FUNDING Highland Council Community Resilience Grants This fund is to support Covid-19 related community resilience efforts. The fund is open to all groups within a local area – both constituted and non-constituted and can apply up to £1,500 at any one time. This recognises that there are a number of new groups that have emerged to support Covid-19 related resilience efforts. The fund will be supporting early-stage ideas up to £25,000 and larger projects up to £90,000. Deadline: October 2023 Find out more here The Henry Smith Charity The Henry Smith Charity provides Strengthening Communities grants up to £60,000 to support the running costs of small community-based organisations working in the most deprived areas of the UK to help people to make positive changes in their lives. Deadline: Ongoing Find out more here Dunvegan Community Trust - Skye Charities Fund The trust's primary role is to distribute the community fund generated by the Ben Aketil Wind Farm. Any group based in the Isle of Skye that benefits Dunvegan residents can apply for a grant up to the value of £500, towards any project costs. Deadline: Ongoing Find out more here National Lottery Awards for All Scotland A quick way to apply for smaller amounts of funding between £300 and £10,000. Open to voluntary or community organisations, registered charities, constituted groups or clubs, not-for-profit company or Community Interest Company, schools and statutory bodies including community councils. A good application should do at least one of these three things: bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities improve the places and spaces that matter to communities help more people to reach their potential, by supporting them at the earliest possible stage. Find out more here HTSI Creating an Equal and Inclusive Volunteer Environment Wednesday 23 June, 13:30 – 14:30 The Volunteering Environment – How to make it work for your volunteer and for your organisation. Find out more here Third Sector Good Practice Making Changes To Your Charity There are some changes that need consent (permission) from OSCR before you can make them, some which you just need notify OSCR about and others that you as a charity can make without contacting OSCR. Find out more here Covid-19 Reopening of Community Facilities As we move to lower Covid-19 Protection Levels. SLCVO along with the HTSI and other rural partners held an online event to look at what community facilities and villages halls need to consider when opening. You can watch the event here and find more information from the SLCVO website here. Covid-19 Back to Operations Check for Groups If your group has ceased operations due to Covid-19 restrictions you will be thinking about when you can start services and activities again. What these will look like and how you can carry on running your group. SLCVO can help you work through your questions and develop plans to get your organisation up and running again. To book an appointment visit https://calendly.com/slcvo Find out more about our service review here Third Sector Profile for Skye, Lochalsh and Wester Ross To improve the understanding of the third sector in Skye, Lochalsh and Wester Ross, SLCVO have developed a database to record third sector organisations in the area. Data has been collated from OSCR, Companies House and SLCVO’s members database produce a profile of third sector groups in the area. This profile and supporting data will be used to: Identify organisations to participate in community planning and co- production processes Develop profiles of the Third Sector in Skye, Lochalsh and Wester Ross Target TSI support services to where they are most needed. You can download a copy of the profile here . The Local Third Sector The third sector in Skye and Raasay play a vital role in supporting some of the most rural and remote communities in Scotland. In March 2021 we recorded 182 third sector organisations operating across the area. This section highlights the work of local groups. Skye and Raasay Investment Plan SLCVO are helping the Highland Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise with their community consultation on the Skye and Raasay Investment Plan. Our role is to bring together groups who work with people who may not be able to engage with main public consultation and ensure their voice is part of the decision making process. To find out more about the plan visit the Highland Council website here Third Sector Spotlight: Viewfield Garden Collective Viewfield Garden Collective provides and promotes therapeutic gardening for vulnerable and disadvantaged adults in Skye and Lochalsh. They use horticulture, creative arts and the environment as a means to support and develop their volunteers. Established in 2006, their large kitchen garden is situated in the grounds of Viewfield House in Portree, Isle of Skye. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ik=4d3b100da9&view=pt&search=all&permthid=thread-f%3A1702098496484282782%7Cmsg-f%3A170209849… 4/5 10/06/2021 Gmail - Skye and Raasay Third Sector Newsletter The garden has three cultivated terraces producing fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, as well as two poly-tunnels and an outdoor seating area. They offer a variety of educational and training opportunities including the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society Grow and Learn Awards that focus on individualised learning for all. Volunteers can participate in a range of gardening activities such as flower and vegetable growing, bee-keeping, propagating seeds, soil management, composting, dry-stone walling and willow weaving. They also arrange trips to other garden projects, and organise regular workshops and open days.
