Obsahová i tematická rovina takovýchto fik čních seriál ů, sérií a televizních film ů je r ůznorodá, a ť už reflektující široké spektrum spole čensky rezonujících témat, či nám ětů veskrze všeobecn ě protežovaných ve všech sférách kultury a spole čnosti. Naprostá v ětšina (nejen) televizní fik ční tvorby má ovšem spole čnou jednu vlastnost, a sice heteronormativní zarámování. V oblasti televizní fik ční seriálové tvorby, která je p ředm ětem této magisterské diplomové práce, výše uvedené tvrzení dokládá fakt existence pouze cca jedenácti fik čních seriál ů1, které nejsou podle mého názoru za řaditelné do kategorie heteronormativních seriál ů a sérií. 2 I pro svou jedine čnost a s ohledem na zjišt ění získaná b ěhem vzniku bakalá řské diplomové práce Tři etapy zobrazování LGBT postav v TV seriálech a sériích 3 jsem se proto rozhodla v ěnovat tuto práci tzv. stand point seriál ům. Cílem této magisterské diplomové práce nazvané Stand point seriály v kontextu amerického a britského TV vysílání: konstrukce LGBTQ identit v rámci dominantního ne-heteronormativního diskurzu je p ředevším vysv ětlit detailn ěji podstatu seriál ů, které ozna čuji pojmem stand point 4, a odlišit je obsahov

    CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION Background of the Study Language is one of the important aspects in communication. Without it we would probably have difficulties delivering our message. Language makes everything easier. Moreover, we live in the world with many countries, many cultures and, of course, many languages on it. Generally speaking, someone’s speech can be influenced by many factors, such as social factors. Social factors include age, gender, ethnic group, and social class. Gender, rather than sex, will be the key point of this thesis. ‘‘Sex’ refers to a biological distinction, whereas ‘gender’ is the term used to describe socially constructed categories based on sex’. (Coates 1993:3) In this thesis I deal with the different varieties of language which are used by men in their speech. When women speak, there is a difference in diction. Another difference is that women usually use lexical hedges; while men do not. In sociolinguistics we learn about different types of language used by men and by women; furthermore, there is a specific term for the type of language spoken by women, namely women’s language. There is no such term as men’s language. Still, I believe it would be out of the ordinary and challenging if we could find the anomalies of language use. To show the anomalies of language use, I have chosen television series Queer as Folk as the source of data. Queer As Folk is a Showtime Networks television 1 series. It is about a homosexual community in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition, I choose the American version of Queer As Folk since it has become a great, number one television series in America.

As this culture has become pro and contra over American regarding their point of view, ethically or unethically, thus, it has been spread all over the world through media, particularly television, which makes it unique and essential to observe through the television series, gay characters appear with certain features attached to them. This study concentrates on the depiction of gay shown through American gay television series in 2000s. By focusing on how and why the friendship is portrayed through the gay television series, this study incorporates semiotic approach to identify the friendship among gay shown by the American gay television series in 2000s. The observation of the gay television series have revealed that friendship among gay people plays a significant role in gay culture. The research findings show that the depiction of friendship through the gay TV series symbolizes similar values and vision shared among gay people in order to reach solidarity. Additionally, strong friendship as a binding value is always the feature shown by oppressed minority groups in a society.
