hun Yuan taught: Wang Chan Lao Chu, in the world of tai chi, called “Wang Chan Lao Chu.” In the Warring States period, he was called Guiguzi. He had 108 disciples. Strategists Su, Zhang Yi, military strategist Sun Bin, Pang Juan, Japanese immortal Xu Fu, the elixir Mao Meng, orator Mao Sui, etc were born in that time. Guiguzi was also the descendant of the Yellow Emperor. His wisdom is a major stop in Chinese cultural journey, from the Yellow Emperor culture to the present sciences, humanities, education and so on. He cultivated himself to be an immortal, named Guigu. Guiguzi incarnated and reborn as Wan Xu in Linzhang County, Hebei Province, China, commonly known as Wang Xu. In the growth process, he had been brought to Suzhou to study the culture of martial art. Through Spiritual enlightenment, called Guiguzi, hailed as “Sage Xuan Feng Yong Zhen.” Weixin Shengjiao worships Sage Wang Chan Lao Chu at the headquarters and its branch sites. Today Wang Chan Lao Chu and the founder of Weixin Shengjiao Grand Master Hun Yuan united. Grand Master Hun Yuan taught: “During the decline of Dharma, people feel uneasy, so the merciful Grand master of Taiwan ancestor in the invisible - 53 - The New Religion of the World Taiwan Weixin Shengjiao world respectfully invited the Sage Gui Gu Immortal Master Wan Chan Lao Chu to descend and to instruct his Dharma: I Ching Fen Shui Studies. Grand Master Hun Yuan’s instruction is just like a union of Heaven and humans. The mind is the from it. He also merged Buddhism, Taoism and other various religious thoughts with I Ching. Thus, it is a representation of Guiguzi’s Dharma.” Grand Master Hun Yuan also taught: “Guiguzi’s wisdom is big without outer, and inner without fineness.” He added, “Guiguzi is human and also a Dharma. He is the light in the darkness of life. He is everywhere and nowhere. Fate (yuan) is decided in the moment of enlightenment. His Dharma is ineffable and incredible.” Grand Master Hun Yuan taught: It includes the wisdom of cultivating oneself, regulating oneself family, governing country and ruling the world. It is spread by the Grand Master Hun Yuan in Taiwan. It is more than just about war, diplomatics and politics but it is a beacon of merciful salvation. It includes eighty-four thousand Dharmas. In Taiwan, there are immeasurable plights. He saved countless crowds so that he made people’s life full of hope. Guiguzi’s great wisdom has spread from China, glowing everywhere in the and shined over every corner of the world, which cannot be understood by ordinary people. His merits are as respectable as heaven. Whether the peace between the cross-straits or world peace, all should rely on Guiguzi wisdom in order to successfully realize wishes.” - 54 -.

Mair with a complete transcription and word-for-word glosses of the Manchu translation by H. T. Toh Victor H. Mair, Editor Sino-Platonic Papers Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, PA 19104-6305 USA [email protected] www.sino-platonic.org SINO-PLATONIC PAPERS is an occasional series edited by Victor H. Mair. The purpose of the series is to make available to specialists and the interested public the results of research that, because of its unconventional or controversial nature, might otherwise go unpublished. The editor actively encourages younger, not yet well established, scholars and independent authors to submit manuscripts for consideration. Contributions in any of the major scholarly languages of the world, including Romanized Modern Standard Mandarin (MSM) and Japanese, are acceptable. In special circumstances, papers written in one of the Sinitic topolects (fangyan) may be considered for publication. Although the chief focus of Sino-Platonic Papers is on the intercultural relations of China with other peoples, challenging and creative studies on a wide variety of philological subjects will be entertained. This series is not the place for safe, sober, and stodgy presentations. Sino-Platonic Papers prefers lively work that, while taking reasonable risks to advance the field, capitalizes on brilliant new insights into the development of civilization. The only style-sheet we honor is that of consistency. Where possible, we prefer the usages of the Journal of Asian Studies.

  • True Lies, Successful Formulas, and Yet Other Notions in Believed Announcement Logic, and Also the Iteration of Such Announcements
True Lies Thomas Agotnes˚ ,∗ Hans van Ditmarsch,† Yanjing Wang‡ August 20, 2018 Abstract A true lie1 is a lie that becomes true when announced. In a logic of announce- ments, where the announcing agent is not modelled, a true lie is a formula (that is false and) that becomes true when announced. We investigate true lies and other types of interaction between announced formulas, their preconditions and their postcon- ditions, in the setting Gerbrandy’s logic of believed announcements, wherein agents may have or obtain incorrect beliefs. Our results are on the satisfiability and validity of instantiations of these semantically defined categories, on iterated announcements, including arbitrarily often iterated announcements, and on syntactic characterization. We close with results for iterated announcements in the logic of knowledge (instead of belief), and for lying as private announcements (instead of public announcements) to different agents. Detailed examples illustrate our lying concepts. 1 Introduction Pang Juan was an ancient Chinese military general of the Wei state during the Warring States period. Both he and Sun Bin studied under the tutelage of arXiv:1606.08333v2 [cs.AI] 27 Apr 2017 the hermit Guiguzi, but later led the opposing armies of two countries (resp.) Wei and Qi at war. Ambushed by Qi, the Wei army suffered a crushing defeat and Pang Juan committed suicide. In traditional folklore, Sun Bin carved the words “Pang Juan dies under this tree” on a tree at the ambush area. When Pang and his men arrived, he saw that there were carvings on the tree so he lit a torch for a closer look.

  • Persuasion in Chinese Culture: a Glimpse of the Ancient Practice in Contrast to the West*
Intercultural Communication Studies XIV: 1 2005 Ling Chen Persuasion in Chinese Culture: A Glimpse of the Ancient Practice in Contrast to the West* Ling Chen Hong Kong Baptist University Documented Study and Practice in Chinese History Throughout Chinese history, there are ample records on persuasive communication practices at different times, especially those in the Pre-Chin Autumn-Spring and Warring States period (770-250BCD). According to the history, this was a time where persuaders (shuike meishi) traveled from state to state, recommending themselves to the ruler or the lord of the land. Aided by eloquent talks and persuasive speeches, they presented to the rulers their ideas on political strategization. Youshui (traveling around to persuade) and jinjian (offering opinions to the ruler to do the right) have since become part of the long tradition in Chinese politics. In spite of the prevalence of such practice, there is no available documentation on the study of this practice as a scholarly subject. It defies the common sense that in the over two thousand years of Chinese civilization, no scholars had paid attention to this most basic of all communication practice. In fact, ancient scholars (up to 280AD) had devoted extensive and intensive study to the practice of persuasion, although it was not a direct subject of inquiry, but exclusively studied as part of some other subjects, such as politics and government, or philosophy. Indeed, one of the ancient schools of Chinese philosophy, known as mingbian (name argument) scholars, stands to testimony of the academic interest in persuasion by ancient scholars (Hou, et. al.
