Mark Fell Good Afternoon….. I’d forgotten the hollow feeling a defeat brings until Tuesday night, it doesn't matter who we’re playing, we’ve set our standards high and I was really disappointed with our application in the 2nd half. We proba- bly gave Fylde a real scare, but the long and short of it is we’re not in the draw for the semi-final…. But we move on, hopefully we learn and we right some of the wrong in our performance from Tuesday night today, it still left me with a sleepless night. What Fylde did allow us to do was see how a football club can progress quickly, have infrastructure can be developed. I know Fayyaz was keen to look at how they had developed their stadium as we look at the medium and long term future of the club. We know that success on the pitch will mean that we have to secure investment in Victoria Park, I think the site has great potential and we are looking at projects to cover at least one additional side to the ground with terracing for supporters. The Chairman will be resurrecting his column next weekend to give his view on progress. We have three important games left in 2013, today we have to ensure we do a professional job, both Chadderton and Northwich Flixton Villa are recent reminders that if we are not on our game today we could drop points. That leaves us with Formby here next weekend and a tough Boxing Day visit to Rakesmoor Lane to face Holker. Formby are the best team in this league bar us in my opinion, they have significant games in hand and will be in the mix come April, but if we ap- ply ourselves as we did last weekend against 1874 it would be a huge step towards promotion. Holker on Boxing Day will also be very hard, they are much improved this season and although its like a home game for me as I’m a Barrow lad, for our boys it’s a long trip that we need to prepare for correctly, Christmas is therefore only a half day event for the lads this year, they’re lucky I’ve not got them in for training on the 25th. Player wise we’re pretty settled at the moment, Matty O’Neill has brought experience and quality with him from Nantwich and he will help bring on some of the younger players who are doing a good job at giving us different options from the bench. I’m getting a lot of enquiries from players about getting onboard, that’s a by-product of success, people are taking note of our progress and many want to be involved. As I’ve often said, bringing players in now is fine, but they have to be of the standard to take us up not this division, but the one above. The lads are heading out on their Christmas party tonight, so anyone planning on going to Leeds tonight is warned otherwise. I’m sure you will all join them in the bar after the game for a drink. Enjoy the game Mark Mark receives his November manager of the month award from Frank Casson NFirst Division P W D L F A GD Pts Nel- 1 10 6 1 3 26 18 3 1 1 15 11 3 0 2 11 7 +8 19 son Han ley 2 8 5 3 0 17 7 2 2 0 7 3 3 1 0 10 4 +10 18 Tow n 187 4 3 Nort 9 5 3 1 16 11 2 1 1 5 5 3 2 0 11 6 +5 18 hwic h Ath erto n 4 8 5 2 1 21 14 4 1 0 13 7 1 1 1 8 7 +7 17 Col- lieri es 5 2 2 0 5 2 2 1 1 9 7 +5 15 6 2 1 2 9 9 2 1 1 9 5 +4 14 7 2 0 1 5 4 2 2 1 11 11 +1 14 8 2 2 0 11 5 1 1 2 8 9 +5 12 9 3 0 2 14 11 1 0 2 3 6 0 12 10 1 2 1 4 6 2 0 1 6 4 0 11 11 2 2 0 11 7 0 2 2 8 10 +2 10 12 2 0 3 10 12 1 1 2 6 7 -3 10 13 2 1 2 11 7 0 1 2 1 4 +1 8 14 1 1 2 6 7 1 1 2 8 11 -4 8 15 2 1 2 6 8 0 0 3 3 7 -6 7 16 0 0 2 2 5 1 3 0 7 6 -2 6 17 0 1 2 0 6 1 1 2 7 4 -3 5 18 1 1 3 10 17 0 0 3 2 14 -19 4 19 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 6 4 15 -11 1 Nel- 1 10 6 1 3 26 18 3 1 1 15 11 3 0 2 11 7 +8 19 son Han ley 2 8 5 3 0 17 7 2 2 0 7 3 3 1 0 10 4 +10 18 Tow n 187 4 3 Nort 9 5 3 1 16 11 2 1 1 5 5 3 2 0 11 6 +5 18 hwic h Ath erto n 4 8 5 2 1 21 14 4 1 0 13 7 1 1 1 8 7 +7 17 Col- lieri es 5 2 2 0 5 2 2 1 1 9 7 +5 15 6 2 1 2 9 9 2 1 1 9 5 +4 14 7 2 0 1 5 4 2 2 1 11 11 +1 14 8 2 2 0 11 5 1 1 2 8 9 +5 12 9 3 0 2 14 11 1 0 2 3 6 0 12 10 1 2 1 4 6 2 0 1 6 4 0 11 11 2 2 0 11 7 0 2 2 8 10 +2 10 12 2 0 3 10 12 1 1 2 6 7 -3 10 13 2 1 2 11 7 0 1 2 1 4 +1 8 14 1 1 2 6 7 1 1 2 8 11 -4 8 15 2 1 2 6 8 0 0 3 3 7 -6 7 16 0 0 2 2 5 1 3 0 7 6 -2 6 17 0 1 2 0 6 1 1 2 7 4 -3 5 18 1 1 3 10 17 0 0 3 2 14 -19 4 19 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 6 4 15 -11 1 In Town Today Daisy Hill FC CLUB HISTORY Situated one and a half miles south of Westhoughton town centre and around four miles from Bolton, the village of Daisy Hill first saw football in season 1894-95 although it is possible that football was being played in the area for some years prior to that date. WELCOME! We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our visitors this afternoon as PRESCOT CABLES AFC provide the opposition for this Pitching In Northern Premier League N/West Division Match. The Players, Team Management, Officials and supporters of our opponents are most welcome after making the long and tedious journey from Merseyside. The two Clubs met only once last season before proceedings were prematurely halted during March. On a boiling-hot early September Saturday, Dunston made their first ever visit to Volair Park in Prescot and fell behind to a third minute goal. The hosts had cashed in on a defensive slip and despite having plenty of time to rectify things, Dunston failed to put things right and were unable to breach a solid home rear guard. The 1 - 0 defeat provided a harsh lesson and a wake-up call as to how hard our new League would prove to be. The return game at the UTS Stadium fell victim to the atrocious weather conditions during February and was postponed on three occasions due to a frozen or waterlogged pitch. We also extend a warm welcome to our Match Officials this afternoon, Sam Parnaby who travels from Bishop Auckland and his Assistant Referees Daniel Van Hymus from Jarrow and Mark McMahon from Hebburn. Our FA Match Observer is Paul Newhouse who comes from Peterlee. Supporters old and new are very well appreciated and we hope you enjoy your visit to the UTS Stadium this afternoon. If you require any help or information about the Club and facilities, please do not hesitate to contact any Management Committee Member.

Printed and bound by 4Edge, Hockley, Essex www.4edge.co.uk ISBN: 978-1-905891-29-0 AUTHOR’S PREFACE My earliest memories of football include a visit to Seedhill in season 1946-47. I was just twelve years old at the time, and staying during school holidays with my grandparents at nearby Colne. Sadly, Nelson’s opponents – whose name eludes me but who played in white shirts and dark shorts – managed to frustrate the best efforts of Nelson’s fair-haired inside-forward, Arthur Woodcock, as I looked on from behind the goals, hoping for a successful strike from my much admired ‘Uncle Arthur’.

  • A Complete History of Southport Football Club
A COMPLETE HISTORY OF SOUTHPORT FOOTBALL CLUB Compiled By Rob Urwin Southport FC Programme Editor 1 IN THE BEGINNING It was Thursday 12 th November 1881 when Southport played its first Association Football match. Although association football had been played in the town's private schools in the late 1870’s the original Southport Football club began as a rugby team. The 'handling code” had been played competitively since 1872 in Southport and there were teams under the titles of Southport Olympic, Southport Wasps, Southport Hornets and The Grasshoppers. Southport Football Club, who had been in existence for some seasons, arranged rugby fixtures for 1881-82. After some heavy defeats, the last recorded being on 15 th October when Wavertree prevailed, the club switched to association football. On 12 th November, six of that team lined up when Southport played Bootle “second” in their first match under Association Rules. Bootle took the lead but Jackson shot “a capital goal to equalise” The Southport team was S Platt (Goal), B Pidduck, JG Howard (Backs) P.Edwards, F Jackson and TB Burnett(Captain) (Halves), JR Topliss and F Holden (Rights) W Platt (Centre) J Melross and J. Sykes (Lefts). The Southport Visiter commented “that the team will no doubt render a good account of themselves when they get over the difficulty of hands off and forget the rugby rules” The following week Southport lost by “one goal and one disputed goal to nil” at Burscough. Most of the club’s rugby players made the switch to the “round ball game” and Dalby, Irving and Morris were also lured over to soccer from Southport Hornets.
