For example, construction is increasingly supporting housebuilding on complex and challenging sites and with building apartments. At Gresham Mill (pictured left) four construction business units worked with Linden Homes to rejuvenate a former printworks, creating 70 apartments and 18 townhouses, including a water turbine to produce 10% of the homes’ electricity needs. At Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (pictured below) our Building division is delivering nearly 150 homes for housebuilding, as well as improvements to the cricket ground. A construction business spread across markets Construction benefits from the diversity of its markets. As the public sector market has become more difficult, the private sector has increased and regulated work has continued to come through. We are strong in the water sector, with recent projects including odour reduction at Beckton, Europe’s largest sewage treatment works (pictured below); and upgrades and extensions to Liverpool Wastewater Treatment Works (right).     COVID-19 Proxy Governance Update 2020 AGM mid-season review FROM EQUINITI 01 Looking back and planning ahead It is incredible to note that it has been over 12 weeks since the official announcement on 23 March of the UK Government’s Stay at Home Measures, and nearly seven months since the severity of the pandemic became apparent in China. Over the said period, PLC boards, company secretaries and investor relations officers have kept their corporate calendars going thanks to rapid adoption of modified regulatory guidelines and inventive modes of engagement with investors. With annual general meetings being an obvious highlight in the corporate calendar, we take stock of the progress made so far over the 2020 AGM season, as well as using what we learned to plan ahead.     PRESS RELEASE: 9th January 2019 Balfour Beatty Group tops the Contractor League Table for December Balfour Beatty took the top spot this month with three contract awards totalling £297 million. The award of the Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick, a project that was originally contracted to Carillion, contributed £267 million to their total. Kier Construction and John Graham Construction were in second and third place for December 2019, with a total contract award value of £149 million and £117 million respectively. This month the top three contractors have been awarded a combined 17 projects at a total value of £563 million. In November the top three were awarded a total of 15 projects valued at £781 billion. Balfour Beatty just pipped Galliford Try to the post for the top contractor in 2019 following a lucrative December. Balfour Beatty finished the year on a total of 47 projects with a combined value of £1.75 billion Galliford Try completed the year on 82 project awards at a total value of £1.7 billion. The latest edition of the Top 50 League Tables published by industry analysts Barbour ABI, highlights the number and value of construction contracts awarded during November. This month shows that the combined value of contracts awarded to the Top 50 was £2.0 billion with a total of 104 projects. Quarterly figures indicate that construction activity in the final quarter of 2019 was down compared to the previous quarter. October-December 2019 saw a total contract award value of £9.2 billion to the top 50. This is a decrease of 9.8% compared with July-September 2019.
