    0l F7 Much has already been written on Jawaharlal Nehru, the charismatic leader and builder of modem India. Naturally, in his birth centenary year there should be such a deep interest in studying and analysing the various facets of Nehru's life, work and seminal thought. This is, however, a specialised study on Nehru's vision of Africa, an exploited part of the world that was so close to the heart of this humanist and champion of freedom and peace. It reveals how even as a young man, the tragic period of slavery and brutal sup pression in Africa moved him so intensely that he started telling the international community of its "special responsibility" towards the peoples of Africa. After India's independence, his contribu tion to the process of decolonisation, especially in regard to Kenya, Algeria and Portuguese territories makes a fascinating reading. His voice on the problems of hapless Congo and the tripartite aggression on Egypt after the nationalisation of the Suez Canal was loud and clear. It was a voice of sanity and morality. His words had the breadth of his vision. Nehru had no doubt in his mind that the obnoxious policy of apartheid was an affront to human dignity. His advice to Indian settlers in Africa that they should identify themselves with the urges and aspirations of the in digenous population is considered unique, though controversial. Nehru viewed that the independence of African countries could only be safeguarded through economic strength. He passionately advocated Indo-African economic and techni cal cooperation which has today become a model of South-South cooperation.

Rai, Sonepat – 131029, Haryana (India) Dr. Prabhakar Machwe (1917-1991) Prolific writer, linguist and an authority on Indian literature, Dr. Prabhakar Machwe was born on 26 December 1917 at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. He graduated from Vikram University, Ujjain and obtained Masters in Philosophy, 1937, and English Literature, 1945, Agra University; Sahitya Ratna and Ph.D, Agra University, 1957. Dr. Machwe started his career as a lecturer in Madhav College, Ujjain, 1938-48. He worked as Literary Producer, All India Radio, Nagpur, Allahabad and New Delhi, 1948-54. He was closely associated with Sahitya Akademi from its inception in 1954 and served as Assistant Secretary, 1954-70, and Secretary, 1970-75. Dr. Machwe was Visiting Professor in Indian Studies Departments at the University of Wisconsin and the University of California on a Fulbright and Rockefeller grant (1959-1961); and later Officer on Special Duty (Language) in Union Public Service Commission, 1964-66. After retiring from Sahitya Akademi in 1975, Dr. Machwe was a visiting fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Simla, 1976-77, and Director of Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, Calcutta, 1979-85. He spent the last years of his life in Indore as Chief Editor of a Hindi daily, Choutha Sansar, 1988-91. Dr. Prabhakar Machwe travelled widely for lecture tours to Germany, Russia, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Japan and Thailand. He organised national and international seminars on the occasion of the birth centenaries of Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, and Sri Aurobindo between 1961 and 1972.

The celebrated filmmaker, who was born in Calcutta, India, to a Bengali family, was best known for his invaluable contributions to cinema, beginning with this directorial debut in 1955 with Pather Panchali. The film earned the Best Human Document award and was nominated for the prestigious Palme d'Or at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival and was widely honored and recognized at several international film festivals. By the time he passed in April 1992, Ray was regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in the world. He was honored globally with India's highest cinema award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, the Commander of National Order of the Legion of Honour in France and received an honorary award at the 64th Academy Awards. PHDCCI signed MoU with Indian Yoga Association A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and Indian Yoga Association (IYA). The purpose of this memorandum is to promote yoga, health and spiritual tourism in Krishna Circuit in Uttar Pradesh.The MoU was signed between D.K. Aggarwal (Vice president of PHDCCI) and Kamlesh Barwal (Secretary General of IYA). 2. Andhra Pradesh’s new project ‘Bhu Seva’ Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishnamurthy started Andhra Pradesh government’s ‘Bhu Seva’ (land hub) project. This project aims at offering integrated services related with land. CH Vijayamohan is the Mission Director of Bhu Seva Mission. According to this project, each land parcel will be given a Bhudhar Number (an 11 digit unique number). A pilot project of this scheme was launched in Jaggaiah Peta Mandal and Vuyyur Nagar Panchayat of Krishna district. 3. Himachal Pradesh CM launched water supply scheme in Mandi Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated the Kanda Pattan-Sarkaghat Water Supply Scheme at Cholthara in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. The Kanda Pattan-Sarkaghat water supply scheme has been developed at a cost of Rs 39.65 crore. This scheme will benefit more than 31,000 people of that area. 4. GOBAR-DHAN Scheme launched by Swachh Bharat Mission GOBAR (Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources) - DHAN scheme has been launched by Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) Auditorium, Karnal, Haryana.

Chittaranjan locomotive works of Indian Railways creates world record of making 431 locomotives for FY 20 Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), the manufacturing unit of Indian Railways based in Asansol, West Bengal (WB), has set the Limca Book of Records for producing record 431 locomotives in the financial year 2019-2020 (FY20) in 292 working days. • It is 2.15 times its installed capacity of 200 locomotives per year. • This was achieved despite novel coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions that creating disruptions during the current financial year (FY20). Highlights: • The unit has surpassed its own previous year (2018-2019) record when it produced 402 locomotives in 297 working days. • CLW’s Locomotive production has increased 75% over the last 6 years period from 250 in 2014-15 to 431 in 2019-20 in line to support 100% Electrification and ‘Make in India’ initiative of the central government.
