Feathers Gin List Updated 13Th November Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca “Of all the Gin joints in all the world she had to walk into mine” Welcome, To the Wonderful World of Gin… Gin started life in the early 17th century in Holland, although claims have been made that it was produced prior to this in Italy. WC Fields would start the day with two double martinis, enjoyed either side of his breakfast. He drank about two quarts of gin a day. Every Gin brand has its own unique fragrance; most consumers have probably only tasted a small number of the gin brands available. In ours there are more than 60 different Gin brands, from 9 different countries; offering a wide spectrum of fragrances, using different botanicals and infusion methods in all shapes and sizes. Gin is distilled differently. Premium Gins are distilled 3 to 5 times to remove impurities; each brand has a unique formula that provides its special characteristics. The favourite drink of former President Gerald Ford is Gin and Tonic. Gin is the only alcohol liquor that was first developed as a medicine remedy before it became popular as a social drink. “Mother’s Ruin” a term that came from British soldiers taste for Gin when home on leave from the World War II, and the maternal state it induced in the women who shared their off-duty conviviality. William of Orange prohibited the importing of alcohol to England in the early 18th Century encouraging the production and consumption of English Gin. The excessive consumption that followed gave rise to the name Gin Craze. In Holland Gin was produced as a medicine and sold in chemist shops to treat stomach complaints, gout and gallstones. The nose of this flavoured gin is dominated by complex fruity and floral aromas. The taste is very smooth with distinctive flavours of juniper berries in the foreground surrounded by spicy flavours of liquorice, caraway and fennel. Spain: An elegant, seven-times distilled premium gin with fine, balanced flavours of citrus fruits and mint on the palate. Very fresh and lively with delicate juniper berry notes. England: Reinterpretation of gin from the mid19th Century from the oldest gin producers in England. On the palate, with distinct notes of juniper berries, coriander, with mild sweetness and floral tones. Very soft and gentle mouth feel. Germany: Classic dry gin with a bright, clean appearance and the delicate fragrance of juniper berries, coriander and citrus fruits, paired with a floral bouquet of elderflower and iris roots. Very fresh and elegant. Lebenstern dry Spain: Carefully distilled premium gin made true to family tradition with a distinctive, classic gin character. Notes of juniper berries and citrus fruits in the foreground. On the palate, dry, very elegant, with spicy anise. Germany: Complex old fashioned gin with floral and fruity notes. The palate is dominated fine juniper aroma and fresh citrus aromas. Limited edition small batch bottling. Old tom Spain: Dry gin produced in a 3-stage infusion process with delicate juniper character. Among the used botanicals are juniper, coriander, cucumber, cardamom, rose petals, lemon peel, tangerine peel, orange blossom and liquorice. The Ultimate G & T £10.00 With over 300 Gins to choose from, how do you choose the perfect Gin to complement the awesome 1724 Tonic. After much tasting, we believe that we have created the Ultimate G&T. Blackwood’s 2012 60% Vintage Dry The first Gin to use local botanical ingredients from Shetland, the beautiful islands situated at the far North of Scotland. Made in small batches, each bottle is individually numbered; the 60% volume reflects the Shetland’s 60 degree North location. Bracing, crisp and richly aromatic, Blackwood's Nordic Dry Gin’s unique flavour comes from its ingredients which include wild water mint, sea pink and meadowsweet flowers, coriander, and angelica root strain all picked on Shetland by local crofters as well as seven other botanicals including turmeric, citrus peel and orris root. 1724 We´re not going to bore you with the usual tonic water history class, we just want to go back to its true origins. So we won´t tell you about the Spanish conquistadors who discovered quinine in the Americas and used it to save the life of a dying countess in the eighteenth century, nor will we recount tales of the ancient Inca civilisation that had used quinine over 100 years earlier, or even that the trees from which the quinine was extracted were to be found on the legendary Inca Trail. All you need to know is that for this tonic they collect the quinine by hand at 1,724 metres above sea level, there where the story began, on the inca trail that stretches from Argentina almost all the way to Mexico. Ice Cubes From Blenheim Palace Natural Mineral Water, the spring is located just 1 mile from The Feathers. Tonic Water List (Not for medicinal purposes only!) From the futuristic Q to Quinetic Schweppes, we tell you our tonic first as it is our great belief that a great gin will be enhanced by a great tonic, and of course our staff will happily advise you. “1724” (ARG) 200ml £ 4.50 We´re not going to bore you with the usual tonic water history class, we just want to go back to its true origins. FeverTree Mediterranean 200ml £ 3.00 Although tonic is more usually associated with vodka or gin, this new flavour from Fever Tree makes a great base for a jelly. There's a touch of lemon in there, so mix it up with any citrus fruit juice and, if you fancy, a slug of booze, too. With the same dedication as the normal FeverTree, the hint of rosemary lends it to Mediterranean Gin’s such as the Spanish Gin Mare. FeverTree Naturally Light 200ml £ 3.00 Using natural fruit sugars, FeverTree have developed this delicious reduced calorie tonic water. It has the distinctive, clean, crisp taste of FeverTree with 45% fewer calories. FeverTree 200ml £ 3.00 By blending subtle botanical flavours with spring water and the highest quality quinine from the FeverTree, this is a delicious, natural tonic with a uniquely clean and refreshing taste and aroma. FeverTree Elderflower 200ml £ 3.00 By blending the essential oils from handpicked English elderflowers with the highest quality quinine from the fever trees of the eastern Congo, we have created a delicious variation on classic tonic water. The bright, fresh aromas and tastes are perfect to enhance the finest gins. Thus begins, the reason in being, welcome to ours, and enjoy seeing our Gin Book ‘Our’ gin book is ever evolving, as new, exceptional or the slightly peculiar gins (Read to the back to see our collection of 1960 Gins) find their way to our shelves, be it from your recommendation, a very persuasive sales rep or by sheer chance, we will readily look to stock the best of the best. We encourage you to take your time (as always) ‘in ours’, peruse the book at length and maybe see what you did not see the last time… Relax, you’re in the Feathers We start with a map of our world, GIN being the most important ‘in ours’ and the Countries which are represented so proudly by their botanical infusions. You’ll find ‘our’ book by way of the alphabet – it seemed as good a way as any to bring order to such a diverse and unique collection, and this will allow to pick by random letter or pointing at map, alternatively you could simply ask one of our expert staff for the guidance and advice. is for… ADLER BERLIN DRY (DEU) 42% £8.50 All the essences for the Berlin Adler are extracted by hand, and distilled in a vacuum sealed pot still, originally built in 1924. The gin is then stored in earthenware vessels before being specially created under quality designation ‘Berlin Dry Gin’ in apothecary bottles filled and sealed by hand. The end product is unusually mild, with the citrus pronounced and long lingering. ADNAMS FIRST RATE (GBR) 48% £10.50 Adnams from grain to glass, their Copper House gin is distilled from three locally-grown grains: barley, wheat and oats. Adnams Masterbrewer, Fergus Fitzgerald, makes a beer 'wash' from these grains which is fermented to around 6% abv without the addition of hops. Their head distiller, John McCarthy, then takes this beer and puts it through a 'beer stripping' column which removes all the alcohols to create a 'low wine' (around 80 - 85% abv). The 'low wines' are subsequently distilled in our hand-made copper pot still and purified further in rectification columns to create a clean, pure spirit. Only the very purest portion of the spirit is drawn off; the finest cut. The spirit is then returned to the copper pot still to be redistilled and infused with thirteen carefully chosen botanicals. John spent several months experimenting with different blends to create the signature First Rate flavour with integrated aromas of juniper berries, spice and fresh citrus.

