What is it? They all raced and won the 24 Hours of Daytona at the famed Daytona International Speedway. Here's your chance to drive the same track these motorsports legends drove, on their way to glory and racing immortality, by attending the Advanced Solo DE at Daytona International Speedway, held in conjunction with the Zone 12 PCA Club Races on October 27th-29th, 2017. The event is not limited to Porsche. Drivers must either be a PCA National Instructor, or, have achieved Advanced Solo status with their home region and have a minimum of four events where PCA Expanded Passing was in use (passing anywhere on the track, including the turns, with a point by). Experience with “expanded passing” with other HPDE organizations (e.g., Chin, Hooked on Driving, etc) will be acceptable. There are two registration options. The 2 day registration option (Sat/Sun) is $500.00 and the 3 day option is $550.00. A check of Daytona events, sponsored by other HPDE organizations and clubs makes this is a real bargain. Zone 12's event is anywhere from $100.00 to several hundred dollars lower than those organizations' events and theirs are 2 day events! You'll have the opportunity to attend the racers' “chalk talk” given by Cory Friedman of Autometrics on Thursday evening, as an initial exposure to driving Daytona (highly recommended, even if you've driven Daytona before). There may also be a “track walk” orientation that same evening (tbd). We recommend that cars be equipped with DOT “R” rated tires. At a minimum you must have tires rated at speeds of 149 or higher (V, W, Y, or Z). Tires must be new or nearly new. We recommend that your car have a 5 point harness and a roll cage/bar and we further recommend the use of a HANS device. Helmet must be at least a Snell SA 2010, or newer. Boxsters and other late model Porsche convertibles (996/997/991/986/987/981) may participate with tops up. Cars must have a technical inspection by an approved shop. We also recommend PCA-endorsed track insurance (available at www.pcahpdeins.locktonaffinity.com). Registration will be on Club Registration.net where additional event information is available including event options and fees. Be sure to search for Zone 12 events. Please be sure your driving credentials are updated in your Profile on CR.net. Your credentials WILL BE VERIFIED, prior to your registration being confirmed. There is not an event hotel. There are many lodging options in the Daytona/Daytona Beach area. Lodging arrangements are on your own. Co-drivers are permitted, assuming both drivers meet event credential requirements. Both drivers must separately register for the event on ClubRegistration. Please send an e mail to the Event Chair, stating your pairing intention. We must limit registration to the first 65 so don’t wait to register and miss the opportunity to drive the very same layout as many of Motorsports' legends. Autocross Here are the 2016 Oktoberfast Zone Challenge Autocross results Want to see how you stack up to the best Autocrossers in Florida on Saturday 10/28/2017 Come Autocross at the Kart track (orange campground area) inside Daytona International Speedway. This Autocross is run as part of the Oktoberfast activities and is considered a Zone Challenge event. We plan to have a special Oktoberfast t-shirt for those that register early. There will be a cap of 80 autocrossers. Classes for Porsches are based on PCR's for midsize regions. Non Porsche members welcome, and must use X class (Generic non Porsche class). All competitors who register before 10/15/ will receive a special T-shirt and the discounted price of $40,00. Register later and the price goes up to $50. and no t-shirt. Proposed schedule 9:30-10:45 final check in,tech and course walking 10:45-11:00 driver meeting 11:00 First car out Sometime around noon...we anticipate a hard break to allow those wanting to experience the track, an opportunity to take the track tour. This is a low speed parade lap(s), with a mandatory contribution to a charity to be determined. This will also give participants an opportunity to get a bite to eat. We anticipate finishing runs between 3:00-400 and hope to have trophies and trophy presentation soon thereafter. Most of the information in this article is found in a history of the Club’s early years written by Fred Wacker some years ago. We also wish to thank Burdie Martin for the loan of his copies of the very earliest issues of PISTON PATTER which are an invaluable source. In the Beginning…… 1948- 1954 The term “sports car” would have meant very little to a vast majority of Americans in the years right after World War II. Then, MG TC’s began arriving in the U.S. and a few people started to take notice. Among them was Fred Wacker, who purchased one of the first little British cars in early 1948. In May of that year, Fred and Bud Seaverns drove the MG to Indiana-polis for the 500. After the race they were caught in the usual traffic jam, and came across Bill Spear and Sam Bailey, a couple of New Yorkers, in a Bentley. A mutual interest in their respective cars led to introductions, and in due course Fred and Bud heard of the “Sports Car Club of America” for the first time. Ownership of a “sports car” was an SCCA membership requirement at that time. Since Fred qualified in that respect, Bill and Sam suggested he become a member of the Club. After joining, Fred discovered there was no Chicago Region.

    One more for the bucket list: Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance It was Sunday at 10:30 AM, and I had missed my chance to enter the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance before the line into the show field grew to what looked like thousands of people. This was just the tip of the iceberg, as thousands more already had gained entrance. It was my first Amelia Island Concours, but no, I don’t regret being late to the show. Early that morning, I had walked down to the parking garage on a tip that there would be a couple cars worth photographing on their way out to the field: the Porsche Museum’s 909 Bergspyder and hallowed flat-16-powered 917 PA. In the garage, it was easy to admire their curves, their history, and their cylinder count — 24 between the two of them. Behind the chain-link fence guarding the RM Auction cars, the two Porsches sat. Not another car back there could sway my attention. At 8 AM, they were tugged from their slumber by a golf cart and pulled to the show field. A few Porsches parked on my side of the fence were able to peel me away from the museum-kept racecars for a few moments. The first was the No. 67 BF Goodrich 1985 962, which was driven by Amelia Island honoree Jochen Mass at the 1985 24 Hours of Daytona, where he placed third overall. PCA member Bob Russo, the man who restored it, was standing by its side and spoke to me about the build and how it was finished just the week before.

This new racing venture is part of the Lexus’ global motorsports effort that will see the Japanese luxury brand competing on tracks in the United States beginning in 2016. The new race vehicle is based upon the production Lexus RC F high performance coupe that went on sale at the end of 2014. “A core mission of F Performance Racing was to strengthen the Lexus’ F brand by applying lessons gleaned from racing, while nurturing an engineering culture that transfers that knowledge to dynamic, high performance passenger car development. We are very excited about what this partnership and race effort can mean for the brand in the years to come,” said Jeff Bracken, group vice president and general manager, Lexus division. Veteran driver and road racing legend Scott Pruett will pilot the RCF GT3, bringing a wealth of experience to bear during the vehicle development phase. F Performance Racing will campaign a limited schedule in 2016. Event Story Lines. Youth Movement. Porsche Motorsport Expands Youth Driver Development Program. Porsche is expanding its successful and sustainable youth development program in international motorsport. In 2018, four Young Professionals will be sponsored on the international GT racing scene. Two Porsche Juniors will receive training to become a professional racing driver in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which features on the same event weekends as Formula 1. Norway’s Dennis Olsen and Australian Matt Campbell will be supported in the future as Porsche Young Professionals in international GT racing. The Porsche Young Professionals squad also includes Matteo Cairoli from Italy and Frenchman Mathieu Jaminet.
