Therefore, a study is been conducted to detect changes of coastline caused by both processes at Carey Island-Morib coast. Geospatial technology that involved the use of GIS and satellite imagery had been apply in this study. Data sources are topography map of 1974 and SPOT image of 2008. The results show that coastal erosion process was dominant in Carey Island, while deposition process was the case for Morib coast. The average value of eroded distance is higher than the average value of deposited distance, which is 170 and 157 m, respectively. Coastal erosion process in Carey Island could be relate to the movement of big ships along Malacca Strait and Port Klang that is capable of producing big waves and eroding energy. Meanwhile deposition process in Morib coast could be relate to the transfer of land sediment to the estuary and along the coast by low-energy wave. These findings should be support with fieldwork study that could verify the effectiveness of coastal geomorphologic agents and the impact of human activities on land in influencing the changes of coastline in Carey Island-Morib coasts. Keywords: Coastline; dynamic landscape; Selangor; Malaysia ABSTRAK Kawasan pesisiran pantai merupakan salah satu landskap yang sangat dinamik di mana proses hakisan dan pemendapan sentiasa berlaku. Oleh itu, satu kajian telah dijalankan untuk mengesan perubahan garis pantai yang disebabkan oleh kedua-dua proses di pantai Pulau Carey-Morib. Teknologi geospatial yang melibatkan penggunaan GIS dan satelit imej telah digunakan dalam kajian ini. Sumber data adalah peta topografi tahun 1974 dan imejSPOT 2008. Keputusan menunjukkan bahawa proses hakisan pantai adalah dominan di Pulau Carey, manakala proses pemendapan berlaku untuk pantai Morib. Nilai purata jarak terhakis adalah lebih tinggi daripada nilai purata jarak didepositkan iaitu 170 dan 157 m masing-masing. Proses hakisan pantai di Pulau Carey boleh dikaitkan dengan pergerakan kapal-kapal besar di sepanjang Selat Melaka dan Pelabuhan Klang yang mampu menghasilkan ombak besar dan tenaga menghakis. Sementara proses pemendapan di pantai Morib boleh dikaitkan dengan pemindahan sedimen tanah kepada muara dan di sepanjang pantai oleh gelombang tenaga rendah. Penemuan ini perlu disokong dengan kajian kerja lapangan yang boleh mengesahkan keberkesanan ejen geomorphologik pantai dan impak aktiviti manusia ke atas tanah dalam mempengaruhi perubahan garis pantai di pantai Pulau Carey-Morib. According to a report prepared by the Department of Environment, Sungai Selangor river basin is listed as one of the two cleanest rivers in Selangor (Environmental Quality Report, 1996). This river is highlighted here not because of its important food and water resources but of its ecotourism factor.

He said the port city project, which is still in the planning stages, was a vital part of the Government’s effort to further boost the country’s position as the top hub in the region. “We will have a port city there, not just a port. It will give a boost to Carey Island, and this is our long-term plan,” he told the media at the launch of Pikom’s 9th Leadership Summit 2017, yesterday. The Carey Island Port is a massive port-industrial city project with infrastructure investments of more than RM200bil covering an area of over 100sq km – more than twice the size of Putrajaya. It was announced in January. Liow said the Government must start now or risk being left behind by other ports in the region. “We cannot be satisfied with the current 30 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of container cargo. Carey Island will carry an additional capacity of 30 million TEUs. “At the moment, both Northport and Westport can only handle 30 million TEUs so we need to implement the project as soon as possible,” he said. Liow, who is also the National Logistics Task Force chairman, said the development of Carey Island will cover more than 5,000 acres (2,000ha) off Port Klang, aimed at managing the traffic shipment across Asia. “We are hoping to draw cargo shipments from southern Thailand, and Sumatra in Indonesia to strengthen Port Klang’s position as the biggest hub in the region,” he said.

In early 2017, Port Klang Authority (PKA) had announced existing ports in the area will reach maximum capacity by 2025. • In April 2017, MMC Corporation Bhd has signed two agreements: (1) The first one with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) to conduct a feasibility study of Carey Island as an extension of Port Klang; and (2) Second MoU with Sime Darby Property Bhd and APSEZ to study the feasibility of developing an integrated maritime city in Carey Island. • In July 2018, another feasibility study under new administration will be independently conducted and commissioned by Port Klang Authority (PKA). As of now, previous government had not issued approval for the Carey Port. The building stands 3 storeys high and is to be made the heart of the entire development of Sg. Sedu Estate (Main Division). The building is specially designed with local cultural heritage features and also being built on soft ground. Soil improvement works were carried out on the site as the site was founded on soft marine clay. All infrastructure works were also designed to suit the ground condition. Structurally the new District Office is founded on pile foundation and built with precast slabs and wall, beams and columns throughout the building. Upon nearing completion, the new District Office was awarded The Nippon Paint Design Award for Architectural Coating 2006.
