WELCOME from your Executive CONTENTS Happy 2018. A new year is great starting point for new opportunities. But, be- fore we forget about 2017, I thought it would be a good idea to look back at the year and mention a handful of highlights. Welcome 1 100th Anniversary: Obviously, the biggest was the 100th Anniversary of the Upcoming Events 2 Council. When we first started discussing this milestone a few years ago, I looked around to find what other councils who have turned 100 had done to celebrate. Council News 3-4 The one thing that became clear is that there aren’t many other “100 year old’s” out there. Sure, we aren’t the only ones, but we are in the minority when it Quick News 5-6 comes to having this much tenure. We looked back on these years through spe- cial events such as the Appreciation Dinner and the Eagle Brunch. Through the Video Spotlight 7 work of Paul Lewis, the first volume of council history was published.

I am proud to say our leaders responded and we have one of the highest percentages in the Central Region. 9 Dubuque District Update Summer Camp: While we had some weather challenges, we had another great year of attendance at Camp C.S. Klaus. Troops from several spots in the midwest Exploring & Marketing 10 enjoyed a week at camp. However, one of the biggest reasons for the camp’s 11 success is that our council Troops support it year after year. Trading Post None of these things would be possible without the commitment and hard work 12 In Gratitude by our volunteer leadership. Whether it be someone who was a leader 50 years New Eagle Scouts ago or today, everyone who has volunteered for in NE Iowa has played a part in providing the best character education program available.

Thank you!

6 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

The Northeast Iowa Council is proud to share the work of volunteer Steve Sheston from Troop 22 this month! Steve Sheston got started in Scouting six years ago with his grandsons. He currently serves as the Scoutmaster for Troop 22.

Steve is a go-getter and pours a positive “can do” attitude into his ef- forts. Scouters know it will be an enjoyable experience to work with Steve. Steve hardly ever misses a Roundtable and is involved in a number of different Scouting aspects. In addition to helping out the properties committee and the OA with various projects out at Camp Klaus, Steve also built the adirondack chairs that sit outside the Camp Administration Office and the famous 9 Square Game that gets set up on the parade grounds.

Steve is trained and has worked diligently on his ticket items, including safety issues and handicap ac- cessibility at Camp Klaus. Steve has also become very involved with the . He is a great supporter of the Camp Card program, keeping a few cards in his pocket at all times to sell. Steve helped plan and host our 2017 Fall and he is in his second year of hosting our Winter Klondike Derby.

On behalf of the Northeast Iowa Council, please help us say thank you to a very dedicated Scouter, Steve Sheston!
