Upon completion of boot camp at Marine Corps Depot San Diego, he moved to Fort Leonardwood, Mo., to complete his Military Occupational School. Josh graduated top of his class and received a meritorious promotion to lance corporal. On his first tour of duty in Afghanistan, his vehicle struck a two-hundred-pound improvised explosive device, which resulted in the amputations of both his legs below the knees. Josh is an active voice in his community and speaks frequently about his own comeback story, as well as the mission of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. The members of the Strolling Strings and Junior Strolling Strings are all members of their school orchestra programs who have committed to memorizing a 20-piece, 45-minute program of light classical and popular music. The groups of string players on violin, viola, cello, and string bass usually perform for an audience seated at tables for a dinner or banquet.