  • Welcome to Berry Bar and Lounge
Welcome to Berry Bar and Lounge We would like to introduce you to two English traditions. Gin Gin is synonymous with London. In the early 1700’s more than 14 gallons of Gin per person were produced here. Skip to the 1920’s. During this period the modern cocktail hour originated. Gin was at the centre due to the popularity of the Martini. Present day London is once again awash with Gin. The launch of Beefeater 24 and other Premium London Gins have made it the drink to be seen with. Afternoon Tea Afternoon Tea is said to have originated in the 1840’s. Anna, The Duchess of Bedford, often became hungry in the mid afternoon and requested that her maid serve her tea with sandwiches and cakes. Anna began to invite friends to join her and a new social event was born that became increasingly popular with the middle and upper classes. Once introduced to London, Afternoon Tea breathed new life in the social scene and continues to do so to this day. Here at Berry Bar and Lounge we have taken these two British traditions and given them a contemporary makeover fitting for modern day London. Gin and Tonics The Gin and Tonics £7.95 Gordon’s Developed by Scotsman Alexander Gordon in 1769, it is triple distilled for a smoother finish. Gordon’s recipe has been kept secret for over 250 years Beefeater Founded in 1876 by pharmacist James Borrough. A fine example of a London Dry Gin Plymouth Made since 1793 in the Black Friars distillery.

  • The Great Chase
“At Chase Distillery we produce only the very finest spirits. We have been awarded world's best tasting vodka, we make the most complex and elegant gin in the world, and we are British. We grow our own raw materials and we distil and hand bottle all of our products from our family owned single estate farm in Herefordshire. Please do come and visit or email me directly at [email protected], I'd love to hear from you.” WILL’S STORY “I grew up on our family farm Tyrrells in Herefordshire. Wanting to be a farmer from a young age, to grow fresh produce enhanced with the magic earthy smell of planting potatoes into fresh soil in spring was to be my dream career.” Having struggled to make ends meet for many years in my twenties, trying to build a business doing what I loved; farming, I eventually found it best to focus on one thing. I chose potatoes, for good or for bad, trading them to supermarkets to make a living but little more. Life was difficult as a trader. The phone was ringing all day but with constant problems, mainly as a result of the supermarkets pressure to reduce price. I was one day struck with the eureka idea of turning our home-grown potatoes into crisps, aided by the original team on the farm (and some common sense) we established a brand onto the market and Tyrrells was born. As the brand quickly grew (along with my waistline!), I started to look for the next challenge.

21st Century Fox / Sky merger inquiry Submission to the Competition and Markets Authority on plurality 10/24/2017 Dr Justin Schlosberg, Birkbeck, University of London For and on behalf of 1 Contents I. Executive Summary p. 2 II. Problems with evidence used by 21CF p. 4 III. What we’ve learnt so far p. 7 IV. New research: key findings a. Reach and consumption via intermediaries p. 10 b. Wholesale news provision p. 13 c. Agenda leading p. 15 Acknowledgements and declaration This submission is based partly on original research commissioned by Avaaz and carried out by researchers based at Birkbeck College and City, University of London between June and September 2017. The research was led by Dr Justin Schlosberg (Birkbeck) and Dr Glenda Cooper (City),with the assistance of Thomas Chivers, Naomi Smith, Richard Dover and Hannah Sharland. We are in the process of preparing materials for peer-review publication but include here interim findings in view of their relevance to the merger inquiry. 2 I. Executive Summary In phase one of the merger inquiry we submitted new evidence to Ofcom which showed that the market reach, share and impact of major news brands controlled by the merging parties may be significantly greater than previously thought. In particular, our research showed a disproportionate presence of Sky News on intermediary platforms and strongly suggested that Global and Bauer radio stations still rely to some degree on the wholesale news service provided exclusively by Sky (via the Independent Radio News Network). We have now extended that research which reinforces these findings.
