It’s part of WA’s $5.5 billion overarching State plan, focused on building infrastructure, economic, health and social outcomes. The Great Southern Recovery Plan will deliver a pipeline of jobs in sectors including construction, manufacturing, tourism and hospitality, renewable energy, education and training, agriculture, conservation and mining. WA’s recovery is a joint effort, it’s about Government working with industry together. We managed the pandemic together as a community. Together, we will recover. Investing in our Schools and Rebuilding our TAFE Sector • $6.3 million for a new Performing Arts centre at Albany Senior High School • $1.1 million for refurbishments at North Albany Senior High School including the visual arts area and specialist subject classrooms • $17 million to South Regional TAFE’s Albany campus for new trade workshops, delivering training in the automotive, engineering and construction industries • $25 million for free TAFE short courses to upskill thousands of West Australians, with a variety of free courses available at South Regional TAFE’s Albany, Denmark, Katanning and Mount Barker campuses • $32 million to expand the Lower Fees, Local Skills program and significantly reduce TAFE fees across 39 high priority courses • $4.8 million for the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Re-engagement Incentive that provides employers with a one-off payment of $6,000 for hiring an apprentice and $3,000 for hiring -

A total of 247 taxa were recbrded: ll0 in flowing waters, 170 in standing walers and 33 common to bolh habitats. lncreased sampling intensity in February 1991 revealed a diverse microinvertebrate fauna of 47 ta\a of Protozoa and Rotifera. The macroinvertebrate fauna was similar to that reDorted previouslv from aouatic eco\vstems in southwestern Austratia. fh irty-si^ species of m icroinvertebrates 1) Protozoi, 2 I Rotifdra, 10 Chdocera and 3 Copepodal were new records for southwestern Australia and, in many cdses, Austra[a. [email protected] Westralunio carteri Iredale 1934 is the only hyriid in southwestern Australia. The species was listed as ‘Vulnerable’ by the IUCN, due to population decline from dryland salinity, although the listing was recently changed to ‘Least Concern’. The Department of Environment and Conservation lists the species as ‘Priority 4’, yet it lacks special protection under federal or state legislation. Accuracy in species accounts is an important driver in determining conservation status of threatened species. In this regard, discrepancies in locality names and vagary in museum records necessitated the eastern distributional bounds of W. carteri to be clarified. Here we present an updated account of the species’ distribution and describe two previously unknown populations of W. carteri in the Moates Lake catchment and Waychinicup River, resulting in an eastern range extension of 96–118 km from the Kent River, formerly the easternmost river where W. carteri was known. For mussel identification, samples (n = 31) were collected and transported live to the laboratory for examination and internal shell morphology confirmed that the species was W. -

The Importance of Western Australia's Waterways There are 208 major waterways in Western Australia with a combined length of more than 25000 km. Forty-eight have been identified as 'wild rivers' due to their near pristine condition. Waterways and their fringing vegetation have important ecological, economic and cultural values. They provide habitat for birds, frogs, reptiles, native fish and macroinvertebrates and form important wildlife corridors between patches of remnant bush. Estuaries, where river and ocean waters mix, connect the land to the sea and have their own unique array of aquatic and terrestrial flora and fauna. Waterways, and water, have important spiritual and cultural significance for Aboriginal people. Many waterbodies such as rivers, soaks, springs, rock holes and billabongs have Aboriginal sites associated with them. Waterways became a focal point for explorers and settlers with many of the State’s towns located near them. Waterways supply us with food and drinking water, irrigation for agriculture and water for aquaculture and horticulture. Many are internationally recognised and protected for their ecological values, such as breeding grounds and migration stopovers for birds. WA has several Ramsar sites including lakes Gore and Warden on the south coast, the Ord River floodplain in the Kimberley and the Peel Harvey Estuarine system, which is the largest Ramsar site in the south west of WA. Some waterways are protected within national parks for their ecosystem values and beauty. -

PRIORITY ECOLOGICAL COMMUNITIES FOR WESTERN AUSTRALIA VERSION 21 Species and Communities Branch, Department of Parks and Wildlife 4 May 2014 Possible threatened ecological communities that do not meet survey criteria or that are not adequately defined are added to the priority ecological community list under priorities 1, 2 and 3. These three categories are ranked in order of priority for survey and/or definition of the community, and evaluation of conservation status, so that consideration can be given to their declaration as threatened ecological communities. Ecological communities that are adequately known, and are rare but not threatened or meet criteria for near threatened, or that have been recently removed from the threatened list, are placed in priority 4. These ecological communities require regular monitoring.
