Cammell Lairds Senior Cup 12.13 NEWS Bootle Football Club’s YOUTH The original Bootle F.C. were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road. Vodkat League First Division They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest Champions rivals. In 1889–90 Bootle became founder 2008-09 members of the Football Alliance, narrowly missing out on the football 1964-65, 1975-76, league to the blues. That season was the 1978-79 most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn 1965-66, 1967-68, Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football 1973-74 League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Liverpool County Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place FA Youth Cup Under 18’s - West Cheshire League - Manager Richie Boswarva final position, the club dropped out after one season (and 1977-78, 1984-85, 1990-91, were replaced by neighbours Liverpool) and seemingly 1999-00, 2005-06 Under 17’s - Liverpool Premier League - Manager Ste Miller disappeared due to financial problems. Lancashire Amateur Cup Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, 1970 Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially Liverpool County Under 16’s - Bootle & Litherland JFL - Manager Alex Grosart playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 when the club were Combination Champions elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at 1964-65, 1965-66, 1967-68, Under 15’s - Belvale Junior League - Manager Carl Dale the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and 1968-69, 1969-70, 1970-71, after several tough seasons withdrew and 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74 Under 14’s - Hightown JFL - Manager Lee Williams folded during the 1953–54 campaign. Lancashire County In 1953, the current club was formed as Combination Champions Langton and played in the local leagues. 1975-76, 1976-77 Under 12’s - Bootle & Litherland JFL - Manager Tony Smith After a very successful spell in the Cheshire County League Liverpool County Combination (which we Div Two Champions Under 10’s - Bootle & Litherland JFL - Manager Darren Carr won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it’s It’s 1978-79 better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later North West Counties League Under 9’s - Bootle & Litherland JFL - Manager David Miley joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 Div Two Runners-up and 1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the 1992-93 Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, Tennants Floodlit Trophy Under 8’s - Bootle & Litherland JFL - Manager Phil Dobson and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Winners Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged 1993-94 Under 7’s - Bootle & Litherland JFL - Manager Ste Miller to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly Vodkat League Challenge joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club Cup Runners-up spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, 2007-08 despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club Vodkat League dropped into the Liverpool County Reserve Division Winners Combination. In 2006 the club, with a new 2007-08, 2009-10 ground, were elected back into Division 2 Runners-up of the North West Counties League. In 2009 2008-09 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier *Liverpool Senior Cup Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first Winners season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a 1883, 1888, 1889 NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. *Football Alliance They equalled the 3rd place again in 2012. With the ground Runners-up grading and charter standard status established in 2011/12 1889-90 the club are looking to progress to the next level. 2 Bootle Football Club - Founder members of the Football Alliance 1889, The Football League Div2* Bucks on red alert against AC 1892 & The Northwest Neil Prince Tony Sullivan Counties Football League 1982 As it was Remembrance Sunday, both teams, officials and fans Awarded FA Charter observed a minute's silence as a mark of respect. Bootle then began to press and peppered the away goal for much of the Mr Frank Doran Jnr half. Just before the interval, the visitors appeared to have a valid penalty Mr Ben Roberts appeal turned down, much to the surprise and relief of the Bucks fans. The referee blew for half-time with the score level at 0-0. Would the Mr Frank Doran Snr Bucks rue their missed opportunities? The management duo of Grosart Mr Joe Benton MP and Groves’ half time team talk must have done the trick for the Bucks Mr Bobby Capstick, Mr took a deserved lead five minutes into the second half. Brandon Groves was on hand to gratefully accept the loose ball and he slammed the ball into the Mr Neil Prince AC net. 2-0. Mr James Olsen The visitors to their credit were still making the game a real contest and they almost pulled a goal back only for the Bucks shot-stopper, Fairchild Mr Liam Blakeman to make another brave save at a forward’s feet. Mr Paul McCowen The referee blew for full time and the Bucks, to be fair, ran out Mr Darren Carr comfortable winners 2-0 but they knew that they had had to work hard to achieve victory. • Peter Houseman Youth League Handbook 2019 – 2020
