(Spain) H.M.R. 078 (1999), Part II (2001), “Mud On The Tires” (2003), TAKE FIVE / GONZALES / SPLASH / SURF SAMBA / “Time Well Wasted” (2005), “Christmas” (2006), “5th VENUS / BUDA‟S TAVERN / WAITING FOR THE TRAIN / Gear” (2007) and “American Saturday Night” (2009) – if JEZABEL / THE FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLE BEE / they‟re half as good as this, worth tracking down! This is essentially the soundtrack, and follows the recent penchant for releasing compilations of previously issued material. These tracks are culled from various Los Jets albums, and are highly recommended, especially if you don‟t have the „source‟ albums. This is a guitar album, through and FAR FROM THE CLYDE / PIPER TO THE END through. Lots of western swing, jazz, Travis / Atkins This is an ALL VOCAL CD (I know, this is an pickin‟ – all tastefully done. From the jazzy reading of Sy Instrumental newsletter!) but Mark is a fantastic guitar Oliver‟s “Opus One” to “The Flintstones Theme”, this a player, with a unique style. This album is t reflective, hoot! Tracks 6-13 were recorded live at The Cellar Door, sombre, and delicate, with shades of the “Local Hero” Washington D.C. on 30 December 1978 – wish I‟d been soundtrack – one of the true “classics”. There‟s a touch there! But wait, there‟s more – at the end of the CD of that Celtic feel from the film, but overall, lots of that there‟s a promo for Ibanez Guitars at “Giant Music”! special Knopfler guitar. I love it! THE VENTURES & THE (FABULOUS) WAILERS “TWO CAR GARAGE” BLUE HORIZON (US) BH 100-1 I HEAR YOU KNOCKIN‟ KEEP A KNOCKIN‟ / SURF RIDER (aka SPUDNICK) / REBEL-ROUSER / WAILIN‟ / OUT OF OUR TREE / LET‟S GO / TEQUILA / NEEDLES 2 AND PINS / BEAT GUITAR / DIRTY ROBBER / WILD WEEKEND / CALIFORNIA SUN / TALL COOL ONE / WHEN YOU WALK IN THE ROOM / WIPE OUT / ROAD RUNNER / BLACK IS BLACK / LOUIE LOUIE A slightly unusual release, and hard to get, for some reason. Most of the tracks are Ventures / Wailers standards, some by the Ventures, some by the Wailers, and a few with members of both groups. About half of the tracks are vocals(!) and saxophone features prominently (which won‟t please all) but this is good departure from the norm. On the Ventures side, Bob Bogle, Gerry, Nokie, Bob Spaulding (as it‟s spelt in the sleeve notes) and Don all take turns on lead guitar, and do a good job. I thought the Wailers tracks („Wailin‟, „Tall Cool One‟ and „Road Runner‟ (all covered by the Ventures) may be done by both groups, but these are new versions by the Wailers. Poolcasting acts like a disc jockey, determining and delivering songs that satisfy its audience. Satisfying an entire audience is not an easy task, especially when members of the group have heterogeneous preferences and can join and leave the group at different times. The approach of poolcasting consists in selecting songs iteratively, in real time, favouring those members who are less satisfied by the previous songs played. Poolcasting additionally ensures that the played sequence does not repeat the same songs or artists closely and that pairs of consecutive songs ‘flow’ well one after the other, in a musical sense. Good disc jockeys know from expertise which songs sound well in sequence; poolcasting obtains this knowledge from the analysis of playlists shared on the Web. The more two songs occur closely in playlists, the more poolcasting considers two songs as associated, in accordance with the human experiences expressed through playlists. Combining this knowl- edge and the music profiles of the listeners, poolcasting autonomously generates sequences that are varied, musically smooth and fairly adapted for a particular audience. A natural application for poolcasting is automating radio pro- grammes. Many online radios broadcast on each channel a random sequence of songs that is not affected by who is listening.

    EDITION #20 – September 2008 SPECIAL "SHADOZ" ISSUE!! "Shadoz 2008" marked our 6th anniversary, as well as the 50th anniversary of Cliff and The Shadows. Yet another new venue, and, from all reports the best yet. On a sad note, we recently lost one of our Shadoz friends, Don Hill. Don played drums for Harry's Webb and The Vikings last year, and was one of the 'stalwarts' of Shadoz in recent times. R.I.P. Don. TONY KIEK (Keyboards) and GEORGE LEWIS (Guitar) were fresh from a tour of the UK, where they appeared at a number of Shadows clubs. They were gracious enough to help out by filling the 'dreaded' opening spot. Their set was a wonderful introduction to the day, and they featured some great sounds with WONDERFUL LAND / FANDANGO (with WALTZING MATILDA intro) / DANCES WITH WOLVES / THING-ME-JIG / RODRIGO'S CONCERTO / GOING HOME (THEME FROM 'LOCAL HERO') / THE SAVAGE / SPRING IS NEARLY HERE Whilst Tony and George travelled down from Sydney, no less a feat were the next band, who have travelled from overseas – Phillip Island! - ROB WATSON (Bass) was formerly with Melbourne group "The Avengers", TONY MERCER (Lead Guitar) also played with various Melbourne groups before "retiring" to the island and forming "SHAZAM", MIKE McCABE (Rhythm) worked in England in the 60's with "Hardtack", MARTY SAUNDERS (Drums) played with the popular showband "Out To Lunch" amongst others, and JEFF CULLEN (Lead vocals and rhythm guitar) sang with The Aztecs in Sydney before Billy Thorpe, then with The Rat Finks. A nice mix of Shads and non-Shads numbers included ADVENTURES IN PARADISE / MAN OF MYSTERY / ATLANTIS / THE CRUEL SEA / THE RISE AND FALL OF FLINGEL BUNT / GENIE WITH THE LIGHT BROWN LAMP / IT'S A MAN'S WORLD / THE SAVAGE / CINCINNATTI FIREBALL (voc) / LOVE POTION NO.9 (voc) / THE WANDERER (voc) / THE STRANGER / WALK DON'T RUN One of the joys of "Shadoz" is the ability to welcome newcomers to our shindig.
