Medler INTRODUCTION HIS bulletin attempts to present as accurate and complete a T guide to the leafhoppers of Minnesota as possible within the limits of the material available for study. It is realized that cer- tain groups could not be treated completely because of the lack of available material. Nevertheless, it is hoped that in its present form this treatise will serve as a convenient and useful manual for the systematic and economic worker concerned with the forms of the upper Mississippi Valley. In all cases a reference to the original description of the species and genus is given. Keys are included for the separation of species, genera, and supergeneric groups. In addition to the keys a brief diagnostic description of the important characters of each species is given. Extended descriptions or long lists of references have been omitted since citations to this literature are available from other sources if ac- tually needed (Van Duzee, 1917).

Brown Title of Study: Biodiversity of Bariditae (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Conoderinae) in Mississippi Pages in Study: 262 Candidate for Degree of Master of Science A survey of Bariditae in Mississippi resulted in records of 75 species in 32 genera and included two undescribed species and 36 new state records. An additional two species were recognized as possibly occurring in Mississippi as well. Diagnoses for all of the genera and species in the state are provided and keys to the genera as well as all of the species were made. Species were found in every county within Mississippi and are representative of the Bariditae fauna of the southeastern United States. Open, prairie-like habitats and aquatic wetland habitats were the habitats with the highest biodiversity of Bariditae in the state. Species of Baris, Geraeus, Linogeraeus, and Odontocorynus, were found in the highest numbers and Linogeraeus and Sibariops were found to be the most speciose genera in the state.

Twenty-three species documented from the parkway are first records for the state. Of the nine capture methods used during the survey, Malaise traps were the most successful. Periods of adult activity, based on dates of capture, are given for each species. Relative abundance is noted for each species based on the number of captures. Sixteen species adventive to North America are documented from the parkway, including three species documented for the first time in the state. Range extensions are documented for two species. M., 1953, published by The Ohio State University and The Ohio Academy of Science). It is time, therefore, for another general index, dealing with issues appearing since 1950. This is that index. Unlike the first index, there is no separate listing of full references by author; rather, this is simply a combining of all the entries from all the yearly indexes from 1951 through 1972. Basically these original entries remain unchanged here, though mistakes found in a few were corrected, and some have been slightly reworded in order to fit better into this multiple listing. Entries relating to book reviews occur only for the years of 1963 through 1970, because book reviews were not included in the earlier indexes. It should also be noted that, though a few of these books represent merely a reprinting of older, out-of-date books, these books are not so identified in the entries in this index. Introduction The Pan-American genus Gypona Germar, 1821 (Cicadellidae: Iassinae: Gyponini) includes about 200 described species (DeLong 1980). PRATT, MIN B. RAYAMAJHI AND TED D. CENTER USDA-ARS, Invasive Plant Research Laboratory, 3205 College Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33314 ABSTRACT Melaleuca quinquenervia (Cav.) S. T. Blake, the broad-leaved paperbark tree, has invaded ca. 202,000 ha in Florida, including portions of the Everglades National Park. We performed prerelease surveys in south Florida to determine if native or accidentally introduced arthro- pods exploit this invasive plant species and assess the potential for higher trophic levels to interfere with the establishment and success of future biological control agents. Herein we quantify the abundance of arthropods present on the above-ground portions of saplings and small M. quinquenervia trees at four sites. Only eight of the 328 arthropods collected were observed feeding on M. quinquenervia. Among the arthropods collected in the plants adven- tive range, 19 species are agricultural or horticultural pests. The high percentage of rare species (72.0%), presumed to be transient or merely resting on the foliage, and the paucity of species observed feeding on the weed, suggests that future biological control agents will face little if any competition from pre-existing plant-feeding arthropods. Blake ha invadido ca. 202,000 ha en la Florida, inclu- yendo unas porciones del Parque Nacional de los Everglades. Nosotros realizamos sondeos preliminares en el sur de la Florida para determinar si los artópodos nativos o accidental- mente introducidos explotan esta especie de planta invasora y evaluar el potencial de los ni- veles tróficos superiores para interferir con el establecimento y éxito de futuros agentes de control biológico.
