En definitiva sense cap element que pogués despitar el públic d'unes cançons funestes però esperançadores. Polly Jean Harvey ha pujat a l'escenari com una membre més de la banda, amb el saxo a la boca i caminant entre la resta d'instruments de vent i percussió. Chain of keys, del seu nou disc The Hope Six Demolition Project, oha obert la llauna, com si en comptes de ser una de les artistes més influents del rock alternatiu fos una peça més de l'engranatge, en aquest cas d'una espècie de marching band de Nova Orleans. A partir de llavors nou disc s'ha anat desgranant sense masses concessions a antigues perles dels més de vint anys de trajectòria. The Ministry of Defence, The community of hope, A line in the sand i The Orange Monkey van succeir-se de manera calmada amb el tarannà blues que tenyeix les últimes referències de la de Dorset.

A LIFE ACCORDING TO PJ HARVEY. © Ilkka Levä 2009 Abstract for the Violence and Network Society School Shootings and Social Violence in Contemporary Public Life Conference Nov. 6-7th, 2009, Helsinki In the songs of English born singer-songwriter PJ Harvey (born Polly Jean Harvey 9 October 1969) a critical distance is constructed in a variety of ways: demanding a lover to “ask her name” instead of just making love (Oh My Lover), begging him to “lick her legs” and telling him that she will make him “lick her injuries” (Rid of Me), calling him “weak” and wanting to “stroke it” and “rub it better 'till it bleeds” (Rub ‘til It Bleeds), telling him her name as “F U C K” and being “twenty inches long” (50ft Queenie), call upon him to give her back “her memory” (Yuri-G), making suicide by drowning herself to a sea (Water), asking “Tarzan I'm pleading stop your fucking screaming” (Me-Jane), wanting to get “man-sized” (Man-Size), saying that the dress he bought to her is “filthy tight and filthy” (Dress) and that she will “fruit flower” herself “inside out” because she is “happy and bleeding for” him (Happy and Bleeding). These quotations used here are valuable information for the imagination because they confirm something that the common sense masculine imagination already knew: that a woman is a bitch judged by her ways of acting in these songs. And yet these words do something else than reassure us. They have some disturbing quality.