Peter Houseman Youth League Handbook 2019 – 2020 HISTORY OF THE LEAGUE Peter Houseman played for Chelsea in their "Golden Years" of the late '60's and early '70's. He moved to Oakley in 1967 and soon became involved in coaching local boys in the art of football. Obviously, as Peter was a 'star', word soon got around and Peter found his group getting larger and larger. From this he thought that these players should be formed into teams and set about encouraging other people to join in. Soon after, Peter and other members of the community formed The Basingstoke and District Boys Sunday League. They played their first league games on 9th February 1969 with six teams making up the league. The original six were Oakley, South Ham, Wellington, Buckskin, Rotherwick and Worting. Today the league has grown to over 50 clubs and well over 200 teams ranging from under 7 to under 16. Whilst it may not be the largest of leagues, it has always tried to remain as Peter intended in that it gives boys and girls a chance to play football in an organised fashion. In the early days Peter was aided by his wife Sally and the two of them would often be seen going to football matches with a car full of lads. Peter was elected Secretary of the League but later stepped down due to FA rules, and was inaugurated as the first league President. Sally volunteered to take up the post and served as Secretary for 3 seasons. She had to retire owing to the fact that their own family had arrived and demanded more of her time, but she kept in touch as Vice President.

  • Prescot E Programme
WELCOME! We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our visitors this afternoon as PRESCOT CABLES AFC provide the opposition for this Pitching In Northern Premier League N/West Division Match. The Players, Team Management, Officials and supporters of our opponents are most welcome after making the long and tedious journey from Merseyside. The two Clubs met only once last season before proceedings were prematurely halted during March. On a boiling-hot early September Saturday, Dunston made their first ever visit to Volair Park in Prescot and fell behind to a third minute goal. The hosts had cashed in on a defensive slip and despite having plenty of time to rectify things, Dunston failed to put things right and were unable to breach a solid home rear guard. The 1 - 0 defeat provided a harsh lesson and a wake-up call as to how hard our new League would prove to be. The return game at the UTS Stadium fell victim to the atrocious weather conditions during February and was postponed on three occasions due to a frozen or waterlogged pitch. We also extend a warm welcome to our Match Officials this afternoon, Sam Parnaby who travels from Bishop Auckland and his Assistant Referees Daniel Van Hymus from Jarrow and Mark McMahon from Hebburn. Our FA Match Observer is Paul Newhouse who comes from Peterlee. Supporters old and new are very well appreciated and we hope you enjoy your visit to the UTS Stadium this afternoon. If you require any help or information about the Club and facilities, please do not hesitate to contact any Management Committee Member.

Soccer History Issue 18 THE FRENCH MENACE; THE MIGRATION OF BRITISH PLAYERS TO FRANCE IN THE 1930S In the spring of 1932 the pages of the national and sporting press in England informed readers that domestic football was under threat from the ‘French Menace’. This comprised a well-publicised, but rather futile, attempt to attract two of Chelsea’s star players, Tommy Law and Hugh Gallacher, to play in the newly formed French professional league, effectively tearing up their English contracts in return for a reportedly large sum of money. The French Menace followed the ‘American Menace’ and the ‘Irish Menace’, occasions when British players had been induced to break their contracts and migrate to play in the American Soccer and Irish Free State Leagues. The potential migration of players was a menace because in each case, initially at least, there was a threat to the fundamental structures that enabled clubs to control their players: the retain-and-transfer system and (in England) the maximum wage. The British associations were passing through an isolationist phase and had left FIFA, hence agreements on player transfers only held on transactions between the Home Countries. A player moving to a club in another association could do so, in theory, without hindrance and without the payment of a transfer fee. In practice, as each ‘menace’ arose the FA was forced to reach agreements with local bodies to ensure that players could be held to their contract. Football in France was nominally amateur prior to 1932, but this concealed the advent of a form of professionalism that had gathered pace in the years after the First World War.
