• Conduct and provide support to sovereignty operations • Support to surveillance and sovereignty patrols • Support to CAF training • Report suspicious and unusual activities

CANDIAN RANGERS ARE CAF MEMBERS, but they are NOT SOLDIERS And have NO LAW ENFORCEMENT POWERS/MANDATES 6 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group Role of Canadian Rangers (1 CRPG)

• 1 CRPG is a unit with two distinct roles/missions:

• To provides lightly-equipped and self-sufficient mobile forces in support of (CAF) operations in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and northern BC; and

• To deliver a successful and challenging Junior Canadian Ranger (JCR) program throughout the North.

• Memorandum of Understanding • A written & approved by both responsible agencies • Non-contractual, non-legally binding • Internal or external to the Department of National Defence • MOUs are to be carried out in good faith.

Examples:

• RCMP for use of real property in the north by the Department of National Defence • RCMP for Department of National Defence assistance for vessel escort missions • Department of Fisheries and Oceans pertaining to surface ship patrols and aerial fisheries surveillance

• Service Level Agreement • Formal agreement between two or more that articulates the terms and conditions of a particular service relationship. • Articulates the expectations of the parties to the agreement. • Provides a mechanism for governance and issue resolution. • Acts as a scorecard against which to examine performance and results.

Examples:

• 2 Canadian Air Division and Army Individual Training Authority for delivery of convention munitions disposal training.

• Provision of Service • Request by non-defence agencies • May be received at any level within the Department of National Defence • May seek to use any component of National Defence • May be authorized where the provision of service is consistent with government policy
