The survey results are complemented with global data on collection, consumption and trade of recovered paper. The survey on recovered paper utilization was carried out with support from The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) who shared data with FAO for its member countries (Austria, Czechia, Finland and Norway, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom). In addition to the fifteen countries covered by CEPI, the following sixteen countries provided data via FAO’s questionnaire: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine and United States of America. Together, these 30 countries represent 90% of global consumption of recovered paper. Country tables are based on information submitted by correspondents worldwide, most of them pulp and paper associations. This survey presents only results for countries that submitted answers to the questionnaires. No attempt has been made to estimate figures in the absence of returned information. Data sources are indicated below each table and all correspondents are listed in Annex 2. To present a global overview, survey results were complemented with global data on recovered paper collection, consumption and trade from the FAOSTAT database. In addition, data on major trade flows were taken from the UN Comtrade Database. All sources are specified below the tables. For inquiries about these data, please contact the national correspondents or the FAO Forestry Department, Forestry Policy and Resources Division.
