EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RECRUITMENT PACK

ABOUT CLOD ENSEMBLE

Clod Ensemble occupies a unique place in the theatre landscape. Over their 25-year creative partnership, director Suzy Willson and composer Paul Clark have developed a highly original performance language with which they make visually stunning and aurally complex performances, ambitious in scale and concept.

Clod Ensemble works at the intersection of different forms and disciplines – at the point where they meet, transform and challenge each other to become something new.

We work with dancers, actors, musicians, medics, architects and orchestras. Our work is presented in , across the UK and internationally in theatres, dance houses, galleries and public spaces including Sadler’s Wells, , Southbank Centre, The Lowry, Wales Millennium Centre, Serralves Museum Porto and Public Theater New York.

Between 2015 – 2019, Clod Ensemble has undergone a transformative period of development, enabled in part by a 5 year £1m investment from Wellcome Trust’s Sustaining Excellence fund. In the coming years we will share the fruits of this work, presenting new productions as well as remounting shows in repertoire; a public engagement programme; artist development scheme and continued development of pioneering participation projects, including Performing Medicine and Living Room Music.

Clod Ensemble is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We are an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation. www.clodensemble.com

ABOUT PERFORMING MEDICINE

Performing Medicine is Clod Ensemble’s award-winning professional development initiative for health professionals and medical students. Our practical, hands-on workshops are delivered by leading artists who help health professionals to use their bodies and voices for effective communication; to become more aware of their own needs as well as those of the people around them; and to appreciate the stories and experiences of others.

Since 2001 we have worked with more than 18,000 health professionals and students and we have long-standing partnerships with NHS Trusts and Higher Education Institutions across the UK. Our three-year project at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust resulted in a new framework for staff development called Circle of Care to help health professionals think about, practice and demonstrate high quality compassionate care.

Performing Medicine is at an exciting stage in its development, with new interest in the programme and momentum around enhancing staff wellbeing and improving compassionate care. Over the coming year we want to maximise on these opportunities and scale up Performing Medicine, supporting many more health professionals and students in providing safe, person-centred and compassionate care to patients.

“Performing Medicine is a trail blazer in arts in health education. I have been impressed by the level of commitment and dedication they have shown in developing their innovative and widely respected programme of work across the UK.” Rt Hon. Lord Howarth of Newport CBE, Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Arts, Health and Wellbeing

“Performing Medicine offers vital opportunities to provide much needed support and the opportunity for growth and reflection to those who face these challenges every working day.” Iona Heath Former President of the Royal College of General Practitioners www.performingmedicine.com
